Nov. 7, at Spring Arbor (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Spring Arbor scored twice late in the first half to defeat Cedarville, 2-0, in the semifinals of the NCCAA Midwest Regional. The Lady Jackets end the season at 7-10-2. The host Cougars, 16-6-1, broke the scoreless duel with a goal in the 43rd minute. Spring Arbor netted an insurance goal off a free kick with just 23 seconds left in the half to account for the final. [STATS]
Oct. 24, MALONE
Malone spoiled Senior Day for the Lady Jackets with a late goal and a 2-1 AMC South Division win. The outcome ends Cedarville's regular season at 7-9-2 overall and 2-4-2 AMC. CU honored its seven seniors prior to the contest and then battled the Pioneers to a scoreless first half. Malone, 10-6-2 and 4-3-1 AMC, struck first in the 50th minute. The Jackets netted the equalizer in the 66th minute when freshman Kelly Wise scooped up a loose ball in the box and tucked it away for her first collegiate goal. However, the visitors netted the game winner with just 2:33 remaining. [STATS]
Oct. 21, OHIO DOMINICAN
AMC South Division co-leader Ohio Dominican scored twice early in the second half and held on to beat the Lady Jackets, 2-1. Cedarville, 7-8-2 overall and 2-3-2 AMC, took a 1-0 lead into the intermission after getting their lone goal in the 16th minute. A misplayed clearing pass by the ODU keeper ended up on the foot of Karen Ruhlman in the middle of the field, who in turn lofted a 40-yarder over the Panther defense and into the empty net. Ohio Dominican, 7-6-2 and 6-1 AMC, scored on a pair of free kicks in the 50th and 56th minutes to grab a lead they would not relinquish. The visitors produced advantages of 13-9 on shots, 7-4 in shots on goal, and 8-4 in corner kicks. [STATS]
Oct. 17, at Walsh
Abby Price scored both goals and the Lady Jackets continued their mastery over Walsh in a 2-0 AMC South Division victory. Cedarville sports a 7-1-2 record in 10 meetings with the Cavaliers. Price floated a shot over the keeper's head and underneath the crossbar in the 14th minute with an assist from Karen Ruhlman. The senior midfielder provided an insurance goal by converting a penalty kick in the 69th minute after Lisa Burgman had been taken down in the box. Walsh, 6-8 overall and 2-4 AMC, outshot the Jackets 9-5 overall and 8-3 in shots on goal. Amber Laing was credited with eight saves while posting her second shutout of the season. Cedarville, 7-7-2 and 2-2-2 AMC, has allowed just one goal in the last four matches. [STATS]
Oct. 13, RIO GRANDE
Lisa Blackburn scored three goals and Cedarville ended its offensive frustration with a 7-0 romp over injury-plagued Rio Grande. The Redwomen arrived for the AMC South Division contest with just ten healthy players. The Lady Jackets, who halted an eight-match winless streak, had not scored a goal in nearly 400 minutes covering their previous four matches until Blackburn scored her first goal in the 19th minute. Abby Price found the net unassisted as well in the 36th minute and Hannah Wailes scored her first career goal in the 40th minute from Kelly Wise for a 3-0 halftime lead. Blackburn scored twice more in the final period while Colleen Derry and Karen Ruhlman added goals. Ruhlman, Lisa Burgman, and Lauren Haegele contributed assists. Cedarville, 6-7-2 overall and 1-2-2 AMC, posted convincing shot advantages of 46-1 overall and 18-0 on goal. Rio Grande drops to 2-11 and 0-6 AMC. [STATS]
Oct. 11, at Urbana
The Lady Jackets were shutout for the third consecutive match in a 1-0 setback at Urbana in an AMC South Division contest. The game was originally scheduled on Sept. 30, but was postponed due to severe weather. Shots were at a premium for both sides with Urbana recording four and CU getting off two. All six shots combined were on goal. The Blue Knights, 8-6-1 overall and 2-3 AMC, netted the game's only goal in the 68th minute by deflecting in a corner kick. The Jackets, 5-7-2 and 0-2-2 AMC, remained winless in their last eight outings (0-6-2). [STATS]
Oct. 6, SHAWNEE STATE
Cedarville did everything but shoot the ball in the net during a 0-0 double overtime tie with Shawnee State in an AMC South Division match played on Homecoming Weekend. It was the seventh scoreless deadlock in the Lady Jackets' 10-year soccer history and their second one with SSU. CU controlled every phase of the game. They outshot the Bears 22-2 overall, 12-1 in shots on goal, and attempted 13 corner kicks to just one for the visitors. The Jackets even hit the crossbar once in the first half and clanked a shot off the right post in the second period. Brianne Barnes was called upon to make one save for Cedarville, 5-6-2 overall and 0-1-2 AMC. Shawnee State is 6-4-2 and 2-3-1 AMC. [STATS]
Oct. 3, at Mount Vernon Nazarene
Mount Vernon Nazarene held the Lady Jacket offense in check with a 3-0 AMC South Division decision over Cedarville. The Cougars, 6-4-1 overall and 4-0 AMC, remained unbeaten in the league while the Jackets fell to 5-6-1 and 0-1-1 AMC. Mount Vernon scored goals in the 5th and 30th minutes for a 2-0 halftime lead. The hosts completed the scoring in the 77th minute. MVNU outshot Cedarville 22-4 overall and 14-3 in shots on goal. Goalkeepers Amber Laing and Brianne Barnes made 11 saves between them. [STATS]
Sept. 26, TIFFIN
Tiffin scored twice late in regulation to rally for a 2-2 double overtime tie at Cedarville in an AMC South Division match. The Lady Jackets, 5-5-1 overall and 0-0-1 AMC, have never beaten the Dragons in 12 meetings (0-9-3). Things went CU's way for 84 minutes against a Tiffin squad who had only allowed two goals in their previous nine matches.. Freshman defender Torrie Pepper cleaned up a Lisa Blackburn crossing pass 11 minutes into the match for her first collegiate goal. Karen Ruhlman made it 2-0 in the 26th minute when her 25-yard shot found the upper right corner with an assist from Lisa Burgman. Tiffin, 8-2-1 and 2-0-1 AMC, dominated the match statistically but could not find the net until putting forth a late surge. The visitors finally scored in the 84th minute and then needed just 68 seconds to tie it. CU held on to force the two extra 10-minute periods and finally end a four-match losing streak. The Dragons held sizeable margins in shots overall (26-9), shots on goal (14-4), and corner kicks (12-2). Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Laing made a career-high 12 saves. [STATS]
Sept. 23, at Wilmington
Unbeaten Wilmington held Cedarville to three shots on goal and shut down the Lady Jackets, 2-0, in a non-conference match. The Quakers improved to 6-0-1. Wilmington, who outshot CU 17-13 overall and 12-3 in shots on goal, got all they needed with a score in the 17th minute. The hosts put an insurance tally on the board just 1:21 into the second period. Amber Laing registered 10 saves in goal for the Lady Jackets, 5-5, who lost their fourth straight match. [STATS]
Sept. 22, OHIO NORTHERN
Ohio Northern broke a tie game with a goal in the 74th minute to beat the Lady Jackets, 2-1, in non-conference action. Cedarville, 5-4, dropped its third straight match. The Polar Bears, 6-2, scored in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Senior forward Lisa Blackburn stole a pass and made the most of a breakaway by netting her fourth goal of the season in the 61st minute to tie the contest. Ohio Northern outshot the Jackets 9-2 in each half for an 18-4 bulge overall and a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. CU keeper Amber Laing was credited with five saves. [STATS]
Sept. 16, at Saint Francis (Ind.)
Saint Francis (Ind.) beat Cedarville, 1-0, in a non-conference match in which the two teams combined for eight shots total. The Cougars scored the only goal of the match in the 27th minute to deal the Lady Jackets, 5-3 overall, their second straight 1-0 setback and their third of the season. Senior forward Lisa Blackburn had the only two shots that CU could muster in the match. Both were on goal with one coming in each half. Saint Francis, 4-5, took six shots with five on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Laing tallied four saves. [STATS]
Sept. 13, INDIANA WESLEYAN
NAIA No. 23 Indiana Wesleyan's constant pressure paid off in a 1-0 non-conference victory over the Lady Jackets. The Wildcats, 6-2 overall, have never lost to Cedarville in nine meetings going 8-0-1 in the season series. IWU netted the only goal of the match in the 74th minute. The Wildcats dominated the contest statistically with a 16-3 bulge in shots overall and a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal. The visitors also enjoyed a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Laing was called upon to make a career-high eight saves for the Jackets, 5-2. [STATS]
Sept. 9, at Grace
Lisa Blackburn netted her 20th career goal to finish off Cedarville's 2-1 comeback victory at Grace. The senior forward moved into sole possession of fourth place on the school's all-time goal scoring list. The host Lancers, winless in four matches, started the scoring in the 12th minute. Jillian Losee responded with her first career goal in the 21st minute on an assist from Hannah Wailes. The two teams remained deadlocked until the 81st minute when Blackburn cleaned up her own rebound for her third goal of the season. The Lady Jackets, 5-1 overall, outshot Grace 14-3 overall and 10-2 in shots on goal. Rookie goalkeeper Brianne Barnes tallied one save. [STATS]
Sept. 5, TAYLOR
Abby Price converted a penalty kick with 1:21 left as the Lady Jackets rallied for a 2-1 non-conference victory over Taylor. CU has a 5-0-2 record in their last seven meetings with the Trojans. Taylor, 1-2 overall, got on the board first in the 30th minute and held the lead deep into the second half. Senior forward Karen Ruhlman tied the match in the 69th minute with her first goal of the season and the 17th of her career. She broke through several Taylor defenders and fired in a 15-yarder unassisted. The two teams appeared headed to overtime until freshman Kelly Wise was ruled to have been pulled down just inside the top of the box thus creating the PK situation. Cedarville, 4-1 overall, held the advantage in shots overall (15-10) and shots on goal (8-6). Freshman goalkeeper Brianne Barnes, who made five saves, was pressed into making her collegiate debut when starter Amber Laing was injured in pre-game warm-ups. [STATS]
Sept. 2, GEORGETOWN
Georgetown made a first-half goal stand up in a 1-0 victory over the Lady Jackets in the final match of the Cedarville Classic. The outcome was the first loss of the season for CU, 3-1 overall. The Tigers, 2-0, found the net with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute. That was all they would need in a non-conference match played in a persistent drizzle. Both teams tallied seven shots each overall each with Georgetown holding a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. Lady Jacket keeper Amber Laing was credited with four saves. [STATS]
Sept. 1, CAMPBELLSVILLE
The Lady Jackets remained undefeated through their first three matches following a 3-1 victory over Campbellsville in the opening round of the Cedarville Classic. Georgetown blanked Illinois Tech, 4-0, in the first match. CU dominated their home opener statistically with a convincing 22-3 margin in overall shots and a 12-1 bulge in shots on goal. Colleen Derry netted her second goal of the young season in the 22nd minute on assists from Kristen Malpass and Karen Ruhlman. The hosts took a 2-0 lead into the intermission after senior defender Jessica Thomas scored her first career goal in the 33rd minute. It came unassisted on a shot from 20 yards out at the top of the box. Campbellsville put their only shot on goal when they converted a penalty kick in the 66th minute. The match remained close until Evonne Fearnot headed in her first career goal in the 86th minute with Erin Landers and Abby Price assisting. The visiting Tigers fall to 0-2. [STATS]
Aug. 29, at Geneva
Freshman midfielder Erin Landers tallied a goal and an assist to pace Cedarville to a 4-1 victory at Geneva. The Lady Jackets, 2-0 overall, have defeated the Golden Tornadoes in each of their last four meetings. Colleen Derry and Lisa Burgman gave CU a 2-0 lead with their first career goals. Landers set up Derry in the 12th minute while Karen Ruhlman assisted on Burgman's score in the 28th minute. Geneva, 1-2, cut the difference in half by the intermission with their lone goal in the 41st minute. Ruhlman notched her second assist on Landers' goal just seven minutes into the second period. Lisa Blackburn completed the scoring with a penalty kick in the 60th minute. Cedarville outshot the hosts 19-4 overall and 13-4 in shots on goal. Rookie goalkeeper Amber Laing played the entire match and was credited with three saves. [STATS]
Aug. 26, at Asbury
Abby Price scored one goal and assisted on the other as the Lady Jackets opened the season with a 2-0 non-conference victory at Asbury. It was the first-ever meeting in women's soccer between the two schools. Price broke a scoreless deadlock in the 48th minute with an assist from Colleen Derry. She later set up Lisa Blackburn, who got through on a breakaway and beat the keeper for CU's second tally in the 65th minute. It was Blackburn's 18th career goal. The Lady Jackets held a 15-4 advantage in shots overall and a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. Amber Laing was credited with three saves and the shutout in her collegiate debut. [STATS]
