May 11, at Spring Arbor (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Host Spring Arbor eliminated the Yellow Jackets from the NCCAA Midwest Regional with a 3-0 decision thus ending Cedarville's season. The visitors had seven hits with Chad Hofstetter supplying two on a single and a double. The Jackets, who had won only 15 games combined over the past three seasons, finish the 2001 campaign with a 17-26 record. [GAME BOXSCORE]

May 10, Concordia (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Cedarville pounded Concordia, 19-6, in a losers' bracket contest at the NCCAA Midwest Regional. The Cardinals trimmed an 8-1 deficit to 8-6 before CU exploded for 11 runs in the top of the seventh inning. Six Yellow Jackets had at least two RBI's including Craig Sullivan, who was 4-for-5 with a triple and three runs scored. Justin McKee had two hits, Tim Sastic scored four times, and pinch hitter Justin Zenn was 2-for-2 with five RBI's in the seventh inning alone. Scott VanDerAa was the winning pitcher. [GAME BOXSCORE]

May 10, Indiana Wesleyan (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Indiana Wesleyan outslugged the Yellow Jackets, 11-9, in the first round of the NCCAA Midwest Regional at Spring Arbor. Cedarville opened up a 7-4 lead against IWU, but the Wildcats scored six runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Kurt Hopkins was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, Bryan Mangin had two hits and two RBI's, Tim Sastic drove in three runs while Micah Hutchins and Samuel Hutchins added two hits apiece. May 5, ASBURY
Cedarville closed out the regular season with a 7-2 and 10-5 doubleheader sweep over Asbury in non-conference action. Scott VanDerAa was the winning pitcher in the opener while Chad Hofstetter legged out an inside-the-park home run. He also doubled and knocked in four runs. Bryan Mangin and Kurt Hopkins added two hits each. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] After spotting the Eagles four runs in the top of the first inning of the second contest, the Jackets scored six in their half of the frame and went on to victory. Bryan Mangin had two hits, including a homer, and three RBI's while younger brother Eric tallied two hits. Justin McKee and Jason Williams provided two hits each to aid winning pitcher T.J. Couch. May 2, RIO GRANDE
Cedarville completed their American Mideast Conference schedule with an 11-1 and 5-1 doubleheader sweep of Rio Grande. The Yellow Jackets broke a 1-1 tie in the opener with a six-run fourth inning. Jason Williams had two hits and three RBI's while Chad Hofstetter and Tim Sastic added two hits with two RBI's each. Josh Smith was the winning pitcher and allowed an unearned run. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Sastic, Bryan Mangin, and Justin Zenn had two hits apiece in the second contest. Jacob Richardson allowed an unearned run while picking up the victory on the mound. May 1, at Mount St. Joseph
Mount St. Joseph hammered three home runs to beat Cedarville, 10-4, in a non-conference game. The Lions broke out to an 8-2 lead through five innings to take command. Samuel Hutchins had three of the Yellow Jackets' 13 hits. Justin McKee and Chad Hofstetter had two hits each. [GAME BOXSCORE]

April 28, at Saint Vincent
Saint Vincent whitewashed Cedarville twice, 10-0 and 3-0, in an American Mideast Conference twinbill. The Jackets managed only a bunt single from Tim Sastic in the opener which was halted after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] CU outhit the Bearcats 6-3 in the second contest but could not dent the plate. The Jackets had singles from six different players and stranded seven runners on base. April 27, at Geneva
Cedarville established season-highs for runs and hits in a 15-11 victory at Geneva in the second game of an American Mideast Confernence doubleheader. The Golden Tornadoes won the opener, 8-1, in which Craig Sullivan went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Yellow Jackets. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Sullivan kept up the pace by going 4-for-5 in the second contest with a double, a home run, and three RBI's as CU rapped out 21 hits. Bryan Mangin had four hits while Jason Williams, Tim Sastic, and Chad Hofstetter all had three hits apiece. Josh Smith was the winning pitcher and T.J. Couch notched his league-leading sixth save. April 26, TIFFIN
Tiffin came to Cedarville and swept an American Mideast Conference doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets by scores of 4-3 and 12-7. The Dragons broke a 2-2 tie in the opener with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Justin McKee had two hits with a double to pace the Jackets. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Tiffin bolted to a 9-0 lead in the nightcap to take control, but the Jackets did get as close as 10-7. McKee, Tim Sastic, and Craig Sullivan had two hits apiece. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 25, at Bluffton
Scott VanDerAa tossed a one-hit shutout and the Yellow Jackets split a non-conference doubleheader at Bluffton. Cedarville won the opener 2-0 as VanDerAa struck out five and walked two. Tim Sastic broke the scoreless game with an RBI single in the sixth inning while Justin Zenn's double added an insurance run in the seventh. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the second contest, Bluffton scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning to rally for a 5-4 win. Craig Sullivan was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI's and Eric Mangin added two hits. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 23, SHAWNEE STATE
Defending American Mideast Conference Tournament champion Shawnee State, ranked No. 19 in the NAIA, swept the Yellow Jackets, 2-1 and 7-1. Cedarville's offense struggled to produce nine hits on the day, but losing pitcher Josh Smith deserved a better outcome in the opener. He allowed two unearned runs on only five hits, but the Jackets committed four costly errors. Bryan Mangin had a pair of hits. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Shawnee State jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second game. Cedarville managed just five hits, two of which came off Mangin's bat, but the hosts left the bases loaded twice. April 19, URBANA
Cedarville surpassed last season's victory total with their 10th win in a 4-2 non-conference decision over Urbana. The two American Mideast Conference members split their league twinbill at Urbana on April 3. This time both teams managed only seven hits each and the Jackets scored all of their runs off of four Blue Knight errors. CU stole six bases led by Tim Sastic with two. Justin Zenn had a double, Scott VanDerAa pitched four scoreless innings for his second win of the year, and rookie T.J. Couch worked the ninth inning for his fifth save. [GAME BOXSCORE]

April 14, OHIO DOMINICAN
Ohio Dominican swept the Yellow Jackets, 10-4 and 6-1, in an American Mideast Conference twinbill. Cedarville got on the board first in the opener with three runs on three hits, but they managed only three hits the rest of the way. ODC turned around a 3-1 deficit with an eight-run fourth inning to take command. Tim Sastic had two hits for CU and Bryan Mangin drove in two runs with a double. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The two teams were tied 1-1 after one inning of the nightcap before the Panthers slowly pulled away for the win. There were only 12 hits total in the game, but six errors. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 7, POINT PARK
Point Park scored in only four innings during the day, but took a pair of American Mideast Conference games from host Cedarville by scores of 11-0 and 9-3. The Pioneers broke open a scoreless tie in the opener with a six-run fifth inning and then scored five times in the seventh. The Jackets were without a hit until Kurt Hopkins stroked a one-out double to left field in the seventh inning. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Point Park put five runs on the board in their first at bat in the second contest and added four more in the third inning. Bryan Mangin hammered a towering two-run homer to left an inning later for CU and Craig Sullivan added a solo shot in the sixth to complete the scoring. T.J. Couch shut out Point Park over the final four innings and allowed just one base hit. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 5, CAPITAL
Bryan Mangin was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate, but Capital overpowered Cedarville 12-7 in a non-conference game. The Crusaders scored four times in the first inning and the Yellow Jackets tied it with a four-run third inning. However, Capital put the game away with eight unanswered runs for a 12-4 advantage through 6 1/2 innings. CU totaled 15 hits with freshman lead-off hitter Justin McKee picking up two to go along with two runs scored. [GAME BOXSCORE]

April 4, WITTENBERG
Wittenberg never trailed in handing the Yellow Jackets a 5-1 loss in non-conference action. The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning before CU pushed across their only run in the third. Jon Oren doubled, advanced to third on a fly out, and scored when Kurt Hopkins beat out an infield single. Bryan Mangin was 2-for-4 at the plate. [GAME BOXSCORE]

April 3, at Urbana
Cedarville matched last year's win total of nine victories while splitting an American Mideast Conference doubleheader at Urbana. The Jackets won the opener 4-2 as winning pitcher Jacob Richardson improved to 3-2 and T.J. Couch picked up his fourth save. CU's seven hits were singles from separate players, but Justin McKee scored twice. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Urbana won the nightcap, 5-1, as the Jackets managed just three hits at the plate. March 31, at Malone
Malone rallied for a 7-6 victory in the first game of an American Mideast Conference twinbill over the Jackets and then sent CU home with a 15-0 decision in the nightcap. Cedarville led the opener 6-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning before the Pioneers came back. Kurt Hopkins went 3-for-4 at the plate with three doubles and three RBI to lead the offense. Tim Sastic had two hits and scored two runs. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the second game, CU only managed a first inning single from Hopkins. Malone exploded for nine runs in the third inning to blow it open. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 29, WALSH
Cedarville ended a 25-game American Mideast Conference losing streak by knocking off defending champion Walsh, 4-3, after the Cavaliers had blanked CU, 2-0, in the first game of a doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets had just four base runners and only one reached third base in the opener. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Entering the fifth inning of the nightcap, Cedarville had one hit and trailed 2-0, but the hosts rallied for three runs. Jon Oren doubled in two and Kurt Hopkins added a sacrifice fly. After the Cavs tied it in the sixth, CU plated the game winner on an RBI single from Justin McKee. Matt Schroeder, 3-0, was the winning pitcher and T.J. Couch worked the seventh for his third save. It was the Jackets' first AMC victory since beating Rio Grande in the final conference game of the 1999 season. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 27, at Mount Vernon Nazarene
Mount Vernon Nazarene swept the Yellow Jackets by identical 6-2 scores in an American Mideast Conference doubleheader played in temperatures that hovered in the mid-30's. The Cougars jumped out to a 6-0 lead after three innings in the opener. Samuel Hutchins and Kurt Hopkins delivered run-scoring singles in the fifth inning for CU. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the second game, the Jackets scored a run in the first inning, but MVNC plated five unanswered runs for a 5-1 advantage through four innings. Samuel Hutchins was 3-for-3 at the plate while Matt Schroeder had two hits including a double. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 23, HIRAM
The Yellow Jackets scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 7-6 win over Hiram in the second game of a doubleheader after losing 8-0 in the first contest of their 2001 home opener. Cedarville nearly had a perfect game thrown against them in the first game. Tim Sastic was the only baserunner for the hosts when he singled with one out in the seventh inning. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, Micah Hutchins came across with the game winner on a bases loaded walk. Matt Schroeder was the winning pitcher while T.J. Couch picked up the save. Jon Oren was 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 22, at Morehead State
NCAA Division I Morehead State brought Cedarville's five-game winning streak to a halt with a 13-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets. The Eagles held a 4-0 lead when CU scored their only run in the fourth inning. Chad Hofstetter singled with two outs and Kurt Hopkins followed with an RBI double. The hosts blew the game open with a five-run seventh inning. Hofstetter and Samuel Hutchins had two hits apiece for the Yellow Jackets. [GAME BOXSCORE]

March 19, at Toccoa Falls
Cedarville's winning streak increased to five straight as Matt Schroeder paced a balanced attack with two hits, two walks, two stolen bases, and three runs scored in a 7-1 victory at Toccoa Falls. Jason Williams tripled for the Jackets' only extra base hit of the game and starting pitcher Josh Smith worked the first eight innings to pick up the victory. CU, who managed just seven hits, took advantage of seven errors commited by the hosts. [GAME BOXSCORE]

March 17, at Johnson Bible
Matt Schroeder doubled and scored two runs in the opener, and was the winning pitcher in the nightcap to help Cedarville to a 10-7 and 2-0 doubleheader sweep at Johnson Bible to up their winning streak to four straight. Bryan Mangin had three hits including a home run in the first game which went nine innings. Samuel Hutchins doubled twice while Jon Oren and Ben Saturley added two hits apiece. Jacob Richardson was the winning pitcher in relief. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Jameson Adams and Justin Zenn recorded two hits each in the second game which was called after five innings due to cold weather. Second baseman Dave Terrill also started a triple play by catching a blooper behind second base, stepping on the bag for the second out, and throwing on to first to complete the rare defensive gem. March 3, at Asbury
Cedarville used a five-run third inning in each game to sweep a non-conference doubleheader at Asbury, 6-1 and 7-2. Tim Sastic and Craig Sullivan each had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense in the opener while Bryan Mangin and Kurt Hopkins added two hits apiece. Scott VanDerAa was the winning pitcher. The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with their bit third inning and coasted to the win. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, CU broke a 1-1 tie with another third-inning uprising to take command. Hopkins had two hits with three RBI, Sullivan had two hits and scored twice, and Samuel Hutchins added two hits with two RBI. Josh Smith pitched a complete game in picking up the victory. Feb. 23, at Transylvania
The Yellow Jackets opened the 2001 baseball season with a 4-3 victory in 11 innings at Transylvania, but the host Pioneers won the nightcap, 5-4. Jacob Richardson got the win in relief in the first game. The freshman righthander allowed just one hit over four innings with seven strikeouts. Jon Oren tripled home Tim Sastic with the winning run. Sastic was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs scored while Kurt Hopkins was 2-for-5 with a triple and a run batted in. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Cedarville led the second game 4-1 before Transylvania scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning in a contest that was halted due to darkness. Matt Schroeder singled, scored a run, and added an RBI. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
