2004 Meet Recaps Nov. 20, at NAIA Nationals Christina Reyes and Samantha Maat earned All-America honors at the NAIA Championships where the Lady Jackets placed 9th as a team. They are the 8th and 9th Cedarville women to be named NAIA All-Americans which are top 30 finishers in the national meet. Reyes posted a time of 18:20 for the 5,000 meters to finish 14th out of 258 competitors. Maat was 18th in 18:25. Other Lady Jackets to score were Kathy Scott (119th; 19:52), Julie Martz (126th; 19:56), and Sarah Bailey (159th; 20:09). [TEAM and INDIVIDUAL RESULTS] Three Lady Jackets were named NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes. The trio includes senior Melissa Mattner as well as juniors Sarah Bailey and Jennifer McKellar. The list honors juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. [NAIA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES] Nov. 13, NCCAA NATIONALS Christina Reyes placed 2nd overall and NAIA No. 11 Cedarville was the team runner-up at the 24th Annual NCCAA Championships at John Bryan State Park. The top six teams are all ranked in the NAIA Top 25 led by No. 3 Malone, who won their 10th title with 76 points. The Lady Jackets had 78 points and No. 9 and defending champion Indiana Wesleyan tallied 82. Reyes covered the 5,000 meters in a season-low time of 18:01 which was 14 seconds behind the winning time. She was joined on the All-America team (top 15 finishers) by Samantha Maat, who was 6th in 18:19. Other CU runners to figure in the scoring were Kathy Scott (16th; 19:02), Julie Martz (21st; 19:22), and Sarah Bailey (36th; 19:47). [NCCAA SCHOLAR-ATHLETES] Nov. 6, at American Mideast Conference Championship Christina Reyes and Samantha Maat earned American Mideast Conference First Team honors after leading the NAIA No. 11 Lady Jackets to a 2nd-place finish in the AMC Championship. Defending champion and 3rd-ranked Malone tallied 33 points, Cedarville had 57, and No. 19 Roberts Wesleyan was next with 91 points. Reyes covered the 5,000 meters in 18:40 to place 4th overall while Maat was 6th in 18:47. Kathy Scott finished 10th in 19:40 which was good enough for All-AMC Second Team honors. Julie Martz was 15th in 20:01 for AMC honorable mention recognition and Sarah Bailey was 22nd in 20:24. [AMC RESULTS and NAIA REGION IX RESULTS] Oct. 23, at Georgetown Classic Samantha Maat and Christina Reyes both finished in the top five and the NAIA No. 9 Lady Jackets placed 2nd out of 19 schools at the Georgetown Classic. Cedarville tallied 57 points and only trailed No. 3 and fellow American Mideast Conference member Malone, who had 37 points. Maat recorded a time of 18:29 for the 5,000 meters to finish 3rd while Reyes was 5th in 18:48. Freshman Julie Martz was 16th in 19:49; Melissa Mattner was 20th in 19:57; and Kathy Scott placed 23rd in 20:01. [RESULTS] Oct. 8, at Ohio Intercollegiate Championship Samantha Maat finished 8th to pace the NAIA No. 9 Lady Jackets to a 10th-place finish at the Ohio Intercollegiate Championship. A total 273 runners representing 39 institutions from across the state competed. Maat turned in a time of 18:37 for the 5,000 meter course. Christina Reyes was close behind in 11th place in 18:40. Others to score for Cedarville were Julie Martz (79th; 20:09), Kathy Scott (80th; 20:09), and Sarah Bailey (131st; 20:49). Kent State won the meet with 113 points and was followed in the top three by Ohio State, 115; and Malone, 137. The Jackets, who were 3rd among NAIA/NCAA Division II schools, tallied 308 points. [TEAM and INDIVIDUAL RESULTS] Sept. 25, at Louisville Classic Samantha Maat was the individual champion and teammate Christina Reyes was the runner-up to lead the NAIA No. 12 Lady Jackets to a 4th-place showing at the Louisville Classic. The 38-team meet was run on the NAIA cross country championship course. Maat toured the 5,000 meters in 18:10 while Reyes was one second behind. Other Lady Jackets to score were Kathy Scott (58th; 19:38), Melissa Mattner (59th; 19:40), and Maria Harley (78th; 19:53). Southeast Missouri State won the team title with 120 points. The rest of the top five included Georgia State, 127; Indiana Wesleyan, 173; Cedarville, 191; and Xavier, 198. [RESULTS] Sept. 18, 14th ANNUAL FRIENDSHIP INVITATIONAL Samantha Maat was the individual runner-up and NAIA No. 9 Cedarville placed 3rd as a team in the 14th Annual Friendship Invitational at John Bryan State Park. NCAA Division I Miami won the 14-team meet with 28 points, NAIA No. 16 Roberts Wesleyan was 2nd with 73 points, and the Lady Jackets finished with 76 points. Maat covered the 5,000 meters in 18:03 in what was her second collegiate cross country race. Christina Reyes placed 4th in 18:28. Other CU runners to score were Jennifer McKellar (22nd; 19:39), Kathy Scott (24th; 19:44), and Julie Martz (5th; 19:48). [RESULTS and PHOTO GALLERY] Sept. 4, at Hope Invitational Samantha Maat and Christina Reyes finished 1-2 to lead the NAIA No. 20 Lady Jackets to the Hope Invitational championship in their 2004 season opener. Maat, running in her first collegiate cross country race, toured the 5,000 meters in a winning time of 18:21. Reyes was clocked in 18:38 as the runner-up in her first outing at Cedarville after transferring in this year from Cuesta College in California. Other Lady Jackets to score were freshman Julie Martz (4th; 19:12), Jennifer McKellar (5th; 19:17), and Audree Goodew (10th; 19:39). Cedarville finished with 22 points and Hope was 2nd with 38 points. Other teams were Albion (73), Alma (123), and Cornerstone (132). [RESULTS] |
