2004-05 Season Outlook

The Yellow Jacket golf team seeks continued improvement and it is all the more possible this season with the return of the program’s top four players from last year. The linksters hope that translates into more consistent play which will lead to higher finishes during their tournament schedule.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can accomplish this year,” stated Ryan Bowen, who is in his fourth season as head coach. “We are still a young and improving team, with our top two guys being sophomores, and I'm looking for steady improvement in the fall and the spring. This year we are focusing on working hard, preparing well, and then being confident in our preparation enough to relax and have fun during the tournaments.”

Local product Adam Schlappi is the top returning golfer after averaging 78.4 strokes per 18 holes during his rookie season. The Cedarville High School grad quickly assumed the #1 spot on the team, was the only player to see action in all 17 rounds, and was a model of consistency with four of his scores at 76 or lower and the other 13 between 77 and 81.

“Adam Schlappi will once again lead our team this year,” Bowen declared. “He has the talent to take us to the next level.”

Travis Roach also assembled a notable rookie season in the #2 spot with an 80.7 average. He came on strong at the end of the year including one four-round stretch where he averaged 76.5.

Third-year player Aaron McDivitt has the game to shoot some low numbers. His 81.0 average as a sophomore featured eight rounds in the 70's including a career-low 74. Ben Foreman is the lone senior on the roster and averaged 82.6 in the #4 position.

Brent Martin, who put together an outstanding career at nearby Southeastern High School, heads the list of newcomers. Junior Travis Matthiesen as well as freshmen Dan Fuls and Dan Servi will also attempt to play their way into the top five.

"Travis Roach came on strong at the end of the spring season last year, and I'm looking for continued good play and consistency from him this year,” said Bowen in summary. “Ben Foreman, Aaron McDivitt, and Brent Martin will be key contributors to our team's success this year as well.

“The performance of the team will depend a lot on our 3rd and 4th scores. If we can improve just two or three strokes a man, we can start competing with the better teams in our conference.”

Cedarville continues to train on two of the most beautiful layouts in the Miami Valley - Country Club of the North and Beavercreek Golf Club. Another key addition for the Yellow Jackets is the opening of a brand new driving range and practice facility on campus. This will help the squad prepare for the NCCAA National Tournament in the fall and their full tournament schedule in the spring.
