All-America Scholar-Athlete Dave Dice helped CU become the #1 NAIA Scholar-Team in men's tennis.

Jackets top NAIA Scholar-Team
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (7-8-2004) - Cedarville University is the #1 NAIA Scholar-Team in men's tennis for the 2004 season. The Yellow Jackets produced a combined cumulative grade point average of 3.76 to outdistance runner-up Indiana Wesleyan, who finished at 3.72.

The five Yellow Jackets who figured into the GPA were seniors Dave Dice, Gertjan Flikweert, and Matt Michonski as well as sophomores Tim Hartman and Jared Michonski.

Dice and Flikkweert were named NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes which recognizes juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative GPA. The two joined Matt Michonski as NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athletes which has a minimum 3.40 GPA. [NAIA SCHOLAR-TEAMS]

Jackets 5th in NCCAA
GREER, S.C. (5-11-2004) - Cedarville finished 5th at the NCCAA National Tournament with a 5-3 victory over Bethel. The outcome gives the Yellow Jackets their first 20-win season in 11 years.

CU held a 2-1 advantage after doubles. The #1 pair of Tim Hartman and Dave Dice recorded an 8-1 victory while #3 Jared Michonski and Matt Leman were 8-4 winners. Singles wins came from #2 Dice (7-6, 6-3), #3 Gertjan Flikweert (4-6, 6-0, 6-1), and #6 Leman (6-2, 6-1). [RESULTS]

Prior to the 5th-place match, Cedarville blanked Emmanuel 5-0 in a rematch of their season-opening contest. The Jackets breezed through the doubles with points scored by Hartman and Dice; Berry and Flikweert, and Jared Michonski and Matt Michonski, who also won his #5 singles match. The other singles point came from Leman at #6. [RESULTS]

CU drops first two NCCAA matches
GREER, S.C. (5-10-2004) - North Greenville and Palm Beach Atlantic knocked off the Yellow Jackets by identical 5-1 scores during the first day of action at the NCCAA Nationals.

Tim Hartman and Dave Dice posted an 8-6 decision at #1 doubles against North Greenville. The Crusaders won the other two doubles matches and then wrapped up the contest with wins at #1, #2, and #6 singles. [RESULTS]

Against Palm Beach Atlantic, Hartman and Dice scored the lone CU point with a 8-5 win at #1 doubles. The Sailfish took a 2-1 lead into singles and then closed out the match with victories at #4, #5, and #6 singles. [RESULTS]
