Joel Smith is back for his third season with the Yellow Jackets following an outstanding sophomore campaign in the high jump.....NCCAA outdoor champion with a winning leap of 6-feet 5.50-inches.....finished 3rd in the NCCAA Indoor Championship (6-6) for All-America recognition.....American Mideast Conference runner-up (6-6).....qualified for the NAIA Nationals both indoors and outdoors and finished 9th in both events by clearing 6-7.50 at each meet.....jumped a career-best 6-8.75 outdoors to place 3rd at the Miami Invitational.....cleared a career-best 6-8 indoors to win the DePauw Invitational. 2003 - Put together a notable rookie season with the Yellow Jackets competing in the hurdles, high jump, long jump, and triple jump..... cleared a season-best 6-feet 8-inches in the high jump at the Akron Open.....placed 4th in the NCCAA outdoor and indoor events with a 6-4 effort at both meets.....finished 3rd in the AMC Championship at 6-2.....winner indoors at Ohio Northern at 6-3.25.....competed at the NAIA National Championships both indoors and outdoors.....had a season-best time of 16.30 in the 110 meter hurdles.....best long jump was 19-9.50 and best triple jump was 42-2. High School - Assembled an outstanding track & field career at Heritage Christian High School in Milwaukee as a four-year letter winner.....placed 2nd in the Wisconsin Division II state meet in the high jump by clearing 6-6.....owns the school record in the event at 6-8.50.....also set school marks in the long jump (21-3) and 110 meter high hurdles (15.6).....competed in the 300 meter hurdles, triple jump, 4 x 100 relay, and the 4 x 400.....three-time all-conference first team performer and was named to the second team as a freshman.....selected to the All-Milwaukee Area First Team as a senior.....track & field team won three conference titles in a row.....played three seasons of basketball and lettered twice.....part of two conference championship teams on the hardwood. Personal - Carries an exercise science major at Cedarville University.....born 9/27/83 in Waukesha, WI.....son of Robert and Esther Smith.....has one younger brother.
