Martin signs three newcomers
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (7-18-2005) - Cedarville University women’s basketball coach Kirk Martin has signed three players to letters of intent to continue their education at the school and play basketball for the Lady Jackets.

Emily Noble, a six-foot post player, was a four-year starter at Franklin (Ohio) High School where she scored 1,046 career points. She was a three-time All-Mid-Miami League First Team selection and was the conference Player of the Year as a senior after averaging 17.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Noble, whose older brother Andrew is a three-year letter winner on the CU baseball team, was also the District 15 and Middletown Journal Player of the Year.

Bayley Nosal, a 5-4 guard from Kenston (Ohio) High School, started all four years of her career while scoring 1,031 points. The Chagrin Falls native was named to the All-Ohio Division II Third Team as a senior along with being tabbed the Western Reserve Conference Player of the Year. Nosal, who averaged 15.6 points and 5.0 assists last winter, was a three-time All-WRC First Team pick.

Brittany Beals, a 5-6 guard from Worthington (Ohio) Christian High School, hopes to rejuvenate her basketball career after missing her senior season with knee injuries. She was a three-year letter winner and played in the regional final all three seasons. As a junior, Beals was All-Ohio Division III honorable mention and was named to the All-Mid-Buckeye Conference First Team.

Flunker, Smart named to NAIA All-America First Team
OLATHE, Kansas (3-15-2005) - Cedarville University guards Kari Flunker and Brittany Smart have been named to the NAIA Division II All-America First Team for the 2004-05 season. They were two of ten players selected to the elite group after leading the Lady Jackets to a 35-2 record and a second straight national runner-up finish.

Flunker, a 5-foot-7 senior from Florence, Wis., averaged 17.9 points and 4.8 assists while being voted the American Mideast Conference Player of the Year for the second straight time. It’s also the second consecutive year she landed a spot on the All-America First Team after being chosen to the Second Team as a sophomore. Flunker graduates as Cedarville’s all-time leader in eight statistical categories including scoring with 2,275 points.

Smart, a 5-9 sophomore from Springfield, Ohio, paced the Lady Jackets in scoring at 21.8 points per game while grabbing 6.6 rebounds per contest. She also shot a team-high 57 percent from the field. Smart, who was presented the NAIA Hustle Award at the national tournament, scored a school-record 805 points this season and already ranks 10th on CU’s all-time scoring list with 1,379 career points.

Morningside downs CU in NAIA title game for second straight year
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (3-15-2005) - Hometown Morningside, playing before a partisan crowd of more than 6,000, beat Cedarville for the second straight year in the NAIA Division II championship game, 75-65. The Lady Jackets, who complete the season with a 35-2 record, had their 22-game winning streak snapped.

Cedarville took an early 15-10 lead only to see the Mustangs respond with 10 unanswered points. The Jackets recovered for a 20-20 tie, but the hosts scored seven straight points and never surrendered the lead. CU’s largest deficit was 61-47 with 8:35 remaining and the closest they got was 69-64 with 47.2 seconds to go. The 65 points scored was the lowest offensive output for a game this season.

Brittany Smart scored 21 points while Emily Delimpo added 18 points with a career-high 20 rebounds. Smart was named the Hustle Award recipient and was joined on the All-Tournament First Team by Kari Flunker. Delimpo was a Second Team choice. Flunker wraps up an outstanding career as Cedarville’s all-time leader in eight statistical categories including most points scored with 2,275. Smart scored a school record 805 points for the season. CU dominates All-AMC South Team
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (3-3-2005) - Senior guard Kari Flunker repeated as the American Mideast Conference Player of the Year and Kirk Martin was tabbed Coach of the Year for the third straight time in voting by the league’s coaches.

Flunker guided the Lady Jackets, 31-1 and ranked No. 1 in NAIA Division II, to their third straight AMC title. She averages 18.3 points per game and is CU’s 2nd all-time leading scorer with 2,198 career points.

Three teammates join Flunker on the 10-player All-AMC South Division First Team. The trio includes sophomore wing Brittany Smart, who leads the team with 21.3 points per game; sophomore point guard Karah Walton, who adds 9.6 points and 4.5 assists; and junior center Emily Delimpo, who scores 12.9 points with a team-high 8.2 rebounds.
