2001 Match Recaps May 9, Piedmont (NCCAA National Invitational) Cedarville set a school record for most victories in a season with a 15-4 mark following a 9-0 victory over Piedmont in the NCCAA National Invitational consolation match. The netters swept the singles in straight sets and won the three doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. The 15 victories surpasses the previous record of 12 set last spring. The CU women have had 16 consecutive seasons with a record of .500 or better. [MATCH RESULTS] May 8, Kentucky Christian (NCCAA National Invitational) The Jackets advanced to the consolation match following a 9-0 win over Kentucky Christian. The Knights forfeited three matches and Cedarville won everything else in straight sets. [MATCH RESULTS] May 8, Olivet Nazarene (NCCAA National Invitational) Olivet Nazarene handed CU a 7-2 setback in the second round. Amy Gregory and Carrie Hartman picked up a 9-7 victory at #1 doubles while the #3 tandem of Diana Locke and Sarah Rogers were 8-1 winners. The Tigers swept the singles including two matches via third-set tiebreakers. [MATCH RESULTS] May 8, Judson AL (NCCAA National Invitational) The Lady Jackets opened play at the NCCAA National Invitational with an easy 9-0 victory over Judson College of Alabama. Cedarville lost only five games total throughout the match while setting a school record with their 13th victory of the season. [MATCH RESULTS] May 4, WALSH (NAIA Region IX Tournament) Walsh turned around a regular season setback to American Mideast Conference champion Cedarville with a 5-4 win in the NAIA Region IX championship match. The Lady Jackets trailed 2-1 coming out of the doubles with the point coming from the #3 team of Sarah Rogers and Diana Locke. CU picked up singles wins from #2 Carrie Hartman, #3 Jen Roman, and #4 Rogers. [MATCH RESULTS] May 3, SHAWNEE STATE (NAIA Region IX Tournament) The defending champion and #1 seed Lady Jackets beat Shawnee State, 8-1, to advance to the NAIA Region IX Tournament final to face Walsh. The match was more of a struggle than the final might indicate. With doubles on the courts first, Cedarville squeaked out a 9-8 victory at the #2 slot and a 9-7 win at #3. Amy Gregory and Carrie Hartman, the squad's top two singles players, sealed the win with straight-set victories. [MATCH RESULTS] April 26, TRANSYLVANIA Cedarville completed the regular season with a five-match winning after a 7-1 decision over Transylvania in a non-conference match. The Jackets were winners before the match ever started since the Pioneers arrived with just two players. Carrie Hartman picked up a 7-5, 6-0 victory at #2 singles. CU was awarded forfeit wins at singles positions #3 through #6 as well as doubles #2 and #3. [MATCH RESULTS] April 24, SHAWNEE STATE Cedarville clinched their first American Mideast Conference championship in seven years with a 9-0 victory over Shawnee State. The Lady Jackets, who are also the reigning NAIA Region IX champions, swept the six singles matches in straight sets and dropped just eight games total while winning the three doubles matches. [MATCH RESULTS] April 23, MIAMI-MIDDLETOWN Cedarville cruised past Miami-Middletown, 8-1, in a non-conference match as head coach Pam Johnson gave three of her top players the day off. Those who filled in responded by sweeping the singles as they won all but 10 games. [MATCH RESULTS] April 21, WALSH The Lady Jackets clinched at least a share of their first American Mideast Conference title in seven years by nipping six-time defending champion Walsh, 5-4. Amy Gregory and Carrie Hartman, CU's top two players, led the way with singles victories and then teamed up for the clinching point in doubles. Gregory rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at the #1 spot while Hartman posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory. The twosome combined for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles. The other points for the Lady Jackets came from #4 Sarah Rogers and #5 Diana Locke. [MATCH RESULTS] April 17, TIFFIN The Lady Jackets defeated Tiffin, 9-0, indoors to set up a title match with six-time defending American Mideast Conference champion Walsh on the home courts. CU had no problem with the visiting Dragons as they dropped just 10 games total in singles and doubles combined. [MATCH RESULTS] April 10, WITTENBERG Wittenberg took care of Cedarville, 9-0, in a non-conference match moved indoors due to the weather. The Tigers won the six singles matches in straight sets. The Jackets best effort came from #3 Jen Roman who was beaten 7-6, 6-4. Sarah Rogers and Diana Locke dropped a 9-8 decision at #3 doubles after losing the tiebreaker, 7-2. [MATCH RESULTS] April 7, at Seton Hill Cedarville remained unbeaten through four American Mideast Conference matches with an easy 9-0 win at Seton Hill. Jen Roman moved up to the #2 singles spot and needed three sets to post a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 victory. The Jackets won the other five matches in straight sets and dropped just five games in the process while the doubles teams lost only two games total. [MATCH RESULTS] April 6, at Geneva The Lady Jackets crushed host Geneva, 9-0, in an American Mideast Conference match. Cedarville won the six singles matches in straight sets and the closest encounter in doubles came at the #2 spot where Jenny Elliott and Jen Roman posted an 8-5 victory. [MATCH RESULTS] April 3, at Mount St. Joseph Cedarville was never threatened in cruising to a 9-0 non-conference win at Mount St. Joseph. The hosts had only four players and the Lady Jackets swept the four singles matches that were played in straight sets, losing seven games total. They had little problem in taking two doubles matches. Two singles points and a doubles point were earned by default. [MATCH RESULTS] April 2, DAYTON NCAA Division I Dayton handed the Lady Jackets their first loss of the season, 9-0. The Flyers won all six singles matches in straight sets. Cedarville's best opportunity for a point came at #3 doubles where Jen Roman and Diana Locke were nipped 9-8 after losing dropping the tiebreaker, 7-3. [MATCH RESULTS] March 31, MALONE The Lady Jackets posted an impressive 6-3 American Mideast Conference win over Malone with five points coming in singles. Recording victories were Amy Gregory, Carrie Hartman, Sarah Rogers, Jenny Elliott, and Diana Locke. In doubles, Locke teamed with Jen Roman for a point at the #3 spot. [MATCH RESULTS] March 30, at Notre Dame College Cedarville opened the American Mideast Conference schedule with an easy 9-0 victory at Notre Dame College. The Jackets swept the singles in straight sets including four matches in which they did not lose a game. [MATCH RESULTS] March 28, OHIO NORTHERN The Lady Jackets rolled to an 8-1 victory against Ohio Northern in their 2001 season opener on the home courts. Amy Gregory, Carrie Hartman, Jenny Roman, Sarah Rogers, Jenny Elliott, and Diana Locke posted wins as CU swept the singles.
