Nine newcomers to join Jackets
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (8-8-2005) - CU track & field coach Jeff Bolender has announced that nine athletes have signed letters of intent to attend Cedarville University and compete for the Yellow Jackets.

The list included three cross country runners - Cedarville High School product Kevin Kuhn; Judson Brooker of Spring Mills, PA; and Jordan Seibert of Hilliard, OH. Kuhn was the Ohio Division III state runner-up in the 800 meters, Brooker was the regional 1,600 meter champion, and Seibert was the district runner-up in the 3,200.

Ben Michaud of Topsham, ME was a two-time outdoor state shot put champion at Cheverus High School. He also won the state indoor title once. Matt Fox of Bristol, CT is a hurdler from Eastern High School. Thurston, OH product Sam Howdyshell is a sprinter from Liberty Union High School where his team won three straight league titles and two consecutive district championships.

Another sprinter is Eric Anderson from Bridgewater/Raritan Regional High School in Pennsylvania. Peter Schmid was part of the 4 x 400 meter relay state championship team at Trout Lake (WA) High School. Fairfield, ME native Josh Saunders placed 2nd in the state indoor 800 meters while competing for Lawrence High School.

Smith NAIA All-American in high jump
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (5-28-2005) - Joel Smith wrapped up an outstanding high jump season by placing 3rd in the event to earn All-America status at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The 6-foot-2 junior, who also placed 3rd in the indoor national meet, cleared 6-feet 9.50-inches.

Defending pole vault champion Jason Scott struggled to a 7th-place tie with an effort of 16-0.75 and Jason Mattern did not clear the opening height. Scott was the only other CU athlete to score (top 8). Kevin Hall was 10th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:28.87. He reached the final thanks to a career-best effort of 9:25.30 in his heat of the prelims.

Tim Beck placed 15th in both the long jump (21-7.25) and javelin (182-7). Ryan Bundenthal posted a time of 54.48 seconds in the semifinals of the 400 meter hurdles after advancing with a 55.10 effort in the prelims. [COMPLETE RESULTS and PHOTO GALLERY]
