Nov. 19, at NAIA Nationals
Cedarville, who was rated 16th in the final national poll of the season, placed 14th of 28 schools at the NAIA National Championship. Virginia Intermont repeated as team champion with 52 points while Concordia CA was runner-up with 122. The Yellow Jackets totaled 376 points in the 28-team field. Dan Campbell took 26:01 to cover the 8,000 meters and finished 82nd out of 261 competitors. Nov. 12, NCCAA NATIONALS
Dan Campbell, running in only his second varsity race of the season, became an NCCAA All-American for the third consecutive time. The senior toured the 8,000 meters in 25:41 to finish 9th out of 154 competitors to lead Cedarville to a 3rd-place finish. Bryan Pittman put together a career-best effort of 26:09 to place 17th. Other Yellow Jackets to score were Justin Gutierrez (20th; 26:21), Jordan Seibert (22nd; 26:32), and Kevin Hall (23rd; 26:39). Hall was also recognized as an NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete, who are juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average. Nov. 5, at American Mideast Conference Championship
The NAIA No. 16 Yellow Jackets finished 4th in the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX Championships at Shawnee State University. Defending champion Malone easily won the team title with 24 points. The rest of the top four included the host Bears, 92 points; Saint Vincent, 97; and Cedarville, 105. Justin Gutierrez paced the Jackets by finishing 11th with a time of 26:47 for the 8,000 meters to earn a spot on the All-AMC Second Team (finishers 8-14). Other CU runners to score included Justin Herbert (18th; 27:07), Benjamin Shroyer (20th; 27:11), Bryan Pittman (22nd; 27:27), and Kevin Hall (25th; 27:35). Oct. 22, at Southeast Classic
The NAIA No. 17 Yellow Jackets finished third out of 27 teams in the Southeast Classic at Berry College. No. 1 ranked Virginia Intermont won the event with 38 points, No. 4 Malone had 76 points, and CU tallied 117 points. Benjamin Shroyer, who normally runs in the #4 position, toured the 8,000 meters in a career-best 26:09 to lead Cedarville. Dan Campbell, the program's top runner in each of the past two seasons, participated in his first varsity meet of the year and placed 23rd in 26:16. Rounding out CU's top five finishers were Justin Herbert (28th; 26:36), Kevin Hall (29th; 26:37), and Bryan Pittman (30th; 26:38). [COMPLETE RESULTS]
Oct. 7, at All-Ohio Intercollegiate
NAIA No. 11 Cedarville made a solid showing at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship by placing 9th out of 41 teams. Ohio State won the title with 64 points and the Yellow Jackets recorded 324. Cedarville's top five finishers all ran within 40 seconds of one another led by Kevin Hall, who was 45th out of 286 competitors in 27:14 for the 8K. Other Jackets to score were Jordan Seibert (63rd; 27:43), Justin Herbert (68th; 27:50), Benjamin Shroyer (72nd; 27:52), and Bryan Pittman (76th; 27:54). Returning #1 runner Dan Campbell, who has not run a varsity race yet this year due to injury, placed 21st of 354 runners in 27:30 in the Open meet as a preparation to be in the line-up at CU's next assignment in two weeks. Sept. 24, at Louisville Classic
The NAIA No. 16 Yellow Jackets placed 14th out of 35 teams at the Louisville Classic which was staged on the NAIA national championship course. NCAA Division I members Tennessee, with 52 points; Louisville, 73; and the U.S. Naval Academy, 93, made up the top three teams while Cedarville totaled 455 points. Kevin Hall's 64th-place effort with a time of 26:03 was the best showing by a Yellow Jacket in a field that included 306 competitors. Jud Brooker was 90th in 26:29 and was followed by Justin Herbert (100th; 26:36), Justin Gutierrez (101st; 26:36), and Benjamin Shroyer (133rd; 27:00). [COMPLETE RESULTS]
Sept. 17, 15th Annual FRIENDSHIP INVITATIONAL
NAIA No. 15 Cedarville placed 4th in the 15th Annual Friendship Invitational which featured the strongest field in the history of the event. NCAA Division I No. 13 Ohio State placed 11 runners among the first 17 finishers and easily won the meet with 25 points. Defending champion Otterbein had 90 points, Ohio Northern tallied 97, and the Yellow Jacktets recorded 99. Kevin Hall paced CU by placing 18th with a time of 26:12 for the 8K course. Sept. 10, at Miami Invitational
NAIA No. 16 Cedarville opened the 2005 season by placing 5th at the Miami University Invitational. The seven-team field included four NCAA Division I schools and three NAIA nationally-ranked teams. Kevin Hall paced the Yellow Jackets by finishing 16th with a time of 26:24 for the 8,000 meters. Other CU runners to score were Justin Herbert (33rd; 27:16), Jud Brooker (34th; 27:18), Benjamin Shroyer (45th; 27:43), and Justin Gutierrez (47th; 27:52). Two-time NCCAA All-American Dan Campbell, the team’s top returning runner, did not participate due to injury. Kent State won the team title with 42 points while the host RedHawks had 44. NAIA No. 6 Malone had 66 points and was followed by Cincinnati, 87; Cedarville, 150; NAIA No. 18 Cumberlands KY, 170; and Wright State, 203. [COMPLETE RESULTS]
