April 30, SHAWNEE STATE
Matt Bonin won his fourth straight pitching decision and Cedarville split its four-game AMC South Division series with Shawnee State to end the season. The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 8-1, and the visiting Bears rolled in the nightcap, 16-0. Bonin, 6-3, surrendered a home run to the second batter he faced, escaped a bases loaded jam in the 1st inning, and stranded runners on second and third in the 2nd inning before settling down the rest of the way. CU scored three times in the 4th inning on RBI singles from Eric Marvin, Alex Pummell, and Tim Hubler. The Jackets blew it open with five runs in the 6th. Pete Kraus delivered a pinch hit two-run double and Jeff Lowe later banged a three-run double off the center field wall. Pummell was 3-for-3 in the game and Matt Houchin added two hits. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The second game started off quietly, but Shawnee State sent 15 batters to the plate in the 2nd inning and scored 10 runs. The Bears pounded out 19 hits off of three Cedarville pitchers in the contest that was called after the 5th inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 29, SHAWNEE STATE
Kiel Boynton hurled a complete game and Jeff Lowe drove in three runs to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 10-3 win versus Shawnee State in the second game of an AMC South Division doubleheader. The visiting Bears grabbed the opener, 11-1. Boynton allowed eight hits, seven of which were singles, and struck out four with two walks en route to his first victory of the season. After giving up two runs in the top of the 3rd inning, the Jackets answered with six runs on just two hits in their half of the frame which included four walks and two hit batters. Lowe was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Richie Reeder doubled in two runs, Andrew Noble had two hits with two RBI’s, and Travis Allen and Tim Hubler scored two runs each. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE] Cedarville produced just one hit in the first game, a one-out single by Noble in the 5th inning, in a game that was halted after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Bears totaled 11 hits and scored six times in the 5th inning to put the contest away. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

April 26, URBANA
Cedarville defeated Urbana, 8-1, in an American Mideast Conference South Division game halted in the 6th inning due to rain. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was also postponed because of the weather. The two teams started game one 15 minutes early, but the rain moved in by the 3rd inning and conditions became unplayable after the Blue Knights batted in the 6th. The Yellow Jackets jumped on Urbana for three runs in the 1st. Travis Allen scored on a wild pitch. Matt Houchin tripled home Jeff Lowe and later scored on Richie Reeder’s RBI groundout. Winning pitcher Matt Bonin, 5-3, gave up an unearned run in the 3rd and then CU plated five unanswered runs in their next two at bats to blow it open. Allen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Lowe singled in two runs; Reeder was 1-for-3 with three RBI’s; and Houchin scored twice. Bonin allowed just three hits in six innings with six strikeouts and a pair of walks. [BOXSCORE]

April 19, MIAMI-MIDDLETOWN
Eric Marvin’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 6th inning gave Cedarville a 5-4 non-conference victory over Miami-Middletown. The 7-inning single game ended a five-game losing streak for the Yellow Jackets. Travis Allen tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the 1st inning to get CU on the board first. The ThunderHawks tied it with a run in the 3rd, but the Jackets answered with three runs. Richie Reeder singled in a run while Andrew Noble doubled in two more for a 4-1 lead. Miami-Middletown came back to knot the score 4-4 in the 6th inning. Alex Pummell opened the bottom of the inning with a double and pinch runner David Snow later scored on Marvin’s sacrifice fly. Allen and Jeff Lowe had two hits each. Tyler Owens, 2-3, was the winning pitcher in relief and Mark Gainer notched his second save of the season. [BOXSCORE]

April 18, at Rio Grande
Rio Grande took a pair of AMC South Division baseball games from the Yellow Jackets by scores of 6-4 and 13-3. It was a return trip to Rio for CU as the first two games of the four-game series were played back on Feb. 26. The Redmen held what appeared to be a comfortable 6-0 lead heading into the 7th inning of game one, but the Jackets made it close by scoring four times. Jeff Lowe delivered a two-run double and Matt Houchin followed with a two-run single to account for the final. That tandem had two hits each for CU, who had just six hits total. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, Cedarville plated three runs in the 2nd inning for a 3-0 lead. However, Rio Grande erupted for nine runs in their half of the frame to take control. The game was halted in the 5th inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. Lowe and Richie Reeder recorded two hits apiece. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 16, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE
Mount Vernon Nazarene pounded 24 hits total, including eight for extra bases, to sweep an AMC South Division doubleheader at Cedarville. The Cougars won by scores of 5-2 and 15-0. CU took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning of the opener. Travis Allen’s RBI double scored Tim Hubler and Jeff Lowe drove in Allen with a single. MVNU tied the contest with two runs in the 5th inning and won it with three more in the 6th. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The second game lasted just five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Mount Vernon Nazarene, who ripped 15 hits in the game, took command early with five runs in the 1st. The Yellow Jackets were held hitless and had only two base runners who reach via walks. April 15, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE
Matt Bonin tossed a complete game and Matt Houchin drove in three runs to lead the Jackets to a 5-2 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene for their first AMC South Division victory of the season. The Cougars took game two, 12-5. Bonin fanned seven batters and walked one while allowing five hits. Houchin, who was 2-for-2 in the game, delivered a big two-run single in the 5th inning when Cedarville broke a 2-2 tie with three runs. Travis Allen was 2-for-3 and Matt Totten doubled. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] CU had ideas of sweeping the twinbill after taking a 5-4 lead into the 5th inning in the second contest. However, MVNU scored eight unanswered runs to secure the win. Seven of the Cougars’ 13 hits went for extra bases. Richie Reeder was 2-for-3, Eric Marvin drove in two runs, and Jeff Lowe doubled and scored twice. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 14, WILMINGTON
Wilmington pulled away late in the game for a 6-2 victory at Cedarville in a non-conference game. The Quakers never trailed, but used a three-run 8th inning to break open what was a tight contest. Pete Kraus’ sacrifice fly scored Eric Marvin in the 4th inning to bring the Yellow Jackets within 3-1. Matt Totten singled home Travis Allen in the 7th to cut the deficit to one before Wilmington’s big inning. Jeff Lowe was 3-for-5 with a double. Marvin and Totten had two hits each. Matt Houchin was 2-for-3 with a double. [BOXSCORE]

April 12, at Kenyon
The Jackets struck for six runs in the 8th inning, but the comeback fell short in a 11-9 non-conference setback at Kenyon. The host Lords broke a 1-1 tie with four unearned runs in the 3rd inning. After Cedarville trimmed the deficit to 5-3, Kenyon scored four times in the 5th and added another run in the 6th for what looked like a commanding 10-3 advantage. The Jackets made it interesting with their six-run 8th which was highlighted by two-run singles delivered by Matt Totten and Richie Reeder. CU left the bases loaded and Kenyon added an insurance run in their half of the frame. Totten had three hits including a double while Travis Allen had three hits with two runs scored. They accounted for two-thirds of the Yellow Jackets’ nine hits. [BOXSCORE]

April 11, at Wittenberg
Wittenberg scored nine unanswered runs and went on to defeat Cedarville, 12-3, in a non-conference night game. Four of the Tigers’ 12 hits were doubles. Jeff Lowe’s sacrifice fly in the 1st inning scored Travis Allen to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead. Wittenberg took over with four runs in the 3rd inning and five more in the 4th. Cedarville’s offense consisted of seven singles from seven different players. The Jackets also stranded eight runners on base. [BOXSCORE]

April 9, MYERS
Cedarville brought its 10-game losing streak to a halt with a non-conference doubleheader sweep over visiting Myers. The Yellow Jackets won by scores of 9-5 and 11-0. CU spotted the Mustangs two runs in the 1st inning of game one, but then took the lead for good with three runs in the 3rd. The hosts put it away with four runs in the 5th and two more in the 6th. Richie Reeder was 3-for-4 with two RBI’s, Jeff Lowe was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI’s, Travis Allen was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and Matt Houchin tripled home a run and scored twice. Winning pitcher Matt Bonin, 3-3, allowed just two hits in six innings with seven K’s and three walks. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Jackets scored in all four of their at bats in the second game which was stopped in the 5th inning due to the 10-run mercy rule. Reeder was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Houchin was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Tim Hubler singled in two runs and brought in another with a perfect suicide squeeze. Winning pitcher Tyler Owens notched the shutout allowing four hits with three strikeouts and one walk. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 6, at Tiffin
Tiffin completed a four-game AMC South Division series sweep of the Yellow Jackets by grabbing both ends of a doubleheader for the second straight day. The Dragons came out on top by scores of 6-2 and 10-4. Cedarville erased a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the top of the 6th inning in the opener. Jeff Lowe scored on an error and Eric Marvin singled home Mark Eisentrager to knot the score, 2-2. However, Tiffin quickly responded with four runs in their half of the inning to account for the final. Marvin, who was 2-for-3, was the only CU player with multiple hits. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The host Dragons scored at least one run in every inning of game two thanks to six of their 11 hits going for extra bases. Alex Pummell’s RBI single in the 1st inning scored Matt Totten to give the Jackets the early lead. Tiffin answered with three runs in their half of the 1st and the visitors could get no closer than three runs the rest of the way. Pummell was 2-for-4 while seven other Yellow Jackets contributed singles. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 5, at Tiffin
Tiffin rallied from an eight-run deficit to complete an AMC South Division doubleheader sweep over the Yellow Jackets. The Dragons won by scores of 15-5 and 11-9. Cedarville had a 3-2 lead in the 4th inning of the opener, but Tiffin scored six runs in the bottom half of the frame and seven more in the 6th to end it due to the 10-run mercy rule. Matt Houchin was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI’s, Travis Allen was 2-for-4, and Matt Totten socked a two-run homer. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Yellow Jackets erupted for eight runs in their first at bat of the nightcap only to see the Dragons bounce back with two runs in the 1st inning and six more in the 2nd to tie it, 8-8. Tiffin broke a 9-9 deadlock with two runs in the 6th inning to win it. Jeff Lowe was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI’s, Eric Marvin was 2-for-3 with a double, Allen had two hits with a double and two RBI’s, and Houchin added a three-run double. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

April 4, OHIO DOMINICAN
Ohio Dominican overpowered the Yellow Jackets 9-0 and 13-3 in an American Mideast Conference South Division doubleheader. CU has dropped its last six games in a row. The Jackets managed just one hit in the opener - a single by Tim Hubler - and had only four runners reach base. A three-run homer in the 1st inning staked ODU to the early lead and the visitors took command with three runs in the 5th. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Cedarville got on the board first in the second contest with two runs in the 2nd inning on a suicide squeeze by Phil Buben and an RBI single by Kiel Boynton. The Panthers answered with six runs in the 3rd inning to steal the momentum. CU's other run came in the 4th on a groundout by Boynton. The Jackets had four singles total in the game. April 1, at Ohio Dominican
American Mideast Conference South Division leader Ohio Dominican shocked Cedarville twice in their last at bat to sweep a doubleheader. The Panthers won by scores of 4-3 in eight innings and 5-4. The Yellow Jackets held a 3-2 lead in the opener, but the Panthers tied it with a run in the 5th inning and then won it on a two-out wild pitch in the bottom of the 7th. Travis Allen was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Richie Reeder was also 2-for-4. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The nightcap was a tougher pill to swallow as Cedarville took a 4-1 advantage into the bottom of the 7th inning. After the first batter was retired, ODU rallied with a hit batter, walk, single, and a walk off grand slam. Jeff Lowe was 2-for-3 including a two-run homer. Tim Hubler was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI on a successful suicide squeeze play. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 30, at Indiana Wesleyan
Indiana Wesleyan roughed up Cedarville pitching for 22 total hits and swept a non-conference doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets. The Wildcats won by scores of 11-0 and 12-2 as both games were halted early due to the 10-run mercy rule. Cedarville scratched together just two hits in the opener. IWU ended the contest with seven runs in the 4th inning which climaxed on a grand slam home run. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The offense struggled in game two as well with only four hits. Travis Allen was 2-for-3 with a double. After giving up three runs in the first inning, the Jackets scored twice in the 2nd to cut the deficit to 3-2. However, the hosts scored two runs in their half of the frame and added five more in the 3rd inning to pull away. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

March 29, at Bluffton
Jeff Lowe scored on a passed ball in the 10th inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-6 non-conference victory at Bluffton. The two teams were scheduled to play at Cedarville, but the home turf was too soggy which allowed the Beavers to host the contest. CU starting pitcher Matt Bonin went the first six innings and struck out nine with just one walk before leaving with a 4-1 lead. The Jackets upped the margin to 6-1, but Bluffton rallied for two runs in the 8th inning and three more in the 9th to tie it. Lowe, who was 2-for-4 in the game with three runs scored, opened the 10th inning with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice by Eric Marvin, and then scored on the passed ball. Kiel Boynton picked up the save in relief of winning pitcher Jared Griest. Six of Cedarville’s nine hits went for extra bases including Lowe’s 10th-inning double. Mark Eisentrager had two hits with a triple, Richie Reeder added two hits with a double, Andrew Noble smacked a three-run double, Tim Hubler doubled with two RBI’s, and Eric Marvin produced a double. March 22, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH
NCAA Division III Mount St. Joseph racked up 11 hits, including four for extra bases, in an 8-4 non-conference victory at Cedarville. The Lions also took advantage of nine walks issued by Yellow Jacket pitchers, who also hit two batters. CU struck first in the 2nd inning on an RBI triple by Jeff Lowe and a sacrifice fly by Alex Pummell. Mount St. Joseph would go on to score eight unanswered runs before the Jackets added their final two runs in the bottom of the 8th which included an RBI double by Matt Houchin. Cedarville had just five hits total with singles coming off the bats of Travis Allen, Matt Totten, and Richie Reeder. [BOXSCORE]

March 17, NOTRE DAME (Ohio)
A six-run 5th inning propelled the Yellow Jackets to an 8-6 victory over Notre Dame College in the second game to gain a split of a doubleheader. The Falcons won the opener, 3-1. CU gave up four runs in the top of the 1st inning of the nightcap and trailed 5-2 entering the bottom of the 5th. However, the Jackets bounced back with their biggest scoring inning of the season to date. Alex Pummell doubled in two runs to make it 5-4, and one out later, Tim Hubler scored Jeff Lowe on a suicide squeeze to tie the contest. The Jackets grabbed the lead on a double steal with Mark Eisentrager crossing the plate. Matt Houchin and Richie Reeder drew bases loaded walks to complete the scoring. Houchin, Reeder, and Lowe had two hits apiece. Phil Westenbarger got the win in relief and Houchin picked up the save. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE] Losing pitcher Matt Bonin deserved a better fate in the opener after giving up two earned runs in six innings on four hits with seven strikeouts and just one walk. However, the offense mustered only six hits and left seven runners on base including three that were stranded at third. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE]

March 11, Geneva (at Fort Pierce, FL)
The Yellow Jackets and Geneva battled to an 8-8 tie in the final game of the spring break trip. The game was called after six innings due to the 2-hour 30-minute time limit. Cedarville rallied from an early three-run deficit to grab leads of 5-3; 6-5; and 8-6. However, the Golden Tornadoes rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to forge the deadlock. Eric Marvin was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI’s, and a run scored. Travis Allen doubled and scored while Mark Eisentrager also scored two runs. The Jackets used five pitchers in the game and the two teams combined to leave 19 runners on base. [BOXSCORE]

March 10, Davis & Elkins (at Fort Pierce, FL)
NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins held on to edge Cedarville, 3-2, in a non-conference game. Both teams managed seven hits and each committed two errors in the contest. The Yellow Jackets had hits from seven different players. Richie Reeder doubled in Matt Totten and Matt Houchin to bring CU within 3-2 in the top of the 5th inning. Jeff Lowe and Alex Pummell also produced doubles in the game. The Senators scored single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings off of losing pitcher Tyler Owens, who fanned four and walked one in six innings. [BOXSCORE]

March 10, Clarion (at Fort Pierce, FL)
NCAA Division II Clarion checked Cedarville’s bats on four hits en route to a 4-0 victory. The Golden Eagles, who scratched together five hits total, got all the runs they needed with a four-run 2nd inning. Matt Totten was 2-for-3 at the plate while Travis Allen and Richie Reeder added singles. Both teams stranded four base runners in the game. [BOXSCORE]

March 8, Pitt-Johnstown (at Fort Pierce, FL)
Andrew Noble double twice with three RBI’s and Matt Bonin threw a complete-game five-hitter to lead the Yellow Jackets to a 7-4 win over NCAA Division II Pitt-Johnstown. The Jackets broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning and then broke it open with four runs in the 4th. Bonin struck out seven and walked three in giving up three earned runs. Noble scored one run while Eric Marvin was 2-for-3 with two runs. Travis Allen had two hits with two runs scored, Richie Reeder tallied two hits, and Matt Totten had a pair of RBI’s. [BOXSCORE]

March 8, Geneva (at Fort Pierce, FL)
Geneva outslugged Cedarville, 8-7, in a non-league matchup of American Mideast Conference members. The Golden Tornadoes play in the AMC North Division while the Yellow Jackets are in the South. CU scored three times in the 1st inning to grab the early lead and still held a 5-3 advantage through four innings. Geneva took the lead for good with a four-run 5th inning. The teams combined for 21 hits, six errors, and 19 runners left on base. David Snow had two hits with two runs scored while Matt Houchin and Tim Hubler stroked two hits apiece. Richie Reeder doubled for the Jackets’ lone extra base hit. [BOXSCORE]

March 7, Walsh (at Babson Park, FL)
Walsh never trailed trailed in putting away the Yellow Jackets, 10-4, in a battle of American Mideast Conference schools. The AMC North Division Cavaliers hammered 13 hits against four CU pitchers. Cedarville battled back from a pair of three-run deficits to tie the score, 4-1, with two runs in the bottom of the 4th inning. Walsh responded with two runs in the 5th and four more in the 6th to clinch the win. Matt Totten had a pair of hits including a double. Eric Marvin and Travis Allen each added two hits, a run scored, and an RBI. [BOXSCORE]

March 7, Crown (at Lakeland, FL)
Alex Pummell and Travis Allen drove in the tying and winning runs as Cedarville scratched out a 2-1 victory over Crown in the Jackets’ first game of their spring break trip to Florida. The Storm broke a scoreless tie with a run in the top of the 5th inning before the Jackets answered with both runs in their half of the frame. Matt Houchin opened with a triple and scored on a base hit by Pummell. Pinch runner Matt Owens later scored on a sacrifice fly by Allen. Winning pitcher David Snow allowed an unearned run on two hits in six innings with five strikeouts. Mark Gainer faced three batters in the 7th inning to notch the save. [BOXSCORE]

Feb. 26, at Rio Grande
Rio Grande opened the American Mideast Conference South Division schedule by sweeping the Yellow Jackets, 5-2 and 4-1. Cedarville scored both of its runs in the opener in the 1st inning. Travis Allen led off with a single and later scooted home on a wild pitch. Richie Reeder doubled in Mark Eisentrager, yet the Jackets would finish the game with just three more hits. Allen was 3-for-4 at the plate. Matt Bonin pitched all six innings striking out seven batters with just one walk, but he was touched up for three homers by the Redmen. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the second game, Allen led off with a single and eventually scored on a double by Matt Totten. That’s all the scoring the Jackets would get as they scattered five singles the rest of the way. Allen and Matt Houchin recorded two hits each. Starting pitcher Derek Woloshyn went four innings in his CU debut with six strikeouts and two walks. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]

Feb. 19, Taylor (at Williamsburg, KY)
Matt Houchin belted a grand slam to highlight Cedarville’s 8-1 victory over Taylor for the Jackets’ first win of the season. The Trojans took the second game of the doubleheader, 7-5, to win two-of-three games in the non-conference weekend series played at Cumberland College. Richie Reeder’s two-run single in the 1st got the scoring underway. In the 4th, Tim Hubler’s RBI single drove in the first run while Jeff Lowe drew a bases loaded walk. Houchin’s long ball capped the six-run inning for an 8-0 lead. Starting pitcher Matt Bonin got the win after allowing one earned run on three hits in 5 2/3 innings with four strikeouts. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, four Cedarville errors led to four unearned Taylor runs. The Jackets recovered from an early 2-0 deficit to score three times in the top of the 3rd inning. However, the Trojans answered with five runs in their half of the frame to take command. Feb. 18, Taylor (at Williamsburg, KY)
Taylor erased a five-run deficit to post an 8-7 non-conference victory in the Yellow Jackets’ season opener. The contest was played at Cumberland College. Cedarville crossed the plate six times in the third inning for a 7-2 advantage, but that was the last time the Jackets would score. The Trojans came back late with a run in the 7th inning, three in the 8th, and two more in the bottom of the 9th inning to win it. Andrew Noble was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in. Jeff Lowe was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI which was the 100th RBI of his career. Travis Allen and Richie Reeder added two hits apiece to CU’s 11-hit attack. [BOXSCORE]
