Wong joins Lady Jackets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (6-21-2006) - Lydia Wong, a homeschool graduate from Dillsburg, Pa., has signed a letter of intent to attend Cedarville University and compete in cross country and track & field for the Lady Jackets. She was a three-year varsity runner at Northern York High School where she was a two-time state qualifier in cross country. Wong placed 31st in the 2005 state championship as a senior with a time of 19:32 for the 5K.

Reyes repeats as NAIA All-American; CU 4th

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (11-19-2005) - Christina Reyes earned All-America honors for the second straight year to lead the Lady Jackets to a 4th-place finish at the NAIA National Championship. Simon Fraser BC easily repeated as champion with 74 points and was followed by Black Hills State SD, 190; British Columbia, 209; and Cedarville, 212, to round out the top four in the 28-team field.

Reyes completed her two-year Lady Jacket cross country career by finishing 28th with a season-low time of 18:28 for the 5,000 meters. The top 30 individuals are All-Americans. Other CU runners to figure into the scoring were Samantha Maat (37th; 18:43), Elisabeth Pyles (43rd; 18:47), Brittany Simpson (79th; 19:11), and Audree Goodew (94th; 19:19).

Maat and Sarah Bailey were both named NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes. The list includes juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average. [COMPLETE RESULTS and NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes]

King inducted into NAIA Hall of Fame

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (11-16-2005) - Cedarville University women's cross country coach Elvin King was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame at the national championship on Nov.18 in Louisville, Ky. He becomes the fifth Yellow Jacket coach to be recognized with the association's highest honor.

King, who has been at Cedarville since 1969, started the women's cross country program in 1980 and has developed it into one of the top NAIA distance running programs in the country. While he has enjoyed many highlights during his career, the biggest occurred in 2001 when the Lady Jackets captured the NAIA national championship, the school's first in any sport, and he was voted National Coach of the Year.

King has coached 15 NAIA All-Americans and his program has proven to be national caliber both on the field of competition and in the classroom. The Lady Jackets have been ranked among the NAIA's Top 20 programs in each of the last 13 years including one week at the No. 1 spot during the 2001 campaign and seven straight weeks in the top position in 2002. Two of his squads have earned the NAIA Scholar-Team Award for having the highest combined team GPA among teams at the national meet.

Jackets 2nd; Maat, Pyles NCCAA All-Americans

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (11-12-2005) - NAIA No. 4 Cedarville finished as the runner-up for the second straight year, and Samantha Maat and Elisabeth Pyles earned All-America status at the NCCAA Championships at John Bryan State Park. NAIA No. 2 Olivet Nazarene won the meet with 59 points, the Lady Jackets tallied 76, and No. 9 Malone had 81 to round out the top three in the 21-team field.

Maat finished third with a time of 18:04 for the 5,000 meters to secure a spot on the All-America team (top 15 finishers) for the second year in a row. Pyles, a freshman, was 14th in 18:42. Other Lady Jacket runners to figure into the scoring were Christina Reyes (17th; 18:53), Brittany Simpson (18th; 19:00), and Stacey Keller (28th; 19:34).

Maat was presented the coveted Bullock Award as the NCCAA's Outstanding Runner in athletics, academics, leadership, Christian character, and Christian service. She and Sarah Bailey were recognized as NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athletes, who are juniors and seniors who maintain a minimum 3.40 cumulative grade point average. Jackets regain AMC, region crowns

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (11-5-2005) - The NAIA No. 4 Lady Jackets won the American Mideast Conference and NAIA Region IX championships for the first time in three years. Cedarville totaled 34 points to outrun defending champion Malone, who finished with 60 points, and 14 other schools for the titles.

Junior standout Samantha Maat was Cedarville's #1 finisher for the sixth straight time this year placing 2nd in the 5,000-meter race with a career-best time of 17:59. She was joined on the All-AMC First Team (top 7 finishers) by senior Christina Reyes, who was 4th in 18:36, and freshman Elisabeth Pyles, who was 5th with a season-low time of 18:54. Audree Goodew (11th; 19:12) and Brittany Simpson (12th; 19:16) were All-AMC Second Team performers (finishers 8-14). Elvin King was tabbed AMC and NAIA Region IX Coach of the Year.
