Justin Mattern returns for his third season as a pole vaulter for the Yellow Jackets.....American Mideast Conference runner-up outdoors at 13-feet 6-inches.....placed 4th at Muskingum with a season-best effort of 14-feet even.....jumped a career indoor best 14-feet even at Ohio Northern which placed 3rd. 2003 - Had a notable rookie season in which he was an NCCAA Outdoor All-American in the pole vault.....placed 2nd with a career-best effort of 14-feet 1.25-inches.....finished 4th in the AMC at 13-6.....best indoor performance was 13-9 which won the Denison Invitational.....5th in the NCCAA Indoor at 13-6. High School - Four-year letter winner in track & field at nearby Shawnee High School.....cleared a career-high 14-feet 6-inches.....tied for 12th in the state meet.....Clark County champion, district champion, and regional runner-up in the vault.....played four seasons of soccer with two letters.....team MVP his senior season as a goalkeeper and once made 30 saves in a match.....National Honor Society student. Personal - Carries a physical activities and sports studies major at Cedarville University.....born 2/3/84 in Springfield, OH.....son of Timothy and Debra Mattern.....older brother, Jason, is a senior pole vaulter with the Yellow Jackets.....has one younger brother.
