2002 Meet Recaps Nov. 23, at NAIA Nationals The defending champion Lady Jackets picked up their second-best finish in school history with a 4th-place showing at the NAIA Nationals. No. 1 ranked Northwest WA won the 29-team event with 77 points and was followed by Concordia NE, 116; Black Hills State SD 136; and Cedarville, 168. Sarah Roberts was CU's top finisher in 32nd place with a time of 19:16 for the 5,000 meters while Erin Nehus, who ran for the first time since injuring her foot two weeks ago, was 33rd in 19:17. Others scoring for the Jackets, who entered race ranked No. 2, were Jennifer Tetrick (39th; 19:23), Jennifer McKellar (40th; 19:24), and Kim McNeilance (54th; 19:35). There were 255 competitors and the top 30 finishers are NAIA All-Americans. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Nov. 16, NCCAA NATIONALS Jennifer Tetrick led a 1-2-3 finish for Cedarville as the Lady Jackets won the National Christian College Athletic Association banner for the second straight year at John Bryan State Park. Tetrick covered the 5,000 meters in a season-low 18:48. Sarah Roberts placed 2nd in 18:59 while Kim McNeilance was 3rd with a career-best 19:02 effort. Abigail Winburn also turned in a career-best time of 19:25 to finish 12th and Heidi Wright was 15th in 19:32. All five runners earned NCCAA All-America honors by finishing in the Top 15. Cedarville, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, totalled 33 points while No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan was 2nd with 63 points and No. 25 Malone was 3rd in the 23-team field with 110 points. The win was even more impressive in that the Jackets were without defending NCCAA champion and three-time NAIA All-American Erin Nehus, who missed the race due to a foot injury. She hopes to be ready for next week's NAIA Nationals in Kenosha, WI where CU will attempt to defend their title. Elvin King was recognized as NCCAA Coach of the Year and Wright was presented the Bullock Award which recognizes athletic accomplishments, academic excellence, leadership, and Christian character. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Nov. 9, at American Mideast Conference Championship Sarah Roberts won her first collegiate individual title and the NAIA No. 2 Lady Jackets rolled to their third straight American Mideast Conference championship. Roberts covered the 5,000 meters in 18:48 to beat teammate Jennifer Tetrick, who finished 2nd, by three seconds. It was depth that carried Cedarville to the win as three-time NAIA All-American and defending AMC champion Erin Nehus could not finish the race due to a sprained ankle. It was the first-time in her four-year career that she was not CU's top finisher in a race. Picking up the slack for the Jackets were Kim McNeilance (6th; 19:09), Jennifer McKellar (8th; 19:15), and Ann-Marie Wiggins (12th; 19:42). Cedarville totalled 29 points, NAIA No. 25 Malone was 2nd with 65 points, and No. 11 Roberts Wesleyan was 3rd in the 12-team field with 78 points. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Oct. 18, at Wilmington Classic Three-time NAIA All-American Erin Nehus won her third race of the season as the No. 1 ranked Lady Jackets cruised to victory at the Wilmington Classic. Cedarville had 24 points to easily outdistance runner-up Muskingum, who finished with 101 points. There were 16 teams in the meet which was set up on a 6,000 meter course as opposed to the usual 5K layout. Nehus turned in a time of 23:26 to win by 10 seconds. Four other Lady Jackets placed in the Top 10. That quartet consisted of Sarah Roberts (3rd; 23:38), Kim McNeilance (4th; 23:47), Jennifer Tetrick (6th; 23:58), and Jennifer McKellar (10th; 24:31). [COMPLETE RESULTS] Oct. 11, at All-Ohio Championship The Lady Jackets, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, placed 5th behind four NCAA Division I schools at the All-Ohio Championships. Toledo won the 39-team meet with 46 points and was followed by Kent State, 76; Miami, 84; Akron, 162; and Cedarville, 171. Erin Nehus toured the 5,000 meters in 19:23 to finish 26th. Sarah Roberts was 27th in 19:30 while Jennifer Tetrick was 28th in 19:31. Heidi Wright (42nd; 19:54) and Jennifer McKellar (48th; 19:58) rounded out the scoring the Lady Jackets. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Sept. 28, at Louisville Classic Defending NAIA national champion and No. 1 ranked Cedarville finished 1-2-3 in the individual standings and won the 23-team Greater Louisville Classic. The Lady Jackets had 31 points to easily outdistance runner-up and NCAA Division I Louisville, who finished with 80 points. Erin Nehus won the 5,000 meter race in 18:59, Jennifer Tetrick was 2nd in 19:07, and Sarah Roberts placed 3rd in 19:10. Freshman Jennifer McKellar finished 14th in 19:35 and Kim McNeilance was 15th in 19:36. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Sept. 21, at Midwest Collegiate Invitational Erin Nehus paced the NAIA No. 1 ranked Lady Jackets to a 2nd-place finish at the Midwest Collegiate Invitational. NCAA Division II Northern Michigan won the meet with 34 points, Cedarville tallied 84, and Wayne State finished with 90 points to place 3rd in the 30-team field. Nehus placed 6th with a time of 18:47 for the 5,000 meters. Other Lady Jacket finishers were Sarah Roberts (16th; 19:04), Kim McNeilance (18th; 19:08), Jennifer Tetrick (19th; 19:10), and Jennifer McKellar (27th; 19:18). [COMPLETE RESULTS] Sept. 14, 12th ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP INVITATIONAL Three-time NAIA All-American Erin Nehus won the 12th Annual Friendship Invitational individual title to lead the host and NAIA No. 1 ranked Lady Jackets to their third straight team championship. Cedarville had 24 points to easily outdistance runner-up Wright State, who finished with 64. It marked the eighth time in the history of the event that CU has come out with the win. Nehus toured the 5,000 meters in 18:28 while Sarah Roberts placed 3rd overall with a career best time of 18:48. CU's other top five finishers were Jennifer McKellar (4th; 18:49), Jennifer Tetrick (6th; 19:05), and Heidi Wright (10th; 19:30). Nehus' victory was the first for a Cedarville runner in the event since 1998. [COMPLETE RESULTS] Sept. 7, at Detroit Mercy Invitational Cedarville, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, opened the season by placing 3rd of 10 schools at the NCAA Division I Detroit Mercy Invitational. Michigan won the meet with 32 points, Wayne State was next with 87, while Cedarville recorded 93 points. Erin Nehus covered the 5,000 meters in 18:41 to finish 8th.
