NAIA DIVISION II TOURNAMENT INFORMATION

Mugabe Thomas
Mugabe Thomas was named to the NAIA Division II All-America Second Team.

Thomas named to NAIA All-America Team
OLATHE, Kansas (3-15-2005) - Junior forward Mugabe Thomas has been named to the NAIA Division II All-America Second Team for the 2004-05 season. He averaged team-highs of 16.8 points and 10.8 rebounds while leading Cedarville to the NAIA Final Four for the first time ever. He also earned a spot on the NAIA National All-Tournament Team. Senior guard Jason Weakley was All-America honorable mention.

Thomas is just the fourth Yellow Jacket men’s basketball player to earn NAIA All-America honors. All-time leading scorer Eric Mounts was chosen to the Third Team in 1981 when there was just one division. Ken Rucker (1993) and John Krueger (1999) were also Third Team selections when the Jackets participated in NAIA Division I. [NAIA DIVISION II ALL-AMERICA TEAM]

Concordia eliminates CU, 62-56
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. (3-14-2005) - No. 4 seed Concordia (Neb.) used solid defense and ball control offense to stifle No. 16 Cedarville, 62-56, in the semifinals of the 14th Annual NAIA Division II National Tournament. The Yellow Jackets’ longest tournament run in school history ends with a 28-10 overall record.

The 56 points scored matched CU’s offensive low for the season. The Jackets shot just 36 percent from the field for the game including a 4-for-21 showing outside the three-point arc for 19 percent.

Mugabe Thomas netted 14 points and was named to the all-tournament team. Anthony Delimpo finished his two-year Cedarville career by scoring 10 points while rookie guard Ryan Short added 10 points. It also marked the final game for senior guard Jason Weakley, who wrapped up his career as the school’s all-time assist leader with 565 to go along with 1,618 career points. [STATS]

Weakley, Cedarville head to NAIA semifinals
POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. (3-12-2005) - Jason Weakley hit a 10-foot jumper with 4.4 seconds to play as No. 16 seed Cedarville rallied to eliminate No. 8 Southern Oregon, 66-64, in the quarterfinals of the 14th Annual NAIA Division II National Tournament. The outcome places the Yellow Jackets in Monday’s semifinals at Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks for the first time in school history.

It was the third straight tightly contested assignment for CU. There were nine ties and four lead changes in the first half alone which culminated in a 35-35 deadlock at halftime. After trailing 64-60 with 2:30 remaining, the Jackets scored the final six points to win it. An Anthony Delimpo basket at the 2:15 mark was followed by a missed Raider three-pointer. Mugabe Thomas tied the contest with a basket at 1:02 on the clock and Southern Oregon misfired on another trey with 25 seconds to go which set up Weakley’s heroics.

Thomas’ 25 points and 13 rebounds was his 25th double-double of the season. Weakley tallied 12 points with 11 rebounds and Delimpo added 10 points. Cedarville's 28 victories set a new school record for most wins in a season breaking the mark of 27 set three times previously including the last two seasons. [STATS]
