Russ Toms became only the second player in Yellow Jacket golf history to be recognized as an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete.....rated fourth on the squad with an 85.2 average.....shot a season-low 82 in tournaments at Urbana and Mount Vernon Nazarene as well as the opening round of the American Mideast Conference Championship.....NCCAA and AMC Scholar-Athlete. 1999 -- Toms ranked third on the squad as a sophomore with an 83.7 average.....carded a career-best 75 at the Walsh Invitational which tied for fifth individually out of 59 golfers.....turned in a 79 at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational.....NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete. 1998 -- Toms averaged a team-low 81.1 strokes per 18 holes as a freshman.....joined the team in the third tournament of the season and promptly tied for fourth place individually with a 78 at the 12-team Heidelberg/Tiffin Classic.....shot a season-low 77 in his next outing and tied for fifth at the Walsh Invitational.....led the team in the Mid-Ohio Conference Championship with rounds of 82-80-82 for a 244 total. High School -- Toms earned four letters while playing golf at Marion High School.....played for a North Central Conference championship squad as a senior and team was NCC runner-up as a junior.....Grant County Junior Amateur champion in 1996.....graduated 15th out of a senior class of 350. Personal -- Dean's Honor List student as a Finance and Accounting double major.....born 10/4/78.....son of Mr. and Mrs. James Toms.....has two older sisters.
