2000-01 Game Recaps Feb. 17, at Rio Grande Julie Nourse finished her career third on Cedarville's all-time scoring list, but the Lady Jackets dropped a 73-66 decision at Rio Grande in their season finale. CU made only four field goals in the first half and trailed 31-15 at the break. They outscored the Redwomen 51-42 in the final period and got as close as six points. Nourse tallied 20 points and ended with 1,706 points for her career. Pattie Schryer scored 19 points and Molly Earley pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds. [STATS] Feb. 13, at Central State Julie Nourse tied her career-high with 29 points and became the Lady Jackets' third all-time leading scorer, but nationally-ranked Central State won their 15th straight game with an 83-79 decision over CU in American Mideast Conference action. Cedarville bounced back from a 41-33 halftime deficit against the Lady Marauders, ranked No. 21 in NAIA Division I, and grabbed their only lead of the second period, 53-52, with 10:35 left. CSU used a 12-2 run late in the contest for their largest advantage, 75-63, at the 3:30 mark. Nourse added 10 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season and her career scoring total stands at 1,686 points. Julie Stauffer tallied 15 points while Karyn Pierce added 10 points and 10 rebounds. [STATS] Feb. 10, at Tiffin The Lady Jackets dropped their third straight game with a 75-57 American Mideast Conference setback at Tiffin. The Dragons moved out to a comfortable 36-22 halftime lead by holding CU to 31 percent shooting in the first period and the Jackets failed to recover. Freshmen teammates Julie Stauffer and Molly Earley netted 12 points each lead the Jackets. [STATS] Feb. 8, SHAWNEE STATE Five-time defending American Mideast Conference champion Shawnee State, ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division II, rolled to a 90-66 victory over the Lady Jackets in their final home game. The Bears scored the first 11 points of the game en route to a 49-29 halftime lead and they never looked back. Julie Nourse scored 10 points with a game-high 13 rebounds and moved into fourth place on CU's all-time scoring list with 1,649 points. Julie Stauffer scored 19 points and Pattie Schryer added 11. [STATS] Feb. 6, URBANA A big run to finish the first half carried Urbana to a 62-56 American Mideast Conference victory at Cedarville which halted the Lady Jackets' three-game winning streak. Trailing 15-13 with 11:30 to play in the opening period, the Blue Knights embarked on a 25-6 spurt for a 38-21 halftime lead. CU needed only five minutes to close within seven and they shaved the margin to as little as 60-55 at the 1:30 mark before running out of time. Pattie Schryer scored 16 points for Cedarville while Julie Stauffer added 14. [STATS] Feb. 3, at Notre Dame College Senior center Julie Nourse recorded her second straight double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Jackets to their third consecutive win with a 77-52 victory at Notre Dame College of Ohio in an American Mideast Conference game. Cedarville raced to a 42-20 halftime lead, held the host Blue Falcons to just 27 percent shooting from the field for the game, and enjoyed a 57-33 rebounding edge. Julie Stauffer scored 11 points and Pattie Schryer chipped in 10 while Molly Earley hauled in 10 rebounds. [STATS] Jan. 30, at Wilberforce Julie Nourse posted a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead Cedarville to a 65-50 victory at Wilberforce in an American Mideast Conference game. CU held the host Bulldogs to just 17 percent shooting from the field during the first half in building a 31-14 lead at the intermission. The Lady Jackets increased their advantage to as much as 63-38 with four minutes left. Pattie Schryer was the only other Cedarville player to reach double figures with 10 points. [STATS] Jan. 27, at Point Park Julie Nourse scored 21 points and Julie Stauffer added 19 to lead Cedarville to a 67-53 win at Point Park in an American Mideast Conference game. The Lady Jackets held a 32-19 advantage at the intermission and quickly expanded the lead to over 20 points in the second period. Stauffer drained five three-point baskets to lead the perimeter attack and four separate players grabbed six rebounds each as CU produced a 43-26 edge on the boards. [STATS] Jan. 23, CENTRAL STATE Central State made their move in the second half and posted a 75-64 American Mideast Conference victory at Cedarville. The Lady Marauders extended a 28-25 halftime lead out to a 57-39 bulge with 8:30 to play. CU closed the gap to 66-60 with 2:17 left, but could get no closer. Julie Nourse registered 19 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Jackets. Pattie Schryer buried five treys and scored 17 points while Julie Stauffer added 16. [STATS] Jan. 20, at Seton Hill Seton Hill bounced back from a four-point halftime deficit to post a 73-65 victory over Cedarville in an American Mideast Conference game. The Lady Jackets held a 35-31 halftime lead, but made just 31 percent of their shots in the second period. The host Spirit made 13-of-15 free throws in the decisive second half and outrebounded CU, 42-31, for the game. Beth Bunchkowski scored a career-high 17 points to pace Cedarville while Pattie Schryer chipped in 10. [STATS] Jan. 18, MALONE Malone, ranked No. 15 in NAIA Division II, handed Cedarville a 76-58 setback in American Mideast Conference action. CU outscored the Pioneers from the field and outrebounded them 44-33, but the visitors picked up their seventh straight win thanks to a whopping 30-7 advantage at the free throw line. Malone led 31-25 at the break and took immediate command by opening the second half with a 10-2 spurt. Julie Nourse scored a game-high 17 points for the Lady Jackets and Pattie Schryer chipped in 12. [STATS] Jan. 16, at Urbana Julie Nourse scored as time expired on a perfect pass from Pattie Schryer to give Cedarville a 63-62 victory at Urbana in an American Mideast Conference game. The Blue Knights missed their final four free throws including two with eight seconds left. CU called timeout at midcourt with three seconds remaining to set up the winning shot which was a five-footer from the right baseline. The Jackets appeared to be in good shape with a 55-48 lead and 9:50 to go, but Urbana scored 14 straight points for a 62-55 advantage at the 4:05 mark. CU finished with an 8-0 run to steal the victory. Nourse tallied 18 points, Schryer had 15, and Julie Stauffer added 10 points with a game-high five assists. [STATS] Jan. 13, SAINT VINCENT Saint Vincent scored with two seconds left to beat the Lady Jackets, 67-65, in American Mideast Conference action. Cedarville held a 50-40 lead midway through the second half, but the hosts found themselves trailing, 63-57, with less than two minutes to go. Amanda Porter drained a three-pointer at the 1:15 mark and Pattie Schryer tied it with another trey with 15 seconds left. SVC called timeout to set up the game winner. Julie Nourse recorded game-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds to pace the Lady Jackets. Julie Stauffer scored 16, Porter tallied 13, and Schryer finished with 11. [STATS] Jan. 9, GENEVA The Cedarville backcourt of Amanda Porter and Julie Stauffer scored 15 points each to help the Lady Jackets end a six-game losing streak with a 60-48 victory against Geneva in American Mideast Conference play. CU scored the final five points of the first half for a 30-28 lead at the intermission and then never trailed in the second period while building their advantage to as much as 15 points. Julie Nourse scored 11 points, Pattie Schryer chipped in 10, and Karyn Pierce hauled in a game-high 11 rebounds. [STATS] Jan. 6, WALSH A late spurt by visiting Walsh in the second half was the difference for the Cavaliers in a 75-61 victory over the Lady Jackets in American Mideast Conference action. Cedarville recovered from a ten-point second-half deficit to grab their only lead of the game, 50-49, with 9:05 to play on a layup from Julie Nourse. The Cavaliers slowly pulled away by outscoring the hosts, 26-11, down the stretch. Amanda Porter finished with a game-high 16 points for the Lady Jackets. Julie Stauffer had 12 points with seven assists while Nourse and Pattie Schryer chipped in 11 points each. [STATS] Jan. 4, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE Mount Vernon Nazarene held off a Cedarville comeback for a 79-75 American Mideast Conference victory. The Lady Jackets rallied from a 17-point halftime deficit and took their only lead of the game, 59-58, with 9:45 left on a basket from Amanda Porter. MVNC scored the next four points and never relinquished the lead. Cedarville twice got within a point coming down the stretch. They had two possessions trailing 76-75 with less than a minute left, but failed to score the go ahead basket. Porter scored 20 of her game-high 24 points in the second half for Cedarville, who dropped their fifth straight game. Karyn Pierce provided 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench and Julie Stauffer scored 11. After making just one of their first 17 field goal attempts and shooting a cold 24 percent in the opening period, the Jackets hit 12 of their first 16 in the second half and shot 60 percent over the final 20 minutes to finish at 42 percent for the game. [STATS] Dec. 29, Marian (Madonna Invitational) Marian handed Cedarville their fourth straight loss with a 78-70 decision in the consolation game of the Madonna Invitational. The two teams were tied 37-37 at the intermission, but the Knights hit 17-of-21 free throws in the second half and took advantage of 27 CU turnovers for the game to pull away. Freshman guard Julie Stauffer drained five treys and scored 20 points for the Lady Jackets. Pattie Schryer added 19 points with a game-high eight rebounds while Molly Earley netted 11 points. [STATS] Dec. 28, Indiana-South Bend (Madonna Invitational) Senior center Julie Nourse tallied game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds, but Indiana-South Bend hung on to defeat Cedarville, 61-56, in the opening round of the Madonna Invitational. The game was close throughout with 14 ties, but the Titans used a 16-4 advantage at the free throw line to post the victory. Karyn Pierce was the only other Lady Jacket to score in double figures by providing 11 points off the bench. Senior guard Amanda Porter returned to the starting line-up after missing the last two games due to a shoulder injury suffered on Dec. 2 and scored nine points. Nourse moved in to fifth place on Cedarville's all-time scoring list with 1,444 career points. [STATS] Dec. 14, at Ohio Dominican Ohio Dominican pulled away in the second half to defeat Cedarville, 66-51, in American Mideast Conference action. The game was tied 27-27 at the intermission, but the host Panthers outscored CU 39-24 in the second period which included a 13-1 edge at the charity stripe. Pattie Schryer was the only Lady Jacket to reach double figures by netting 12 points. [STATS] Dec. 9, at Transylvania Transylvania hung on to end Cedarville's three-game winning streak with a 60-58 non-conference victory. The host Pioneers, 8-1 overall, held a 30-24 lead at the half. The Lady Jackets made 11-of-12 free throws in the second half but hit just 36 percent of their field goal attempts for the game. Julie Nourse tallied 18 points, Julie Stauffer scored 12, and Molly Earley added 10. Leading scorer Amanda Porter (15.1 ppg) missed the game due to a shoulder injury suffered a week earlier at Concordia. [STATS] Dec. 2, at Concordia The Lady Jackets picked up their third straight win by posting a 79-64 non-conference victory at previously unbeaten Concordia. Pattie Schryer scored a game-high 22 points and rookie point guard Julie Stauffer added 19 with eight assists. Freshman forward Molly Earley supplied 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds while Julie Nourse netted 10 points. The host Cardinals took a brief 3-2 lead, but CU bounced back and never trailed again. It didn't come without a price as leading scorer Amanda Porter suffered a dislocated shoulder. The senior guard, who has 1,236 career points, is expected to be out a couple of weeks. [STATS] Nov. 28, WILBERFORCE Amanda Porter scored 18 points to lead four Lady Jackets in doubles figures as CU opened the American Mideast Conference schedule with a 80-54 win over Wilberforce. The hosts scored the first six points of the game and sprinted to a 49-18 halftime lead. Julie Nourse had 15 points while Julie Stauffer and Stephanie Schanher added 11 points apiece. [STATS] Nov. 21, BLUFFTON Senior guard Amanda Porter scored 20 points, handed out six assists, and came out with eight steals to pace the Lady Jackets to a 69-63 non-conference win over Bluffton. Cedarville struggled until taking the lead for good with 6:25 left on a Julie Nourse basket and then sealed the victory by hitting 11-of-14 free throws in the final 1:50. Nourse and Stephanie Schanher added 11 points each for the Jackets. [STATS] Nov. 18, at Huntington (Huntington Invitational) Huntington jumped out to a 13-point halftime lead and held on to defeat Cedarville, 55-52, in the final of the Huntington Invitational. The host Foresters led 34-21 at the intermission and withstood a Lady Jacket rally despite CU shooting just 31 percent from the field for the game. Julie Nourse netted a game-high 16 points for the Jackets. Pattie Schryer scored 14 and Ashley Smith came off the bench with 10. Nourse and Amanda Porter were selected to the all-tournament team. [STATS] Nov. 17, Madonna (Huntington Invitational) Amanda Porter scored 17 points and Cedarville pulled away in the second half to notch their first victory of the season with a 70-55 win over Madonna in the opening round of the Huntington Invitational. The Lady Jackets led 32-30 at the half and broke the game open in the second period by hitting 12 of 14 free throws and holding Madonna to just 19 percent shooting from the field. Freshman guard Julie Stauffer tallied 16 points and Julie Nourse added 12 points with a game-high 10 rebounds. [STATS] Nov. 14, TAYLOR Taylor outscored Cedarville 23-1 at the free throw line en route to a 73-59 non-conference victory. The Trojans, 3-2, attempted 29 charity tosses to just two for the hosts with both of those coming in the second half. Even with the discrepancy, the Lady Jackets led by as much as 22-16 midway through the first half, but the teams were tied at 35-35 by intermission. Cedarville's last lead was 42-41 with 16:25 to play when the Trojans regained the lead for good with two more free throws which fueled a 17-6 spurt. Amanda Porter tossed in 19 points for the Jackets while Pattie Schryer tallied 13. [STATS] Nov. 11, ROBERTS WESLEYAN (Cedarville Invitational) Roberts Wesleyan rallied for a 70-63 win over the Lady Jackets in the consolation game of the Cedarville Invitational. The hosts held a 55-48 lead with 9:30 to play, but the Raiders scored 11 straight points to take the lead for good. Pattie Schryer rained in 21 points, Julie Nourse tallied 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, and Amanda Porter chipped in 12 points with eight assists. Poor shooting doomed Cedarville for the second straight game as they made just 31 percent of their shots from the field and 57 percent at the line. Schryer and Porter were voted to the all-tournament team. Bethel won the championship game, 81-38, over Kentucky Christian. [STATS] Nov. 10, KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN (Cedarville Invitational) Kentucky Christian scored the last six points over the final 2:20 to shock the Lady Jackets, 60-55, in the first round of the Cedarville Invitational. Miserable shooting doomed the hosts as they made just 31 percent of their shots from the field and 58 percent at the charity stripe. The Jackets bolted to a 20-10 lead then struggled the rest of the way despite holding a 38-31 advantage with 13:20 left. Amanda Porter was the lone Cedarville player in double figures with 23 points. Kentucky Christian, the reigning NCCAA Division II champion, improved to 4-1. [STATS] |
