2004 Meet Recaps Nov. 20, at NAIA Nationals The Yellow Jackets wrapped up the season by placing 15th out of 28 teams at the NAIA Championships. Cedarville was the highest finisher among American Mideast Conference schools with 374 points. Dan Campbell led the way by placing 63rd out of 259 runners in a time of 26:18 for the 8,000 meters. Other Yellow Jackets to score were Kevin Hall (89th; 26:35), Micah Harding (96th; 26:38), Benjamin Shroyer (120th; 26:58), and Bryan Pittman (133rd; 27:06). [TEAM and INDIVIDUAL RESULTS] Junior Brad Miller was tabbed an NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete. The list honors juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. [NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES] Nov. 13, NCCAA NATIONALS Dan Campbell garnered All-America honors for the second straight year and the NAIA No. 14 Yellow Jackets finished 5th in the NCCAA Championships. MidAmerica Nazarene won its first-ever banner with 57 points while the rest of the top five included Malone, 70; Indiana Wesleyan, 76; Spring Arbor, 85; and Cedarville, 103. Campbell’s time in the 8,000 meters was 25:34 which placed 7th. The remaining Yellow Jackets were bunched together led by Benjamin Shroyer (21st; 26:28), Kevin Hall (24th; 26:37), Micah Harding (25th; 26:39), and Bryan Pittman (26th; 26:40). [NCCAA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES] Nov. 6, at American Mideast Conference Championship NAIA No. 14 Cedarville labored to a 3rd-place showing at the American Mideast Conference Championships. The Yellow Jackets, who totaled 84 points, finished behind champion and No. 18 ranked Malone (45) as well as runner-up and No. 25 Shawnee State (69). Micah Harding assembled an outstanding day as CU’s top finisher by placing 11th in 27:31 for the 8,000 meters. He earned a spot on the All-AMC Second Team. Dan Campbell was 15th in 27:37 and Kevin Hall placed 17th in 27:42. They were both AMC honorable mention. Justin Gutierrez was 20th while Bryan Pittman finished 21st. Both runners were credited with a time of 27:51. [AMC RESULTS and NAIA REGION IX RESULTS] Oct. 23, at Georgetown Classic NAIA No. 21 Cedarville made a strong showing at the Georgetown Classic by placing 3rd out of 22 schools in a meet laden with some of the top NAIA teams in the country. No. 1 ranked Virginia Intermont won the meet with 35 points, No. 10 Cumberland (Ky.) was 2nd with 94, the Yellow Jackets totaled 107, and No. 7 and 11-time defending AMC champion Malone was 4th at 119. Dan Campbell again set the pace for Cedarville by placing 11th in 26:34 for the 8,000 meters. Others to score for CU were Kevin Hall (20th; 27:05), Micah Harding (21st; 27:06), Benjamin Shroyer (27th; 27:16), and Justin Gutierrez (33rd; 27:32). [RESULTS] Oct. 8, at Ohio Intercollegiate Championship NAIA No. 17 Cedarville placed 14th out of 39 schools in the 50th Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championship. A total of 267 athletes participated in the 8,000 meter race. Dan Campbell again led the Yellow Jackets in 26:50 to finish 23rd overall. Kevin Hall was 48th in 27:24 and Benjamin Shroyer was 96th in 28:19. Others scoring for CU were Justin Herbert (111th; 28:34) and Bryan Pittman (142nd; 29:06). Ohio State placed eight runners in the top ten to easily win the team title with 38 points. Cincinnati was 2nd with 102 points while 3rd-place Kent State had 131. Cedarville totaled 417 points and was 4th among NAIA/NCAA Division II schools. [TEAM and INDIVIDUAL RESULTS] Sept. 25, at Louisville Classic Dan Campbell placed 15th out of 397 runners at the Louisville Classic where NAIA No. 21 Cedarville finished 10th as a team. Campbell’s time was 25:24 for the 8,000 meters. Kevin Hall came in 52nd overall in 26:11. CU’s other runners to score were Benjamin Shroyer (71st; 26:26), Justin Herbert (80th; 26:32), and Micah Harding (87th; 26:36). Louisville won the meet with 40 points and was followed by Rend Lake, 139, and Aquinas, 165. The Yellow Jackets totaled 289 points. The meet was held on the NAIA national championship course. [RESULTS] Sept. 18, 14th ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP INVITATIONAL The NAIA No. 18 Yellow Jackets ran to a 3rd-place finish at the 14th Annual Friendship Invitational at John Bryan State Park. NCAA Division III Otterbein captured the team title with 56 points, NCAA Division II Tiffin was a close 2nd with 62 points, while Cedarville totaled 77 points. There were 11 complete teams in the race. Defending champion Dan Campbell placed 5th in 25:30 to lead the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville’s other four runners to score were within eight positions of one another. The quartet included Kevin Hall (14th; 26:27), Benjamin Shroyer (16th; 26:34), Justin Herbert (20th; 26:44), and Micah Harding (22nd; 26:46). [RESULTS and PHOTO GALLERY] Sept. 11, at Bowling Green Invitational Dan Campbell was the overall individual champion and the NAIA No. 18 Yellow Jackets won the NCAA Division II/NAIA portion of the Bowling Green Invitational. Cedarville placed 4th out of 12 overall in the meet which also included schools from NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III. Campbell toured the 8,000 meters in 25:30 which was just seven seconds off of his career-best time. There were 142 total competitors in the race.
