April 27-28, at AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament
Trevor Bowman earned a spot on the All-American Mideast Conference Team and the shorthanded Yellow Jackets finished the year with an 8th-place finish at the AMC/NAIA Region IX Tournament. Cedarville was sent reeling when Scott Aker, who set a school record with a 73.61 scoring average this season, came down ill the night before the 54-hole event started and was forced to withdraw. That left the Jackets with only four players who responded with scores of 322-308-311 for a 941 total. Bowman opened with an 82 on the par-72 Apple Valley Golf Course and then roared back with rounds of 71 and 72 for a total of 225. He tied for 6th overall and was tied for 5th in the conference to garner All-AMC honors. Other CU scores were Brett Bigler, 78-81-78-237; Travis Roach, 84-77-77-238; and Adam Schlappi, 78-79-84-241. April 21-22, at Malone Invitational
Cedarville placed 6th out of nine schools at the Malone Invitational which was played at the par 72 Tannenhauf Golf Course. The host and NAIA No. 17 Pioneers won the 36-hole tournament with scores of 287-290 for a 577 total. The Yellow Jackets finished 30 shots back with rounds of 302-305-607. Scott Aker paced Cedarville's balanced attack with a 151 total following scores of 75 and 76 which placed 21st overall. Other Yellow Jackets on the five-man roster were Adam Schlappi (75-77-152), Brett Bigler (76-76-152), Trevor Bowman (78-76-154), and Travis Roach (76-80-156). April 17-18, 26th Annual CEDARVILLE INVITATIONAL
Walsh charged from 10 shots behind to win the 26th Annual Cedarville Invitational at Country Club of the North. The Yellow Jackets, who led after the first round was played at the Beavercreek Golf Club, finished 3rd in the 36-hole event that attracted 10 teams. Scott Aker tied for 1st place with rounds of 76-77 for a 153 total, but lost medalist honors on the first playoff hole. Adam Schlappi tied for 4th (79-76-155) and Trevor Bowman tied for 9th (76-81-157). Brett Bigler finished 22nd overall (78-84-162) and Brent Martin was 35th (85-82-167). Travis Roach paced the Cedarville (B) squad at 81-76-157 to tie for 9th. Brendan Ojala (81-85-166) and Daniel Servi (87-79-166) tied for 32nd and Taylor Durling (92-80-172) was 42nd. Walsh put together rounds of 319 and 298 for a 617 total to win by seven shots. Ohio Dominican (325-299-624) finished 2nd while CU's 3rd-place total was 309-316-625. [RESULTS]
April 14-15, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational
Scott Aker was the tournament runner-up and the Yellow Jackets set a 36-hole school record while tying for 3rd place at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational. Cedarville's team scores of 300-298 for a 598 total broke the school record of 599 set in the fall at Wittenberg. Malone won the 10-team event at 302-288-590 and Tiffin was 2nd at 296-299-595. Walsh tied CU scores of 291-307-598. Aker finished one stroke shy of medalist honors after carding rounds of 73-69 for a 2-under par 142 total at the par-72 Apple Valley Golf Club. Trevor Bowman was 5th with scores of 72-73-145. Other Yellow Jackets part of the five-member team were Adam Schlappi (76-78-154), Brent Martin (79-78-157), and Brendan Ojala (81-84-165). April 7-8, at Indiana Wesleyan Invitational
The Yellow Jackets tied for 5th place out of eight teams at the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational. The 36-hole event was played in cool and windy conditions at the par 72 Meshingomesia Country Club. Adam Schlappi paced Cedarville with rounds of 74 and 76 for a 150 total. Other scores were Scott Aker (77-76-153), Brett Bigler (80-78-158), Trevor Bowman (78-83-161), and Brendan Ojala (80-82-162). Taylor Durling (79-82-161) played as an individual. Marian IN won the tournament with scores of 300-293 for a total of 593. The rest of the field included Indiana Wesleyan (297-305-602), Bethel IN (306-307-613), Lindenwood "B" (300-315-615), Cedarville (309-312-621), Huntington (311-310-621), Marian "B" (313-326-639), Lindenwood "C" (325-323-648). April 4, at Central State
Adam Schlappi carded a one-under par 71 in high winds at the Locust Hills Golf Course in a dual match with Central State. Cedarville had a 304 total while the Marauders checked in with a 395. Trevor Bowman finished with a 73 during a 50-degree day in which winds were a steady 25 mph gusting to 35. Brendan Ojala, Brent Martin, and Taylor Durling each fired an 80. Individually, Travis Roach tallied a 77 and Daniel Servi had an 87. Scott Aker and Brett Bigler did not play in the match.
March 31, at Urbana Invitational
Adam Schlappi carded a 76 in windy and wet conditions to lead Cedarville to the Urbana Invitational title to begin the spring schedule. The Jackets totalled 311 strokes and were followed by the host Blue Knights, 315; Shawnee State, 317; Owens Community College, 324; Columbus State, 332; and Central State, 457. Scott Aker fired a 77 at the par 71 Woodland Golf Club. Trevor Bowman and Brendan Ojala each had a 79 while Brett Bigler had an 80. Individually, Taylor Durling finished with a 77; Travis Roach, 81; Brent Martin, 84; and Daniel Servi, 87.
Oct. 31, at Dayton Invitational
Scott Aker carded a two-over par 73 for co-medalist honors in the University of Dayton Invitational played at the NCR Country Club South Course. Cedarville placed 8th out of 12 teams in the tournament which featured 10 NCAA Division I squads. The 7,055-yard, par-71 NCR South layout was intriguing in many ways especially since the same tee and pin placements that were utilized in the final round of the 2005 U.S. Senior Open were used. Aker's splits were 36-37 and he was the only player in the field to shoot even par on the front nine. Adam Schlappi turned in an 81 which broke a string of 26 consecutive rounds in the 70's dating back to his freshman season. Other Yellow Jacket scores were Brent Martin, 86; Trevor Bowman, 88; and Brett Bigler, 90. Dayton won the event with a 313 total while Cincinnati was runner-up at 316. Oct. 10-11, at NCCAA National Tournament
Scott Aker became Cedarville's first NCCAA All-American in men's golf and the Jackets finished 9th of 24 teams at the NCCAA National Tournament. Indiana Wesleyan won the 36-hole event at the 6,600-yard River Greens Golf Club layout with rounds of 298 and 292 for a 590 total. CU was 20 shots off the pace at 304-306-610. Aker followed an opening-round 75 with a 1-over par 73 for a 148 total to tie for 10th place individually. The top 10 finishers plus ties earn a spot on the All-America team. Other Yellow Jacket scores were Trevor Bowman, 77-75-152; Adam Schlappi, 76-78-154; Brett Bigler, 76-80-156; and Brent Martin, 80-80-160. [RESULTS]
Sept. 30 - Oct. 1, at Ohio Dominican Classic
Scott Aker earned medalist honors for the second straight week in winning the Ohio Dominican Classic where the Yellow Jackets placed second out of nine schools. Aker opened with a school-record 5-under par 67 and closed with a 73. His 4-under total of 140 broke the school record that he set just one week earlier by two shots. Other Cedarville scores included Adam Schlappi (79-78-157), Brendan Ojala (73-87-160), Trevor Bowman (88-75-163), and Brett Bigler (90-76-166). Brent Martin played individually and had rounds of 77-81-158. Malone (296-299-595) won the team title by 14 strokes over the Jackets (307-302-609). The rest of the top five included host Ohio Dominican (313-304-617), Seton Hill (322-306-628), and Urbana (327-313-640). [RESULTS]
Sept. 23-24, at Wittenberg Invitational
Scott Aker fired a school-record two-under par 142 for 36 holes to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory at the Wittenberg Invitational played on the Reid Park North Course. Aker, a junior who ironically transferred this year from Wittenberg, fired rounds of 72 and 70 to break the old school mark of 146 set twice previously by teammate Adam Schlappi. Schlappi placed 2nd with back-to-back rounds of 75 for a 150 total. Freshman Trevor Bowman bounced back from an opening 81 with a 73 to tie for 4th overall at 154. Brett Bigler (79-79-158) and Brent Martin (76-82-158) tied for 12th place. Brendan Ojala was entered as an individual and finished tied for 7th at 78-78-156. Taylor Durling (82-77-159) tied for 14th and Daniel Servi was 39th (89-84-173). Cedarville set a new 36-hole team school record with a 599 total which was 33 shots better than runner-up Wittenberg and 17 strokes lower than the old CU record of 616 set in the 2005 spring season. The Jackets' second-round score of 299 tied for the third-lowest score in CU golf history and was just three shots off of the record. [RESULTS]
Sept. 9-10, at Tiffin Invitational
The Yellow Jackets began their 2005-06 schedule with a solid showing at the Tiffin Invitational by finishing 4th out of 16 schools. Ten of Cedarville's 12 rounds were below 80 in the 36-hole event played at the Mohawk Country Club. Scott Aker, a junior transfer from nearby Wittenberg University, made his Yellow Jacket debut with rounds of 75-71 for a 2-over par total of 146. Other CU scores were Adam Schlappi (77-77-154), Brett Bigler (78-76-154), Trevor Bowman (80-76-156), and Brent Martin (76-82-158). Brendan Ojala was entered as an individual and posted rounds of (77-78-155). The Jackets opened with a team score of 306 and then followed that with a 300 which is the fourth-lowest score in the program's 46-year history. Also, the 606 total broke the school's 36-hole record by 10 strokes. Malone won the tournament at 292-296-588. [RESULTS]
