Bonin heads CU scholar-athletes
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (6-15-2005) - Matt Bonin is one of three baseball players to earn scholar-athlete recognition for the 2005 season. The junior lefthanded pitcher was named an NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete as well as an American Mideast Conference Scholar-Athlete. Senior outfielder Mark Eisentrager and junior pitcher Phil Westenbarger were also honored by the NCCAA and AMC as scholar-athletes.

NAIA and AMC scholars included juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. The NCCAA minimum is a 3.40 GPA.

Lowe, Bonin named to All-AMC South 2nd Team
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-23-2005) - Senior designated hitter Jeff Lowe and junior lefthanded pitcher Matt Bonin have been named to the American Mideast Conference South Division Second Team for the 2005 season. They were recognized in voting by the league coaches.

Lowe batted a team-high .330 with one homer and 31 runs batted in for the Yellow Jackets. The West Liberty, Ohio native graduates with a .347 career batting average and a school record 130 RBI’s. Bonin, who is from Patton, PA, was 6-3 on the mound with a 3.31 earned run average. He struck out 73 batters in 68 innings for an average of 9.66 per 9 innings which led the AMC.

Travis Allen, a senior outfielder from Bakersfield, CA, and Richie Reeder, a sophomore third baseman from York, PA, were honorable mention. Allen hit .329 with a team-high 39 runs scored while Reeder batted .328 with 21 RBI’s. [ALL-AMC SOUTH DIVISION TEAM]

Jackets, Bears split AMC series
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (4-30-2005) - Matt Bonin won his fourth straight pitching decision and Cedarville split its four-game AMC South Division series with Shawnee State to end the season. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 8-1, and the visiting Bears rolled in the nightcap, 16-0.

Bonin, 6-3, surrendered a home run to the second batter he faced, escaped a bases loaded jam in the 1st inning, and stranded runners on second and third in the 2nd inning before settling down the rest of the way. CU scored three times in the 4th inning on RBI singles from Eric Marvin, Alex Pummell, and Tim Hubler. The Jackets blew it open with five runs in the 6th. Pete Kraus delivered a pinch hit two-run double and Jeff Lowe later banged a three-run double off the center field wall. Pummell was 3-for-3 in the game and Matt Houchin added two hits. The second game started off quietly, but Shawnee State sent 15 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning and scored 10 runs. The Bears pounded out 19 hits off of three Cedarville pitchers in the contest that was called after the 5th inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
