2002-03 Game Recaps March 14, Sioux Falls (NAIA Division II Nationals - Second Round) Sioux Falls ended Cedarville's 21-game winning streak and brought to a close the finest Lady Jacket season in the history of the program with a 93-70 decision in the second round of the 12th Annual NAIA Division II National Tournament. CU held a 24-20 lead midway through the first half, but the Cougars finished the period with a 26-9 run for a 46-33 halftime advantage. Sioux Falls opened the second half with back-to-back treys to break the game open. Kirsten Rossotti finished with a team-high 16 points while Kari Flunker tallied 14. Julie Stauffer, who had started the first 93 games of her career, did not play in the first half and saw limited time in the second half due to recurring back problems. [STATS] March 12, Morningside (NAIA Division II Nationals - First Round) Kirsten Rossotti exploded for career-highs of 37 points and 21 rebounds to rally Cedarville to a 80-69 victory over Morningside (Iowa) in the first round of the 12th Annual NAIA Division II National Tournament. It was the 21st consecutive victory for the Lady Jackets, who are making their first-ever NAIA tournament appearance. The Mustangs, who received an at-large berth as the host school, jumped out to a 26-15 lead in the opening period and still held a 33-29 halftime advantage. Rossotti scored 20 of her points in the second half, CU took over the lead early in the frame, and then pulled away in the final minutes to move on to the second round. Kari Flunker finished with 15 points and nine rebounds while Molly Earley had 10 points and eight boards. Cedarville held a commanding 56-34 rebounding edge which included 29 offensive rebounds. [STATS] March 1, at Saint Vincent (AMC Championship Game) Kari Flunker tallied 22 points and nine assists while Kirsten Rossotti added 21 points and nine rebounds to lead NAIA Division II No. 3 Cedarville to a 91-75 victory at Saint Vincent in the American Mideast Conference Championship Game. The Lady Jackets bolted to a 25-point lead in the first half and held a 49-27 advantage at the intermission. The host Bearcats, who entered the contest unbeaten in 11 home games this season, got as close as 12 points with 6:10 to play before CU regained control to pick up their 20th consecutive win. Emily Delimpo came off the bench with 16 points and eight rebounds. Julie Stauffer scored 12 points and dished out eight assists. The Jackets shot 54.1 percent from the field overall which included 10 three-pointers. Cedarville also held a 42-29 rebounding edge. [STATS] Feb. 21, SHAWNEE STATE NAIA Division II No. 4 Cedarville pulled away in the second half for a 69-56 victory over No. 8 Shawnee State in front of a record crowd of 2,986 to claim the American Mideast Conference South Division championship and their first-ever automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament. The Lady Jackets extended their school-record winning streak to 19 straight games while picking up the first conference title in the program's history. They had to do it against the seven-time defending AMC champs. Kirsten Rossotti, who posted yet another double-double of 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Kari Flunker, who hit 5-of-6 treys and added 21 points, sparked CU as they pulled away in the second half. The Jackets led 30-28 at the intermission and Flunker opened the second period with a three-pointer. After the Bears closed the gap to one, Rossotti and Flunker knocked down back-to-back bombs and SSU never got closer than four points the rest of the way. Cedarville held a commanding 43-23 rebounding advantage including a 20-3 bulge in offensive rebounds. [STATS] Feb. 19, at Rio Grande Julie Stauffer scored 22 points, including a go ahead three-pointer with 20 seconds to play, as NAIA Division II No. 4 Cedarville escaped Rio Grande, 65-62, for their 18th consecutive victory in American Mideast Conference South Division action. The win guarantees the Lady Jackets of at least a share of the division title. The Jackets trailed 60-54 with 3:45 to play before beginning their comeback. Kirsten Rossotti, who finished with 14 points, hit two free throws at the 3:20 mark and rookie Emily Delimpo converted a layup one minute later to trim the deficit to 60-58. Following a basket by the Redwomen with 1:55 to go, Rossotti and Kari Flunker each made one-of-two free throws to keep the deficit at two points, 62-60. Rio missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw situation with 38 seconds on the clock setting up Stauffer's winning trey. The Redwomen called timeout with 11 seconds remaining to set up a final shot. Rossotti rebounded the errant attempt, Flunker was ultimately fouled, and then she sealed the outcome with two free throws with just three ticks to go. Stauffer, who was 5-for-7 outside the arc, and Rossotti were the only CU players to score in double figures. Delimpo pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds as the Jackets finished unbeaten on the road in AMC play for the regular season. [STATS] Feb. 15, at Walsh Kirsten Rossotti scored 25 points en route to becoming the Lady Jackets' all-time leading scorer to pace NAIA Division II No. 7 Cedarville to a 73-63 victory at American Mideast Conference South Division foe Walsh for their 17th consecutive victory. The Jackets never trailed as they rolled out to a 24-11 lead before the Cavs closed the gap to 35-30 by halftime. The difference closed to as little as three points in the second half, but a seven-point run by CU propelled the visitors to the win. Julie Stauffer scored 18 points while Emily Delimpo came off the bench with 14 and Kari Flunker added 12. Rossotti surpassed the previous scoring record of 2,103 points set by Vicki Butler (1976-80) with a free throw in the first half. She now has 2,119 career points and is already the program's all-time leading rebounder with 1,104 boards. [STATS] Feb. 11, URBANA Kirsten Rossotti registered her seventh straight double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds to lead NAIA Division II No. 7 Cedarville to their 16th consecutive win with a 65-48 decision against Urbana in an American Mideast Conference South Division game. The Lady Jackets never trailed as they bolted to a 16-2 lead and a 34-24 advantage at the half. The Blue Knights crept back to with 36-32 early in the second period before CU embarked on a 12-point run to take command. Julie Stauffer finished with 12 points while Kari Flunker chipped in 11. The Jackets won despite shooting 32.1 percent from the field overall and 21.4 percent outside the three-point line - both season-lows for a club that leads the AMC in both categories. However, Cedarville outrebounded Urbana 45-35 and outscored the visitors 26-2 at the charity stripe. [STATS] Feb. 8, TIFFIN Kirsten Rossotti totaled 26 points and 12 rebounds, but the NAIA Division II No. 9 Lady Jackets had to withstand a furious Tiffin rally for an 85-83 American Mideast Conference South Division victory for their 15th win in a row. Cedarville appeared to be in good shape with a 68-55 advantage - the largest of the game - with 7:35 to play. However, the Dragons drilled five treys coming down the stretch and missed what would have been a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer. CU took the lead for good at the 12:25 mark of the first half, held a 37-32 cushion at the intermission, and four times enjoyed a 13-point spread during the final period without being able to put Tiffin away. Kari Flunker piled up 15 points, nine assists, eight rebounds, and four steals. Julie Stauffer netted 15 points while Emily Delimpo provided 12 points and nine boards off the bench. Rossotti's output was her sixth straight double-double and 14th of the season. The Li'l Sibs Weekend crowd of 1,388 eclipsed the regular season record of 1,277 set just one week ago during Alumni Weekend. [STATS] Feb. 6, at Shawnee State Kirsten Rossotti scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead NAIA Division II No. 9 Cedarville to a 65-56 victory at No. 7 Shawnee State to take sole possession of first place in the American Mideast Conference South Division. The Lady Jackets led for all but 3:30 of the contest in winning their 14th straight game and 24th overall - both school records. CU took the lead for good with 8:30 left in the first half when Leslie Weaver fired in a three-pointer. The Jackets led 33-28 at the intermission and the host Bears could get no closer than five points in the second half. Cedarville's largest lead was 47-36 following a Kari Flunker trey at the 15:10 mark. Julie Stauffer scored 18 points while Flunker contributed 13 points and four assists. CU made 17-of-22 free throws with Rossotti, who posted her fifth straight double-double and 13th overall, leading the way by hitting 9-of-11 at the stripe. [STATS] Feb. 1, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE Julie Stauffer fired in a game-high 23 points and the NAIA Division II No. 9 Lady Jackets tied two school records with their 13th straight victory and 23rd overall following an 81-59 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene in an American Mideast Conference South Division contest. The Alumni Weekend crowd of 1,277 was the largest to ever see a women's regular season game at Cedarville. The Jackets opened up a 40-26 halftime lead and inflated the bulge to as much as 28 points in the second half. They committed just nine turnovers in the game and outrebounded the Cougars, 40-33. Kirsten Rossotti posted her fourth double-double in a row, and her 12th overall, with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Kari Flunker had 10 points with seven assists and Emily Delimpo chipped in 10 points. [STATS] Jan. 30, at Ohio Dominican Kirsten Rossotti tallied 25 points and 13 rebounds while reaching two milestones in the process as the NAIA Division II No. 9 Lady Jackets won for the 12th consecutive time by holding off No. 11 Ohio Dominican, 71-65, in an American Mideast Conference South Division game. The senior All-America center became just the second Cedarville women's player to surpass 2,000 career points and she became CU's all-time leading rebounder. It looked like the Jackets would coast to victory when a 12-point run early in the second half inflated an eight-point halftime lead to 57-37 at the 14:05 mark. ODU rallied to within 65-63 with 1:01 to play, but Rossotti powered in a key field goal sandwiched in between two free throws each from Julie Stauffer and Kari Flunker to ice the game. Stauffer finished with 13 points and five assists while Flunker added 11 points with four assists. Ohio Dominican is the last team to beat the Jackets, 78-71, back on Dec. 7 in the Athletic Center. Rossotti now totals 2,004 career points while all-time leader Vicki Butler, who played from 1976 to 1980, has 2,103. She also ran her career rebound total to 1,051 to take over the all-time lead from Amy Zehr, who pulled down 1,049 from 1989 to 1993. [STATS] Jan. 25, MALONE Kirsten Rossotti scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the NAIA Division II No. 12 Lady Jackets to their 11th straight victory with an 81-66 decision over Malone in American Mideast Conference South Division action. Cedarville led 40-34 at the intermission, but then shot 55 percent from the field in the second period while holding the Pioneers to a 29-percent accuracy. Julie Stauffer scored 14 points with a game-high six assists. Emily Delimpo provided 13 points off of the bench and Kari Flunker chipped in 11 points with nine rebounds. [STATS] Jan. 21, at Urbana Julie Stauffer poured in 20 points while Kirsten Rossotti and Emily Delimpo added double-doubles to lead NAIA Division II No. 12 Cedarville to a 82-63 American Mideast Conference South Division victory at Urbana for their 10th consecutive win. The Lady Jackets never trailed after surrendering the first basket of the game. Stauffer answered with three straight three-pointers to fuel an 18-4 run. CU held the Blue Knights scoreless for the final 5:55 of the period while scoring the final 14 points for a 45-24 halftime lead. Urbana got no closer than 16 points in the second half. Stauffer finished 5-for-7 outside the arc and also handed out six assists. Rossotti totaled 19 points and 11 rebounds while Delimpo was good for 17 points and 10 boards. Kari Flunker finished with 10 points. [STATS] Jan. 18, WALSH Kirsten Rossotti powered in 22 points and Kari Flunker netted 18 to pace NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville to a 65-50 win over Walsh for their ninth consecutive victory in an American Mideast Conference South Division game. The Lady Jackets struggled despite scoring the first nine points of the game. The hosts trailed 24-22 at halftime and 40-34 with 12:30 left. A three-pointer by Tami Gheen ignited an 8-0 run which gave CU the lead for good. The Jackets took their biggest lead at 65-47 in the final minute. Molly Earley scored 11 points and grabbed a game-high seven rebounds to help Cedarville post a 40-28 rebounding edge. Flunker added four assists and three steals to the win while backcourt mate Julie Stauffer scored just six points, but dished out five assists with three steals. Cedarville was 17-for-22 at the line including 13-for-16 in the second half. [STATS] Jan. 16, at Wilberforce Kari Flunker and Kirsten Rossotti scored 17 points apiece to lead NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville to their eighth straight win with a 85-62 victory at Wilberforce in an American Mideast Conference South Division game. The Lady Jackets outscored the host Bulldogs 22-7 over the final ten minutes of the first half for a 42-29 lead at the break. CU slowly pulled away thanks to 56 percent shooting from the field overall and a 5-for-6 showing outside the arc over the final 20 minutes. Julie Stauffer added 12 points while Tami Gheen had 10. The Jackets had a convincing 55-33 rebounding edge. [STATS] Jan. 14, RIO GRANDE Kari Flunker scored 20 points and NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville bolted to a big lead early en route to an 87-58 decision over Rio Grande in American Mideast Conference South Division play. The Lady Jackets, who won for the seventh straight time, scored the game's first nine points and had a 25-5 bulge eight minutes in. The lead was 17 points at halftime and it swelled to as much as 33 points in the second half as CU ended a 12-game losing streak to the Redwomen. Kirsten Rossotti scored 19 points and became only the second Lady Jacket to reach 1,000 career rebounds. Emily Delimpo came off the bench with 15 points, and Julie Stauffer netted 14. [STATS] Jan. 11, at Tiffin Julie Stauffer scored 22 points and the NAIA Division II No. 15 Lady Jackets escaped with their sixth straight victory in a 71-68 win at Tiffin in American Mideast Conference South Division action. Stauffer's free throw with 9.1 seconds left accounted for the final score as the Dragons rimmed out a three-pointer at the buzzer. Tiffin turned around an 11-point second-half deficit into a three-point lead with six minutes to play. The hosts still led 63-62 at the 4:40 mark before Kari Flunker hit a short jumper to give CU the lead for good and then her trey upped the advantage to four points with 2:55 left. The Dragons got no closer than three points the rest of the way. Kirsten Rossotti netted 17 points while Flunker finished with 15 points, six assists, and four steals. [STATS] Jan. 4, at Webber International (Webber International Classic) Kari Flunker fired in 27 points to pace NAIA Division II No. 18 Cedarville to an 88-76 win versus Webber International in the championship game of the Webber International Classic for the Lady Jackets' fifth consecutive victory. CU opened up a 45-33 halftime lead and then had to shoot 64 percent from the field in the second half to hold the Lady Warriors at bay. Julie Stauffer scored 19 points while Kirsten Rossotti added 12. The Jackets outrebounded Webber 41-28 with Molly Earley pulling down a game-high nine boards. Cedarville buried 8-of-15 shots from outside the arc and converted 18-of-23 free throws. [STATS] Jan. 3, Lyndon State (Webber International Classic) Beth Bunchkowski and Kirsten Rossotti scored 16 points each as NAIA Division II No. 18 Cedarville coasted to an 85-41 victory over Lyndon State in the first round of the Webber International Classic. The Lady Jackets bolted to a 49-17 halftime lead and held the Hornets to 26 percent field goal shooting for the game. Julie Stauffer totaled 10 points and five assists while Kari Flunker added 10 points, six steals, and four assists. Cedarville enjoyed a commanding 58-27 rebounding edge and forced Lyndon State into 24 turnovers. It was the fourth straight victory for the Lady Jackets. [STATS] Dec. 20, HUNTINGTON Kirsten Rossotti scored 25 points with 11 rebounds and Julie Stauffer netted her 1,000th career point as NAIA Division II No. 18 Cedarville used a big second half to defeat Huntington 87-72 in a non-conference game. Stauffer, who finished with 16 points and six assists, broke a 38-38 halftime tie with a three-pointer to begin the second half and the Lady Jackets never relinquished the lead. CU outscored the Foresters 32-9 in the opening 11 minutes of the final period for the largest difference in the game at 70-47. The Jackets shot 51 percent from the field in the decisive second half, including a 6-for-7 accuracy outside the arc, and outrebounded Huntington 27-13. Rossotti's production was her third straight double-double and seventh overall. Kari Flunker tallied 15 points with six assists and Emily Delimpo, who started in place of injured Molly Earley, scored 10 points and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds. [STATS] Dec. 12, WILBERFORCE Emily Delimpo came off the bench with a game-high 19 points to lead NAIA Division II No. 18 Cedarville to a 84-48 victory over Greene County rival Wilberforce in an American Mideast Conference South Division contest. The Lady Jackets bolted to a 49-22 halftime lead by shooting 60.6 percent from the field. Kirsten Rossotti notched her second straight double-double and sixth of the season with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Molly Earley netted 14 points while Kari Flunker chipped in 10. [STATS] Dec. 10, BETHEL Emily Delimpo scored a career-high 22 points as NAIA Division II No. 18 Cedarville rolled to an impressive 97-73 victory over No. 7 and previously unbeaten Bethel in a non-conference game. The freshman forward was a perfect 10-for-10 from the floor which was one field goal shy of the school record for the most field goals made in a game without a miss. The Lady Jackets, who shot .714 from the field in the first half and a season-high .672 for the game, expanded a 48-35 halftime lead to as much as 28 points in the second period. Kirsten Rossotti had a double-double consisting of 20 points and 13 rebounds. Julie Stauffer and Kari Flunker scored 14 points apiece while Michelle Patrick chipped in 10. Cedarville held a 40-25 rebounding edge and made 16-of-21 free throws. [STATS] Dec. 7, OHIO DOMINICAN Ohio Dominican ended NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville's five-game winning streak with a 78-71 win in American Mideast Conference South Division action. The two teams were tied 63-63 with 6:30 left and the Panthers scored six straight points to take the lead for good. CU got no closer than three points the rest of the way. Kirsten Rossotti scored 21 points to move into second place on Cedarville's all-time scoring list with 1,768 points. Kari Flunker netted 13 points to go along with seven assists. Emily Delimpo and Molly Earley pulled a game-high 10 rebounds apiece. [STATS] Dec. 5, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Kirsten Rossotti led four Lady Jackets in double figures with 24 points as NAIA Division II No. 13 Cedarville defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene, 81-56, in an American Mideast Conference South Division contest. The 10-1 start is the best in the 41-year history of the CU women's basketball program. Rookie forward Emily Delimpo posted a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds. Kari Flunker totaled 12 points, four assists, and four steals while Julie Stauffer added 10 points, four assists, and five steals. It was another sluggish start for the Jackets, who trailed 14-5 less than six minutes into the game. However, a 12-point run late in the first half propelled Cedarville to a 37-28 halftime advantage and an 18-5 spurt to start the second period blew the game open. [STATS] Dec. 3, at Malone NAIA All-American Kirsten Rossotti racked up 31 points and 15 rebounds to rally the No. 13 ranked Lady Jackets to an 88-84 win at Malone in their American Mideast Conference South Division opener. Cedarville, who earlier in the day found out they earned the highest NAIA rating in the program's history, fell into a 29-15 hole just nine minutes into the game before recovering for a 43-43 halftime tie. The Jackets took the lead for good, 76-74, when Kari Flunker drilled a three-pointer with 6:20 to go. She hit another trey at the 2:05 mark for an 84-79 advantage. Rossotti erupted for 20 points and 12 boards in the second half alone. Julie Stauffer finished with 17 points and six assists, Flunker tallied 15 points, and Michelle Patrick matched her career-high with 14 points and four assists. [STATS] Nov. 26, KENDALL Kari Flunker dropped in six three-point baskets for 18 points to lead Cedarville to a 74-57 non-conference victory over Kendall. The Lady Jackets led 31-23 at halftime and then inflated the bulge to 26 points in the first nine minutes of the second period. Kirsten Rossotti netted 15 points while freshmen Emily Delimpo tallied a double-double consisting of 12 points and 11 rebounds. [STATS] Nov. 23, at Grove City (Grove City Classic) Kirsten Rossotti pumped in 21 points to lead the Lady Jackets to a 64-37 win versus Grove City as Cedarville swept both games at the Grove City Classic. Julie Stauffer netted 11 points while tournament MVP Kari Flunker scored 10 points and handed out four assists. Rossotti and Stauffer joined Flunker on the all-tournament team. CU sprinted to a 21-point halftime lead and increased the bulge to as much as 30 points in the second period. The Jackets controlled the boards 48-36 with freshman Emily Delimpo hauling in a career-high 11 rebounds. [STATS] Nov. 22, Wheeling Jesuit (Grove City Classic) Kari Flunker matched a school record with seven three-point baskets, including two in overtime, to lead Cedarville to a 78-75 win versus NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit in the Grove City Classic. The Lady Jackets never trailed in the extra session as Flunker, who scored a game-high 25 points, buried two treys in the first minute. Her two free throws with 13 seconds left accounted for the final. CU scored the first 13 points of the game, but the Cardinals recovered to trail by three at the intermission. The Jackets opened up a 12-point bulge in the second period and Wheeling forced the OT with a three-pointer with 12 seconds to go in regulation. Kirsten Rossotti and Julie Stauffer pumped in 20 points apiece to aid the offense. Flunker finished 7-for-11 outside the arc while Stauffer was 4-for-6. [STATS] Nov. 19, at Central State NAIA Division I No. 4 Central State handed the Lady Jackets their first loss of the season, 70-61, in a non-conference game. The unbeaten Lady Marauders held a slim 33-31 halftime advantage, but sprinted to a 55-37 bulge with 13:30 left. CU climbed to within 59-53 at the 5:40 mark and could get no closer. Kari Flunker tallied 19 points including a 4-for-5 showing behind the three-point arc. Kirsten Rossotti totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds while Julie Stauffer added 12 points and five assists. [STATS] Nov. 16, Indiana Tech (Grace Classic) Kirsten Rossotti recorded 23 points and 14 rebounds and tournament MVP Julie Stauffer added 20 points to pace Cedarville to an 80-70 win over Indiana Tech in the championship game of the Grace Classic. The unbeaten Lady Jackets trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and were behind 41-38 at the intermission. CU broke a tie game with a 13-1 run late in the second half to take control. Kari Flunker scored 11 points with seven assists and Molly Earley added 11 points. Rossotti joined Stauffer on the all-tournament team. [STATS] Nov. 15, Indiana-South Bend (Grace Classic) Cedarville finished the game with a 21-5 run to knock off Indiana-South Bend, 84-69, in the first round of the Grace Classic. The Lady Jackets trailed 64-63 at the 7:15 mark before taking off on their decisive spurt. Julie Stauffer poured in a game-high 25 points, including a 12-for-14 effort at the free throw line, to lead the way. Kirsten Rossotti made 10-of-13 charity tosses and tallied 22 points with a game-high nine rebounds. Kari Flunker added 13 points and matched her career-high for the second straight game with nine assists. Cedarville's 4-0 start is the school's best since the 1969-70 club won their first six games of the season. [STATS] Nov. 12, TAYLOR Kirsten Rossotti powered her way to a game-high 22 points with nine rebounds to lead Cedarville to a 75-64 non-conference victory over Taylor. It's the first time in 11 years that the Lady Jackets have won their first three games of the season. CU scored the first 10 points of the second half for their largest lead of the game at 51-34. The Trojans clawed back to within 64-62 at the 4:10 mark, but the Jackets took over with nine straight points which included five free throws from Rossotti. Julie Stauffer buried four three-pointers and scored 14 points. Kari Flunker netted 12 points and matched her career-high of nine assists. Cedarville had a 43-38 rebounding edge and made 17 of 20 free throws. Rossotti was 10-for-11 at the stripe. [STATS] Nov. 9, GENEVA (Cedarville Invitational) Kari Flunker buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Lady Jackets a 70-67 victory over Geneva in the championship game of the Cedarville Invitational. CU squandered an 18-point first-half lead, and trailed 64-63 with 1:45 left, but the had the ball for the final 15 seconds calling a timeout with eight ticks remaining. Julie Stauffer took the inbounds pass at midcourt and assisted Flunker's game-winner. Tournament MVP Kirsten Rossotti racked up game-highs of 25 points and 12 rebounds. Flunker finished with 16 points and Stauffer, who also was named to the all-tournament team, chipped in 10. [STATS] Nov. 8, MADONNA (Cedarville Invitational) Julie Stauffer scored a game-high 19 points as the Lady Jackets overcame a sluggish season-opening performance with a 64-57 win over Madonna in the first game of the Cedarville Invitational. CU trailed 53-52 with 5:30 to play before going off on a 12-point run in the next four minutes to take control. Stauffer, who scored 13 of her points in the second half, sparked the decisive spurt with a three-point play to give the hosts a four-point lead. NAIA Division II All-American Kirsten Rossotti netted 13 of her 15 points in the final period. The Jackets face Geneva, a 67-60 winner over Grace, in tonight's championship game.
