Yellow Jackets

May 2-3, at American Mideast Conference Championship
Craig Bennington finished 4th in the American Mideast Conference championship to earn All-AMC honors and the Yellow Jackets placed 6th out of 11 teams. Bennington carded rounds of 78-75-73 for a 226 which was two shots off of medalist honors. He is the first all-conference golfer for Cedarville in 12 years. Other scores for CU were Tom Simon 87-82-78-247; Mike Poelzer 80-85-82-247; Jonathan Brust 84-84-84-252; and Ben Foreman 84-85-84-253. Walsh won the 54-hole event with a 917 total while Mount Vernon Nazarene and defending champion Malone tied for 2nd, nine shots back. Cedarville was 6th at 969. [COMPLETE RESULTS]

April 22-23, 21st Annual CEDARVILLE INVITATIONAL
The Yellow Jackets shot their best team score in 18 years, but still finished 4th out of five schools in the 21st Annual Cedarville Invitational. CU carded a 306 total in the second round - their lowest score since firing a 306 in the 1984 NCCAA District III Tournament - as all five players broke 80. Urbana won the event at 606 winning a tiebreaker with runner-up Shawnee State, who also had 606. Mount Vernon Nazarene was at 616, Cedarville was fourth at 627, and Central State totalled 803. Ben Foreman led the Jackets with rounds of 79-76-155. Other CU scores were Mike Poelzer, 80-76-156; Craig Bennington, 81-78-159; Jonathan Brust, 81-78-159; and Tom Simon, 86-76-162. April 19-20, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed 7th out of nine schools at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational with a two-day total of 655. Malone won the 36-hole event with a score of 600 while runner-up Urbana was just one stroke back. Craig Bennington paced the Yellow Jackets with rounds of 78 and 77 for a 155 total. Other Cedarville scores were Ben Foreman, 82-80-162; Mike Poelzer, 84-84-168; and Jonathan Brust, 88-86-174. Tom Simon, who tallied an 84 in the first round, withdrew from the second round due to a back injury.

April 15-16, at Walsh Invitational
Cedarville finished 9th out of 10 schools at the Walsh Invitational. The host Cavaliers won the event with a 36-hole total of 600 while the Yellow Jackets were at 642. Craig Bennington carded rounds of 81 and 75 for a 156 total. Other scores for CU were Ben Foreman, 80-78-158; Tom Simon, 78-86-164; Mike Poelzer, 87-81-168; and Jonathan Brust, 86-83-169.

April 12-13, at Urbana Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed 6th out of 9 schools at the Urbana Invitational. Cedarville had rounds of 321 and 318 for a 639 total at the Woodland Golf Club. Host Urbana won the event with a 597. Craig Bennington opened with an 85, but came back with a 73 for a 158 total over the 36 holes. Ben Foreman was also at 158 with back-to-back rounds of 79. Other CU scores were Tom Simon 78-84-162; Mike Poelzer 82-82-164; and Jonathan Brust 82-91-173.

April 9, at Central State Invitational
Tom Simon took medalist honors at the Central State Invitational with a 74 and Cedarville placed 2nd as a team. The Yellow Jackets had a 310 total which was seven strokes behind champion Shawnee State. Ben Foreman tied for 2nd place individually with a 75. Other CU scores were Craig Bennington, 77; Jeff Beckley, 84; and Jonathan Brust, 86.

April 4, at Bethel Invitational
Cedarville tied for second place in a unique scoring format at the Bethel Invitational. Saint Joseph's won the eight-team event with a 220 total while the Jackets and Tri-State tied at 224. Each school had three two-man teams. Craig Bennington and Tom Simon carded a best-ball 72 which was the low score of the day in that format. Jonathan Brust and Jeff Beckley tallied a 70 in the two-man scramble while Mike Poelzer and Ben Foreman had an 82 in the alternate shot competition.

April 2, at Shawnee State Invitational
Cedarville opened the season by placing fifth out of eight schools at the Shawnee State Invitational. Mount Vernon Nazarene won the tournament with a score of 294. Rounding out the field was Shawnee State (299), Urbana (310), Tiffin (320), Cedarville (332), Wilmington (344), Ohio-Chillicothe (354), and Central State did not finish. Craig Bennington and Tom Simon each tallied an 81 for the Jackets. Jeff Beckley carded an 84, Ben Foreman and Jonathan Brust each had an 86, and Mike Poelzer turned in an 88.
