Sue Carpenter
Carpenter leaving CU for Wright State
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (5-22-2006) - Sue Carpenter, the winningest coach in Lady Jacket softball history, is leaving Cedarville to become an assistant coach at NCAA Division I Wright State. The move is effective immediately according to CU athletic director, Pete Reese, who will begin a search for a new coach.
"Sue gave us seven quality years as our head softball coach and we are sorry to see her leave," said Reese. "She was committed to the mission of the University in how she led the program and we appreciate that kind of dedication. We wish her nothing but the best in the move to Wright State."
Carpenter's 162 victories is nearly triple that of any previous coach in the 22-year history of Lady Jacket fast-pitch softball. Six of her seven teams finished with a record of .500 or better and the 30 victories achieved by the 2002 club is a school record for a single season.
Cedarville won its only NCCAA Midwest Region championship in 2000 after which the Lady Jackets made their first of four NCCAA National Tournament appearances under Carpenter. They qualified for the NAIA Region IX Tournament three times.
Carpenter will continue to reside in Cedarville and make the short commute to Wright State which is just west of Cedarville. Sue and her husband, Kevin, who is a senior network technician in Computer Services at CU, have two sons: Nick, 11, and Josh, 8.
