Nov. 22, Chowan (NCCAA National Tournament)
Jane Adams ended her outstanding career with two goals, but the Lady Jackets fell, 3-2, to Chowan in the NCCAA consolation match. The Braves netted the game’s final two goals to rally for the victory. Chowan scored in the 5th minute to take the early lead. Adams scored in the 38th minute from Abby Price and Katie Thompson to knot the match at 1-1. Her unassisted goal in the 48th minute gave Cedarville the lead. However, the Braves tied the contest in the 61st minute and tallied the game winner 11 minutes later. Jessica Balser made five saves in her final match in goal. Adams finished the 2004 campaign with schools records of 21 goals and 19 assists for 61 points which wiped out her old school mark of 35 points scored in a single season. She also holds Cedarville’s career records for goals scored (53), assists (44), and points (150). [STATS]

Nov. 20, Trinity International (NCCAA National Tournament)
No. 2 seed Trinity International advanced to the NCCAA national championship match by edging Cedarville, 2-1, in the semifinals. The Lady Jackets move on to the consolation match for the second time in as many NCCAA appearances. The Trojans, last year’s runner-up, bolted to a 2-0 advantage with goals in the 16th and 35th minutes. Cedarville’s Karen Ruhlman scored from Jane Adams in the final minute of the period to account for the 2-1 final. Neither team was able to dent the scoring column in the final 45 minutes. Nov. 19, Dallas Baptist (NCCAA National Tournament)
Chelsea Casto scored two goals and Jane Adams had three assists as No. 3 seed Cedarville opened play at the NCCAA National Tournament with a 5-0 victory over No. 6 Dallas Baptist. Adams set up Lisa Blackburn for a goal in the 6th minute to give the Lady Jackets all the offense they would need. Candace Jelinek scored four minutes later from Abby Price, and Casto made it 3-0 at the intermission on a goal in the 37th minute from Karen Ruhlman. Adams was credited with assists on the final two goals in the 85th minute by Casto and the 87th minute by Ruhlman. Jessica Balser made nine saves while notching her fifth shutout of the season. Nov. 6, GRACE (NCCAA Midwest Region Championship)
Lisa Blackburn scored two goals and the Lady Jackets made history with a 4-0 victory over Grace in the NCCAA Midwest Region championship game. It’s the first title of any kind in the eight-year history of Cedarville women’s soccer. Candace Jelinek netted the game’s first goal in the 20th minute on an assist from Laura Radcliffe. CU took a 2-0 lead into the intermission when Blackburn registered her first tally in the 43rd minute with Jane Adams assisting. Karen Ruhlman picked off a Lancer goal kick and fed Blackburn for another goal in the 71st minute. Erin Baranski completed the scoring when she finished a cross from Adams in the 84th minute. The Jackets outshot Grace 16-5 overall and 9-2 in shots on goal. The hosts also were awarded 11 corner kicks to just one for the Lancers. Jessica Balser made two saves in goal and Sarah Gibson played the final three minutes without facing a shot. Cedarville, who was the regional runner-up in each of the last three seasons, will actually be making their second appearance at the NCCAA National Tournament. The Jackets received an at-large berth in 2000. [STATS]

Oct. 30, at Houghton (AMC Qualifying Tournament)
NAIA No. 8 Houghton used its patented suffocating defense to shut down Cedarville, 4-0, in the American Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament. The Lady Jackets will continue their season in the upcoming NCCAA Midwet Regional. Houghton scored three times in a span of 12 minutes midway through the first half. The Highlanders’ final tally came in the 63rd minute. The hosts outshot Cedarville 19-6 overall and 16-3 in shots on goal. Houghton, now 17-0, has allowed just three goals the entire season.

Oct. 26, SHAWNEE STATE
Jane Adams fired in three goals and Cedarville earned a berth in the American Mideast Conference Qualifying Tournament with a convincing 6-0 win over Shawnee State in AMC South Division action. The victory sends the Lady Jackets to NAIA No. 8 Houghton in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year. Adams continued to pad her season and career scoring records with an unassisted goal in the 5th minute to get things going. Katie Mariani scored her first collegiate goal in the 18th minute when she redirected a cross from Laura Radcliffe into the back of the net. Leading 2-0 at the intermission, CU came out quickly in the second half. Adams buried a penalty kick in the 49th minute followed by her 19th goal of the campaign three minutes later. Nicole James set up Krista Watson for her first goal of the season in the 71st minute and Lisa Blackburn completed the scoring when she banged home her own rebound in the 81st minute. Jessica Balser and Sarah Gibson combined for the shutout in goal. CU finished the regular season 4-0-1 in their last five matches and scored 23 goals in the process. Adams has scored a goal in seven consecutive games and has 12 total during the streak. [STATS]

Oct. 23, PALM BEACH ATLANTIC
Jane Adams scored a goal in her sixth straight match and added two assists to lead the Lady Jackets to a 4-0 non-conference win over Palm Beach Atlantic in a match halted early due to the weather. The contest was called after 70 minutes, the length for a match to be declared official, because of lightning. Four separate Cedarville players scored goals with Lisa Blackburn netting the first on an assist from Adams in the 22nd minute. That assist, Adams’ 12th, set a new school record for a single season. Karen Ruhlman set up Adams for her team-leading 16th goal in the 27th minute. It was 3-0 at the intermission after Candace Jelinek scored from Adams in the 33rd minute. Laura Radcliffe needed just 55 seconds into the second half to tally unassisted. Cedarville outshot the NCAA Division II Sailfish, 19-3, including an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Jessica Balser made three saves while notching her fourth shutout.

Oct. 19, at Urbana
Cedarville’s offense came unleashed as seven different Lady Jackets scored in a surprisingly easy 7-1 win at Urbana in an American Mideast Conference South Division match. Over the course of the last eight matches, Jane Adams had scored every CU goal but one and she assisted on that one. This time, the Jackets produced a balanced attack and bolted out to a 5-0 halftime lead starting off with an unassisted score by Laura Radcliffe in the 8th minute. Adams answered three minutes later with her school-record 15th goal of the season while Candace Jelinek made it 3-0 in the 18th minute on an assist from Katie Mariani. Karen Ruhlman scored from Adams in the 31st minute and Nicole James netted the fifth goal with 2:32 left in the period with Abby Price assisting. Urbana erased the shutout nine minutes into the second half, but Amanda McCormick hooked in a corner kick in the 59th minute for her first collegiate goal. Lisa Blackburn accounted for the final score with a goal in the 70th minute on an assist from Adams which tied the school record of 11 assists in one season. CU outshot the Blue Knights by a convincing 31-6 margin overall and 23-3 in shots on goal. Jessica Balser made two saves in goal and Sarah Gibson logged the final 15 minutes without having to face a shot.

Oct. 15, at Walsh
Jane Adams scored two goals to rally the Lady Jackets to a 2-2 tie at Walsh in an American Mideast Conference match. Cedarville has never lost to the Cavaliers in eight meetings going 6-0-2 in the season series. It appeared the streak might be halted after Walsh scored twice in the first half. The Cavs hit the back of the net in the 26th and 43rd minutes to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Adams went to work in the second half with an unassisted goal in the 50th minute. She tied the match in the 72nd minute on an assist from Laura Radcliffe. Adams’ 14 goals on the season ties the school record that she matched in 2000 which was first set by Allison Hume in 1998. The senior forward, who also has a team-leading nine assists, set a new school record for the most points in a season with 37. Adams had the previous mark of 35 that she reached during each of her first two seasons. [STATS]

Oct. 9, TAYLOR
Jane Adams scored three goals and assisted on another to lead Cedarville to a 4-1 non-conference victory over Taylor. The outcome ended a four-match losing streak for the Lady Jackets. Adams scored eight minutes into the contest, but the Trojans tied the match in the 12th minute. The senior forward struck again in the 20th minute on an assist from Amanda McCormick to make it 2-1. The Jackets maintained the slim advantage until Adams, who is already CU’s all-time leading scorer, completed the “hat trick” with a goal in the 75th minute. She helped complete the scoring when she placed a perfect pass to Lisa Blackburn, who tapped the ball into the open net in the 86th minute. Adams’ effort is the ninth time a Lady Jacket has scored at least three goals in a game, but she is the only player to do it twice. She netted three goals in a match as a freshman at Ohio Dominican. Oct. 5, at Mount Vernon Nazarene
Mount Vernon Nazarene scored three goals in a six-minute span late in the second half to knock off the Lady Jackets, 4-1, in American Mideast Conference South Division action. The outcome keeps Cedarville winless in five tries versus the Cougars. Jane Adams put the Jackets on the board first with her team-leading ninth goal in the 26th minute. It was assisted by Abby Price. However, the two teams went to the intermission tied at 1-1 when the Cougars got the equalizer with just over five minutes left in the period. The match remained tied until MVNU broke it open with goals in the 76th, 78th, and 82nd minutes to account for the final which was CU’s fourth straight loss.

Oct. 2, MALONE
Malone surrendered the first goal of the match and then recovered to hand the Lady Jackets a 3-1 setback in American Mideast Conference South Division action on Homecoming. It was the third straight loss for Cedarville with each one coming on the home turf. Jane Adams shrugged off a Malone defender and finished off a 15-yarder from the right side for her team-high eighth goal of the season to give CU the early lead. The two teams went to the intermission tied 1-1 after the visitors scored in the 38th minute. The Pioneers netted goals in the 63rd and 77th minutes to close out their eighth straight win. The wide open match featured a total of 36 shots with Malone holding a 21-15 advantage. The Pioneers placed 14 shots on goal compared to eight for Cedarville.

Sept. 28, OTTERBEIN
Otterbein scored three times in a nine-minute span early in the match en route to a 3-0 victory over the Lady Jackets in non-conference action. It was the second straight home shutout defeat suffered by Cedarville. The Cardinals took advantage of playing with a steady 20 mph wind to completely dominate the first 45 minutes. They scored in the 9th, 13th, and 18th minutes to take control. They had a 10-0 shot margin in the opening half as well as an 8-0 spread in corner kicks. Otterbein finished with a 12-6 edge in shots, including a 9-2 bulge in shots on goal, and a whopping 13-2 cushion in corners.

Sept. 25, TIFFIN
Tiffin scored in the second minute of the contest and never looked back in dealing host Cedarville a 3-0 setback in American Mideast Conference South Division action. The outcome ended the Jackets’ five-match unbeaten streak. Cedarville had a 10-8 shot advantage, but TU made the most of the opportunities. The Dragons scored in the 53rd minute and then added an own goal with 1:05 left. They were awarded three successive corner kicks in a span of 45 seconds and the last one deflected off a CU defender and into the net. Cedarville is winless in 10 tries versus Tiffin with eight setbacks and two ties.

Sept. 21, OHIO NORTHERN
Jane Adams scored both goals as the Lady Jackets edged Ohio Northern, 2-1, in a non-conference match. Cedarville is unbeaten in their last five matches. Adams got loose to score exactly four minutes into the contest on an assist from Jessica Thomas. The Polar Bears tied the match in the 26th minute and the score remained 1-1 at the intermission. Adams netted the game winner in the 68th minute with Katie Walter assisting. Cedarville outshot the visitors 14-12 overall, but Ohio Northern placed seven shots on goal compared to six for the Jackets. Jessica Balser was credited with six saves.

Sept. 18, INDIANA WESLEYAN
The Lady Jackets ran their unbeaten string to four straight matches after battling Indiana Wesleyan to a 0-0 tie in double overtime. It marked the first time in seven meetings with the Wildcats that Cedarville came away with something other than a loss. Both teams managed 10 shots apiece, but CU placed six on goal compared to two for Indiana Wesleyan. The Jackets cranked two shots off the crossbar in the second period while the visitors had one shot skim the crossbar following a deflection. It was the sixth time in Cedarville’s eight-year soccer history that a scoreless draw occurred. The last time was the 2003 season versus Malone. The Jackets matched a school record with their third straight shutout which has happened twice previously. Jessica Balser played all 110 minutes in goal and made two saves for her third shutout of the season.

Sept. 14, OHIO DOMINICAN
Jane Adams scored a goal and tied a school record with three assists to lead Cedarville to a 4-0 win versus Ohio Dominican in their AMC South Division opener. Karen Ruhlman added a goal and an assist as the Jackets continued their best start in the program’s eight-year history at 6-1. Adams scored the first goal in the 5th minute on Ruhlman’s assist. Then Adams, who is already CU’s all-time leader in goals and assists, set up the final three goals. Her pass to Lisa Blackburn resulted in a score with just two seconds left in the first period for a 2-0 halftime lead. Erin Baranski pushed in Adams’ corner kick in the 55th minute and then Ruhlman’s goal occurred when she cleaned up an Adams shot that banged off the right post with just under four minutes remaining. Jessica Balser made four saves in goal and notched her second shutout of the season.

Sept. 11, at Grace
Jane Adams recorded two goals and two assists to lead the Lady Jackets to a convincing 5-0 non-conference victory at Grace. Cedarville netted all five goals in the first half. Adams and Nicole James set up Candace Jelinek for her third goal of the season in the opening minute of play to give the visitors all they would need. Adams answered unassisted in the 14th minute to make it 2-0. CU struck for three goals in an eight-minute span to take command. Laura Radcliffe scored her second goal of 2004 in the 30th minute from Jessica Thomas; Adams converted a penalty kick for her fourth goal of the campaign five minutes later; and Lisa Blackburn tucked away her third goal of the season in the 38th minute from Adams and Abby Price. The outcome was Cedarville’s second shutout in six matches. Jessica Balser logged the first 69 minutes in goal before Sarah Gibson saw her first action of the season to complete the contest.

Sept. 7, EARLHAM
Karen Ruhlman had a goal and an assist while Jane Adams became Cedarville’s all-time scoring leader in a 3-2 non-conference win over Earlham in the Lady Jackets’ home opener. Cedarville never trailed after Adams scored unassisted in the 20th minute. However, the Quakers, who scored on their only two shots on goal in the match, tied the game with 7:11 left in the period which resulted in a 1-1 halftime score. Ruhlman headed home a pass from Nicole James in the 76th minute for what would be the game winner. Ruhlman set up Candace Jelinek just three minutes later for a 3-1 lead. The visiting Quakers closed the gap with their final goal in the 85th minute. Adams’ goal ties her with Michelle Ruhlman, who totaled 95 points from 1998 through 2001, at 34 career goals. The senior forward, already the school’s all-time assist leader with 28, now has 96 career points.

Sept. 4, at Houghton (at Houghton Classic)
NAIA No. 10 Houghton scored the game’s only goal in the 55th minute to beat Cedarville, 1-0, in the Houghton Classic. The Highlanders outshot the Lady Jackets 11-1 and held CU without a shot on goal. Houghton placed six shots on net. Jessica Balser was credited with five saves in the match.
Kristen Malpass was named the Defensive MVP of the tournament. She was joined on the all-tournament team by Lauren Sato and Jane Adams. [STATS]

Sept. 3, Roberts Wesleyan (at Houghton Classic)
Karen Ruhlman netted two goals and Jane Adams became Cedarville’s all-time assist leader as the undefeated Lady Jackets blanked Roberts Wesleyan, 4-0, at the Houghton Classic. Adams also found the net which got the scoring underway in the 14th minute with Jessica Thomas assisting. CU took a 2-0 lead into the intermission following a goal by Laura Radcliffe in the 21st minute from Katie Mariani. Ruhlman got her first goal in the 73rd minute with Thomas notching her second assist of the match. Ruhlman scored again three minutes later from Adams. It was that assist that gave the senior forward her 28th career assist which, ironically, passes Karen Ruhlman’s older sister, Michelle, who tallied 27 assists from 1998 through 2001. The Jackets outshot Roberts Wesleyan 22-8 for the match. Jessica Balser was credited with the shutout and made six saves.

Aug. 28, Northwestern (Iowa) (at Spring Arbor Classic)
The Lady Jackets surrendered the game’s first goal, but bounced back to knock off Northwestern (Iowa), 3-1, to win both of their matches at the Spring Arbor Classic. It’s Cedarville’s first 2-0 start in their eight-year varsity history. Nicole James tied the match in the 17th minute on assists from Katie Mariani and Lisa Blackburn. Karen Ruhlman sent CU to the intermission with a 2-1 lead on a goal from Blackburn in the 38th minute. The Jackets had the lone score of the second period when Candace Jelinek found the net in the 54th minute on an assist from Laura Radcliffe. Cedarville had a convincing 32-8 shot advantage. Jessica Balser logged all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves. [STATS]

Aug. 27, Cornerstone (at Spring Arbor Classic)
Lisa Blackburn tallied two goals and an assist as Cedarville held off Cornerstone for a 3-2 victory at the Spring Arbor Classic. It was the season opener for the Lady Jackets. Karen Ruhlman got CU on the board first in the 35th minute on Blackburn's assist. Cornerstone found the net in the 41st minute for a 1-1 tie at the intermission. Blackburn struck twice in the decisive second half. Jane Adams was credited with assists on both goals while Ruhlman added an assist on the second score. The Eagles completed the scoring with a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Adams two assists ties her with Michelle Ruhlman for the Lady Jackets’ all-time lead in the category with 27 each. Cedarville outshot Cornerstone, 12-10. Jessica Balser played all 90 minutes in goal and made three saves. [STATS]
