2004 Match Recaps Dec. 3, Saint Mary (NAIA National Tournament) Saint Mary sent Cedarville home winless at the NAIA National Championship with a 3-1 victory over the Lady Jackets to wrap up pool play. The Flames came out on top 30-22, 25-30, 30-22, 30-25. Sarah Zeltman was good for 22 kills and two blocks. Julia Bradley buried 15 kills with three blocks and Richelle Clem closed out her career with nine kills and 16 digs. Kelsey Jones tallied 51 assists and 13 digs, Anne Lohrenz produced a team-high 19 digs, and Rachel Anderson added 13 digs. Cedarville finished the season with a best-ever 44-10 record. It was also the Jackets first-ever appearance at the NAIA Nationals. [STATS] Dec. 2, Iowa Wesleyan (NAIA National Tournament) Iowa Wesleyan swept past Cedarville, 3-0, during action on Day Two at the 25th Annual NAIA National Championship. The Tigers won by scores of 30-26, 30-20, 30-22 to finish 2-2 in pool play after upsetting #8 seed Madonna earlier in the day. Julia Bradley recorded 13 kills with one block and Sarah Zeltman had 11 kills and two blocks. Kelsey Jones was credited with 34 assists and six digs. Iowa Wesleyan hammered 60 kills with an impressive .450 attack percentage as a team compared to 40 kills for the Lady Jackets and a .252 accuracy. [STATS] Dec. 1, Fresno Pacific (NAIA National Tournament) Defending NAIA national champion and #1 seed Fresno Pacific held on to sweep the Lady Jackets 30-17, 31-29, 30-28. Julia Bradley had 11 kills and four blocks, Sarah Zeltman was checked on eight kills and three blocks, and Erica Paugh chipped in eight kills. Kelsey Jones chalked up 28 assists and Cedarville had a .975 receive percentage as a team with just two errors in 80 attempts. [STATS] Dec. 1, Madonna (NAIA National Tournament) NAIA Region IX champion opened their first-ever appearance at the NAIA National Championship with a 26-30, 30-28, 30-25, 30-24 setback to #8 seed Madonna. Sarah Zeltman pounded 29 kills with three blocks while Julia Bradley provided ample support at the net with 16 kills and five blocks. Kelsey Jones totaled 50 assists, Rachel Anderson led the back row with 23 digs, and Richelle Clem added 19 digs. [STATS] Nov. 20, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE (NAIA Region IX Tournament) The NAIA No. 25 Lady Jackets claimed their first-ever NAIA Region IX championship by knocking off No. 21 Mount Vernon Nazarene 30-26, 30-32, 30-22, 30-24 in the title match. The outcome sends Cedarville to the school’s first NAIA National Tournament appearance. Julia Bradley pounded 26 kills with four blocks. Sarah Zeltman ripped 23 kills to break the previous season school record of 755 set by Amy Zehr in 1992. The freshman middle hitter, who now has 771 kills, added six blocks. Erica Paugh and Richelle Clem produced 15 kills each, Kelsey Jones set up 68 assists, and Rachel Anderson had 34 digs. Clem added 28 digs to break the old school record of 780 set by Suzanne Lehman in 1998. It was the fifth match of the season between the two AMC South Division rivals with CU winning the two league matches and the Cougars winning at the NCCAA Nationals and AMC Tournament. The Jackets completed the home season with a 17-0 record in the Callan Athletic Center and they’ve won 20 straight dating back to last year. [STATS] Nov. 20, WALSH (NAIA Region IX Tournament) Cedarville eliminated Walsh with a 30-27, 33-31, 27-30, 30-27 decision in the NAIA Region IX semfinals. Sarah Zeltman buried 20 kills with Julia Bradley and Erica Paugh coming through with 19 each. Kelsey Jones tallied 59 assists, Richelle Clem recorded 30 digs, and Rachel Anderson added 17 digs. [STATS] Nov. 19, MAINE-MACHIAS (NAIA Region IX Tournament) NAIA No. 25 Cedarville began NAIA Region IX Tournament action with an easy 3-0 victory over Maine-Machias in the Callan Athletic Center. The host Lady Jackets cruised by scores of 30-3, 30-11, 30-10. Julia Bradley put away 13 kills while Erica Paugh added nine. Sarah Zeltman served up a school-record 13 aces and CU equaled the school mark as a team with 22 aces. Kelsey Jones finished with 34 assists. Cedarville also set school single-match records for team attack percentage (.741) and team assist percentage (.750). [STATS] Nov. 13, Mount Vernon Nazarene (AMC Tournament) Eventual champion Mount Vernon Nazarene defeated the NAIA No. 18 Lady Jackets for the second time in a week and sent CU home after just one match in the American Mideast Conference Tournament. The Cougars won the semifinal by scores of 24-30, 30-20, 30-22, 32-30. Julia Bradley recorded 20 kills to lead the attack. Richelle Clem posted 18 kills and 30 digs while Sarah Zeltman had 14 kills and 20 digs. Kelsey Jones tallied 52 assists and 24 digs with Rachel Anderson coming up with 29 digs. AMC South Division champion Cedarville had swept the Cougars twice during the league schedule. But MVNU dumped the Jackets in an NCCAA pool play match just one week earlier before eliminating them from the AMC event. [STATS] Nov. 8, SHAWNEE STATE NAIA No. 16 Cedarville wrapped up an unbeaten American Mideast Conference South Division season with a 30-18, 30-24, 30-21 victory over Shawnee State. It’s the third straight year that the AMC South winner has gone 16-0 in league play following Walsh’s back-to-back accomplishments in 2002 and 2003. Julia Bradley tallied 15 kills, Sarah Zeltman had 14, and Erica Paugh produced 11. Kelsey Jones came through with 45 assists and 11 digs. Richelle Clem, the lone senior on the roster playing in her final regular season home contest, had a team-high 15 digs while Rachel Anderson chipped in 11. [STATS] Nov. 6, at Palm Beach Atlantic (NCCAA National Tournament) Host and eventual national champion Palm Beach Atlantic rallied to oust Cedarville from the NCCAA National Tournament, 3-2, in the semifinals. The Sailfish won by scores of 30-25, 23-30, 28-30, 30-25, 15-12. Julia Bradley hammered 22 kills with five blocks, Erica Paugh added 22 kills, and Sarah Zeltman had 18 kills and eight blocks. Kelsey Jones totaled 63 assists. Richelle Clem led the digs department with 43 while Anne Lohrenz had 23 and Rachel Anderson chipped in 21. [STATS] Nov. 5, Mount Vernon Nazarene (NCCAA National Tournament) The No. 2 seed Lady Jackets advanced to the NCCAA semifinals as the top seed in their pool despite a 3-1 loss to fellow American Mideast Conference South Division member Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Cougars, who had lost both league matches to Cedarville this season, knocked off the Jackets 31-29, 30-23, 27-30, 30-18. Julia Bradley racked up 25 kills and four blocks while Sarah Zeltman was good for 22 kills and four blocks. Richelle Clem had 25 digs and Kelsey Jones turned in 54 assists. Jones, Rachel Anderson, and Anne Lohrenz each added 13 digs. [STATS] Nov. 5, Hope International (NCCAA National Tournament) The No. 2 seed Lady Jackets won their 40th match of the season and improved to 3-0 at the NCCAA Championships with a 3-1 win over No. 7 Hope International. Cedarville posted a 30-25, 30-28, 29-31, 30-23 victory. It was another balanced attack that propelled CU to their 24th win in their past 25 matches. Sarah Zeltman buried 21 kills and Julia Bradley provided 18. Both middle hitters came through with six blocks each. Erica Paugh added 12 kills and Richelle Clem had 11 kills with 29 digs. [STATS] Nov. 4, Oakland City (NCCAA National Tournament) No. 2 seed Cedarville swept No. 10 Oakland City in their opener at the NCCAA Volleyball Championships. The NAIA No. 16 Lady Jackets were 30-11, 30-14, 30-18 winners for their 22nd victory in the last 23 matches. Julia Bradley and Sarah Zeltman buried 13 kills each and Bradley added five blocks to her credit. Richelle Clem provided 11 kills and 13 digs, Anne Lohrenz had 14 digs, and Kelsey Jones handed out 40 assists. The Jackets face No. 6 Bethel later tonight. [STATS] Nov. 2, at Ohio Dominican The NAIA No. 16 Lady Jackets remained perfect in the American Mideast Conference South Division with a three-game sweep at Ohio Dominican. Cedarville won by scores of 30-21, 30-22, 30-25. Erica Paugh pounded 17 kills to lead a balanced attack. Sarah Zeltman put away 14 kills, Richelle Clem combined for 11 kills and 10 digs, and Julia Bradley recorded 10 kills and seven blocks. Kelsey Jones was credited with 46 assists. [STATS] Oct. 30, Taylor (at Walsh) The NAIA No. 19 Lady Jackets outlasted No. 13 Taylor 30-28, 18-30, 30-28, 24-30, 15-12 in a non-conference match played at Walsh. Sarah Zeltman paced four players in double figures with 21 kills to go with five blocks. Erica Paugh drilled 15 kills, Julia Bradley tallied 13, and Richelle Clem had 11 with a team-high 33 digs. [STATS] Oct. 30, at Walsh NAIA No. 19 Cedarville swept host Walsh 32-30, 30-28, 30-23 to wrap up the American Mideast Conference South Division title. It's CU's first league championship in six years. Freshman middle hitter Sarah Zeltman pounded 18 kills and had six blocks. Julia Bradley added 17 kills and became the 12th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills. Kelsey Jones totaled 45 assists, Richelle Clem had 20 digs, and Anne Lohrenz and Rachel Anderson chalked up 17 digs each. The Lady Jackets also broke the previous school record for the most victories in a season (34) which was set in 1989. [STATS] Oct. 29, at Malone Sarah Zeltman hammered a career-high 27 kills and NAIA No. 19 Cedarville rallied for a 3-2 victory at Malone to clinch at least a share of the American Mideast Conference South Division title. The Lady Jackets won by scores of 27-30, 30-23, 28-30, 30-28, 15-13. The 34 victories ties the school record for the most wins in a season first set back in 1989. The Jackets had to rally, however, to reach the milestone. After winning the fourth game to square the match at two games apiece, CU fell into an 11-4 hole in the fifth and deciding game before mounting the comeback. Julia Bradley buried 20 kills and turned away seven blocks. Richelle Clem moved out of her libero position to fill in for Lauren Mable, who had to sit the match out with illness, and she responded with 20 kills and 26 digs. Kelsey Jones handed out 67 assists with 22 digs. [STATS] Oct. 26, CENTRAL STATE NAIA No. 19 Cedarville surrendered just 21 points total in a non-conference sweep over Central State in the Callan Athletic Center. The Lady Jackets won by scores of 30-8, 30-5, 30-8. CU put away 43 kills as a team with just three errors in 79 attempts for a .506 attack percentage to go along with 18 service aces. Julia Bradley paced a balanced attack with 11 kills and was followed by Sarah Zeltman and Erica Paugh with nine apiece, and Lauren Mable had eight with eight digs. Rachel Thompson handled the setter position and tallied 38 assists. Richelle Clem served up five aces. [STATS] Oct. 22, at Indiana Wesleyan (NCCAA Midwest Region Championship) Indiana Wesleyan avenged an earlier loss to NAIA No. 16 Cedarville by defeating the Yellow Jackets, 3-1, in the NCCAA Midwest Region championship match. CU, ranked No. 1 in the latest NCCAA poll, must wait to see if they receive an at-large bid to next month’s national tournament. Cedarville had swept the Wildcats in three straight games on their court back in September. This time, IWU dropped the first game only to rally for a 27-30, 31-29, 30-27, 30-16 victory to earn the region’s automatic berth to the NCCAA Nationals. The outcome ends the Jackets school-record tying 16-match winning streak. Ironically, CU opened the season with 16 straight wins only to lose twice on Indiana Wesleyan’s court on the same day last month to nationally-ranked Cornerstone and Georgetown. Sarah Zeltman tallied 16 kills and five blocks for the Jackets. Erica Paugh had 11 kills, Julia Bradley recorded 10, and Lauren Mable produced 10 kills with 26 digs. [STATS] Oct. 19, at Urbana The NAIA No. 16 Lady Jackets matched their season-opening school-record 16-match winning streak by holding off Urbana, 3-1, to remain unbeaten in the American Mideast Conference South Division. Cedarville, playing for the first time in a week, came out on top 30-24, 25-30, 30-17, 32-30. The Jackets, who have lost only once in 50 meetings with the Blue Knights, found themselves in a battle after splitting the first two games. CU easily won the third, but then trailed 25-20 in the fourth game. The visitors rallied and then clinched the match on Lauren Mable’s ace, which tied the school’s career mark of 182 service aces. Sarah Zeltman tallied 23 kills and seven blocks, and Julia Bradley provided 15 kills with four blocks. Erica Paugh hammered 14 kills, Mable had 10 kills with 27 digs, Kelsey Jones totaled 59 assists and 18 digs, and Richelle Clem added 19 digs. Kelsey Jones set up 55 assists and recorded 13 digs. Richelle Clem paced the back row with a team-high 14 digs. The Lady Jackets extended their winning streak to 15. They opened the season by winning a school-record 16 matches in a row. [STATS] Oct. 11, at Shawnee State NAIA No. 15 Cedarville made it 30 wins for the season and 14 victories in a row with a three-game sweep at Shawnee State in an American Mideast Conference South Division match. The Lady Jackets rolled to a 30-11, 30-16, 30-20 decision which gives them 30 victories for the ninth time in school history and the fourth time under head coach Teresa Clark. Sarah Zeltman controlled the net by pounding 15 kills with five blocks. Julia Bradley came through with 13 kills and three blocks; Lauren Mable provided 12 kills and 12 digs; Richelle Clem chipped in with 14 digs; and Kelsey Jones contributed 45 assists. The 30 victories is only four shy of the school record set back in 1989 when the Jackets went 34-13. Cedarville still has more than a month left in the season, including tournaments, to surpass the mark. [STATS] Oct. 9, CAMPBELLSVILLE Sarah Zeltman totaled 17 kills and nine blocks in a 30-23, 30-18, 29-31, 30-21 win for the NAIA No. 15 Lady Jackets versus Campbellsville. It was CU's 13th straight victory. Julia Bradley came through with 14 kills and five blocks with Erica Paugh adding 11 kills. Kelsey Jones supplied 46 assists and Lauren Mable had 20 digs. [STATS] Oct. 9, MALONE NAIA No. 15 Cedarville dumped Malone 30-17, 30-25, 30-28 in an American Mideast Conference match. Sarah Zeltman again led the play at the net with 15 kills and seven blocks. A boisterous crowd of over 800 fans turned out in the Callan Athletic Center to watch the Lady Jackets pull off a 30-27, 24-30, 30-24, 37-35 victory. The outcome, CU’s 11th consecutive win, ended a 10-match losing streak to the three-time defending NAIA Region IX champions dating back to 1998. It didn’t come without a tussle. The Jackets led throughout what was a tight first game and then Walsh finished game two with a 9-1 run to square the match. The hosts jumped out to a big lead and never looked back in the third game before repeatedly holding off the Cavaliers late in game four to post the win. Freshman Sarah Zeltman hammered 21 kills and turned back six blocks to lead the way while Julia Bradley buried 18 kills with five blocks. Erica Paugh recorded 14 kills, Lauren Mable totaled 11 kills and 33 digs, and Kelsey Jones was credited with 59 assists. Lauren Mable pounded 18 kills in the win. Julia Bradley tallied 12 kills and Erica Paugh added 10. Kelsey Jones had 48 assists with 20 digs while Richelle Clem also recorded 20 digs. [STATS] Sept. 10, Daemen (at Saint Vincent Invitational) Julia Bradley and Sarah Zeltman drilled 18 kills each as Cedarville outlasted Daemen 30-22, 31-33, 30-17, 28-30, 15-9 at the Saint Vincent Invitational. Kelsey Jones finished with 54 assists, Lauren Mable was good for 11 kills and 26 digs, and Richelle Clem contributed 21 digs. [STATS] Sept. 7, at Tiffin Julia Bradley and Sarah Zeltman pounded 16 kills each to lead NAIA No. 20 Cedarville to a three-game sweep at Tiffin in their American Mideast Conference South Division opener. It’s the first 9-0 start in head coach Teresa Clark’s nine-year tenure. The winning scores for the Lady Jackets were 30-15, 30-18, 30-15. AMC Setter of the Week Kelsey Jones registered 37 assists. [STATS] Sept. 4, GRACE (17th Annual Cedarville Invitational) All-Tournament choice Julia Bradley slammed 17 kills in a 30-18, 30-9, 30-16 championship match victory over Grace. It's the first time the Jackets won their own tournament since 1998. Lauren Mable had 10 kills and 21 digs. Kelsey Jones handed out 45 assists and Sarah Zeltman totaled five blocks. The threesome joined Bradley on the all-tournament squad. [STATS] Sept. 4, TRINITY INTERNATIONAL (17th Annual Cedarville Invitational) Cedarville swept defending champion Trinity International in the semifinals by a 30-22, 30-14, 30-17 count. Sarah Zeltman and Erica Paugh recorded 13 kills apiece. Kelsey Jones racked up 39 assists and 18 digs with Lauren Mable and Anne Lohrenz adding 14 digs each. [STATS] Sept. 3, SAINT VINCENT (17th Annual Cedarville Invitational) Lauren Mable pounded her 1,000th career kill and the Jackets defeated Saint Vincent 30-19, 30-22, 30-18 in the first round of the 17th Annual Cedarville Invitational. She becomes the 11th player in Lady Jacket volleyball history to surpass 1,000 kills. Julia Bradley led the way with 17 kills and Sarah Zeltman tallied 14. Kelsey Jones had 46 assists and 14 digs. Mable registered 19 digs and Anne Lohrenz added 14. [STATS] Aug. 28, at Master's (at Master's Classic) Erica Paugh and Julia Bradley buried 16 kills each to lead Cedarville to a 3-1 victory at Master’s to complete a perfect four-match run through the season-opening Master’s Classic. [STATS] Aug. 27, Northwest (at Master's Classic) Sarah Zeltman hammered 24 kills as the Jackets bounced back for a 23-30, 30-16, 30-23, 30-21 win versus Northwest at The Master's Classic. Julia Bradley added 16 kills to the attack. Kelsey Jones totaled 56 assists and 16 digs, Lauren Mable had 22 digs, and Anne Lohrenz contributed 15 digs for Cedarville, 2-0. [STATS] Aug. 27, Christian Heritage (at Master's Classic) Julia Bradley was comfortable in her home state of California with 15 kills and four blocks in a 30-22, 30-23, 30-17 decision against Christian Heritage in the season opener at The Master's Classic. It was the first win for CU over the Hawks in five tries. Heralded freshman Sarah Zeltman made her collegiate debut with 11 kills.
