Ashley Smith finished with school records for most triples in a season (11) and career (24).

Jackets finish season with two more shutouts
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (5-4-2004) - Natalie Fox fired a five-inning perfect game and Allie Smith followed with a two-hitter as Cedarville ended the season with back-to-back shutouts at Point Park. The Lady Jackets, who posted a school-record 16 shutouts for the season, won by scores of 11-0 and 8-0.

Fox tossed the second perfect game in school history and registered her second no-hitter of the season in the opener. She struck out six and faced the minimum 15 batters in notching her school-record 10th shutout of the campaign and 17th of her career. Offensively, CU hammered a season-high 15 hits. Katy Dellicarpini had three hits and four RBI's while Richelle Clem added three hits including a double. Jackie Greetham returned to the line-up with two hits. Ashley Smith and Courtney Brott went for two hits apiece. Ginger Keithley scored three runs and stole her league-leading 37th base. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

Game two was also halted after five innings due to the 8-run mercy rule. The Jackets made the most of five hits and used a seven-run 3rd inning to blow the contest open. Ashley Smith scored two runs and tripled to extend her school records for most three-baggers in a season (11) and career (24). Dellicarpini drove in two more runs and Allie Smith fanned three batters in picking up her sixth shutout. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

Fox, triple play highlight win over Walsh
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (4-26-2004) - Natalie Fox tossed a five-hitter and Cedarville turned a triple play during a 4-0 victory over Walsh in an American Mideast Conference South Division game. Cedarville was awarded a forfeit victory in the second contest when Walsh's head coach and assistant coach were ejected in the 1st inning and the Cavaliers chose not to continue the game. (AMC Commissioner's ruling made on 4/29/04)

Fox struck out 11 Cavaliers and did not walk a batter in posting her school-record ninth shutout of the season. The Jackets made two key defensive plays to preserve the team's 14th shutout.

The biggest came in the top of the 6th inning when Walsh had runners on 1st and 2nd with nobody out and trailing 3-0. CU left fielder Kailin Acheson picked off a sinking line drive, tossed to second baseman Tara Munson to double off the lead runner, who then flipped to first baseman Katy Dellicarpini to complete the triple play. The other defensive gem came when center fielder Ginger Keithley ended the game by throwing a runner out at the plate.

Ashley Smith, playing at home for the final time in her career, was 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI. Courtney Thayer doubled in a run and Keithley stole her league-leading 36th base of the season. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

Cedarville ousted from NCCAA
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (4-24-2004) - Indiana Wesleyan outlasted Cedarville, 1-0 in 10 innings, to eliminate the host Lady Jackets from the NCCAA Midwest Regional. Earlier in the day, Cedarville nipped Concordia, 2-1.

The Jackets had multiple opportunities to knock off Indiana Wesleyan. Cedarville stranded seven runners on base and four of those were left at third. Courtney Brott had two hits including a double while four other players had singles. Losing pitcher Natalie Fox went the distance with six strikeouts and no walks. The Wildcats, the home team on the scoreboard, won the game with a two-out double in the bottom of the 10th inning. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

Cedarville started the day by knocking off Concordia for the second time in the tournament and Allie Smith was the winning pitcher again. She tossed a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and a walk. Ashley Smith was 2-for-4 and she legged out an inside the park solo homer. Fox had two hits and Courtney Thayer drove in a run. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]
