May 6, CINCINNATI-CLERMONT
Matt Houchin tied the school record for the most hits in a season as the Yellow Jackets defeated Cincinnati-Clermont, 10-3, in a non-conference game. Cedarville, 21-28 overall, has won four of five and 11 of their last 15 games. Houchin was 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and four runs batted in to up his season RBI total to 46 which is just one shy of the school mark. His 55 hits matches the CU record set in 2004 by Jeff Lowe. Winning pitcher Clint Price pitched five innings and improved his record to 8-3. Andrew Lockridge worked the final four innings and was credited with a save. Tyler Rost was 3-for-4 with two RBI's. Brady Workman had a 3-for-5 effort with two runs scored and two RBI's while Matt Totten added two hits and two runs. [BOXSCORE]
April 28, at Urbana
Cedarville scored five runs after two were out in its final at bat to stun host Urbana, 6-5, to gain a split of their American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Blue Knights won the first game, 3-1. The Yellow Jackets, 20-28 overall and 8-18 AMC, were in dire straits trailing 5-1 entering the 7th inning. However, CU sent 10 batters to the plate, took advantage of five walks, and made the most of two hits to rally. Pete Kraus walked with the bases loaded, but it was Jordan Siefkes who delivered the big blow with a three-run double to the gap in right center to tie the score. Phil Cruz later beat out an infield single for an RBI to complete the scoring. Winning pitcher Andrew Lockridge worked the final three innings in relief and upped his record to 4-3. Kraus was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Paul Wilson slugged his fifth home run of the season and scored twice to break the school record (39) for the most runs scored in a season. April 26, RIO GRANDE
The Yellow Jackets established a new school record for the most victories in a season after claiming both games of an American Mideast Conference twinbill from Rio Grande. Cedarville won by scores of 12-11 and 10-8 to push its victory total to 19. It surpasses the previous mark of 18 which had been equaled four times the last of which was 1990. The high-scoring opener featured a 6th inning that lasted nearly an hour long and a combined 14 runs scored by both teams. The Redmen scored seven times to take a 10-5 lead before CU responded with seven runs after two were out to regain the advantage. Paul Wilson went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Tyler Rost added three hits, Matt Houchin drove in four runs, and Matt Totten scored three times. Six Yellow Jackets had at least two hits each as part of the team's 16-hit attack. Relief pitcher Rob Wasem was credited with the win and Houchin notched his fourth save of the year. Rio did bounce back to knot the count at 7-7 before the Jackets recovered for the victory. Wasem was came on in relief for his second win of the day and T.J. Taylor locked down the save. April 25, at Rio Grande
Rio Grande put a damper on Cedarville's winning trend by sweeping an American Mideast Conference doubleheader, 12-7 and 3-2. The Yellow Jackets, 17-27 overall and 5-17 AMC, entered the twinbill having won seven of their last eight games. The two teams were tied at 6-6 in the opener until the Redmen erupted for six runs in the 5th inning. CU outhit the hosts, 12-8, but stranded nine runners on base. Paul Wilson was 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI's, and two runs scored. Brady Workman was 3-for-4 and scored twice while Brandon Young drove in three runs. The Yellow Jackets scored their two runs in the 7th inning and their five hits for the game were singles from five different players. Cedarville again left nine runners on base. April 24, EARLHAM
Nathan Wallace and T.J. Taylor tossed complete-game three hitters and Matt Houchin drove in five runs to lead the Yellow Jackets to two victories over Earlham. Cedarville won by scores of 6-2 and 12-0. The visiting Quakers scored their only two runs of the day in their first at bat. The Jackets came back with three runs and never trailed again. Houchin doubled with two RBI's while Brandon Young had a two-run single. Matt Totten and Paul Wilson scored two runs each. Wallace struck out three batters and notched his first collegiate victory. April 22, SHAWNEE STATE
Jared Griest kept Shawnee State off balance for 6 1/3 innings to lead Cedarville to its four consecutive shutout, 2-0, in the first game of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Bears responded with a 9-3 win in game two. Griest allowed three hits and fanned four batters in posting his first victory of the spring. He retired 10 batters in a row in the middle part of the contest. Paul Wilson made his first appearance on the mound this season in the 7th inning and nailed down the final two outs for the save. The Yellow Jackets totaled three hits in the game and they scored two unearned runs in the 2nd inning on a two-out dropped fly ball with the bases loaded. Brandon Young doubled while Matt Houchin and Tyler Rost added singles. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Both teams had seven hits apiece in the nightcap, but the Bears were aided by 10 walks and a hit batter. April 19, MIAMI-MIDDLETOWN
Clint Price won his seventh game of the season as the Yellow Jackets blanked Miami-Middletown, 9-0, in a rain-shortened contest that was called after five innings. The second game of the non-conference doubleheader was rained out. Price improved to 7-3 after allowing three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Tyler Rost was 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI's and two runs scored. Brandon Young added a pair of hits including a double. Paul Wilson, Matt Houchin, and Micah Wilson contributed two hits apiece for Cedarville, 14-24 overall. [BOXSCORE]
April 18, INDIANA NORTHWEST
Cedarville racked up 32 runs on 32 hits against overmatched Indiana Northwest in a non-conference doubleheader sweep. The Yellow Jackets coasted 17-0 and 15-0 with both games halted after five innings by the 10-run mercy rule. Phil Cruz was 6-for-6 with six runs batted in for the day including four hits in the opener. Cedarville scored 11 runs in the 2nd inning and six more in the 3rd. A total of 12 Yellow Jackets had hits and the team totaled 20. Matt Houchin had three hits and four RBI's, Micah Wilson was 3-for-3, and Brandon Young was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Winning pitcher T.J. Taylor improved to 3-3 allowing two hits and striking out 12 batters. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] CU, 13-24 overall, put 12 runs on the board in their first at bat of game two. April 17, EARLHAM (Third Annual CU Classic; Fifth/Third Field, Dayton)
Matt Houchin homered, drove in three runs, and notched the save on the mound as the Yellow Jackets defeated Earlham, 9-6, before a crowd of over 700 in the Third Annual Cedarville Classic at Fifth Third Field. After the Quakers scored two runs in their first at bat, Houchin's RBI single in the bottom half of the frame put CU on the board. His solo home run in the 3rd inning into the screen in center field above the 402 marker tied the game at 2-2. Both teams then scored twice in the 5th inning. Brandon Young's two-out, two-run double just inside the third base bag kept it deadlocked at 4-4. The Yellow Jackets broke it open with four runs in the 6th. Jordan Shumaker singled home the go ahead run, Paul Wilson hammered a two-run double, and then later scored on a steal of third and an error. Earlham closed to within 8-6 in the 8th, but Houchin added an insurance run with another RBI single. Clint Price pitched three innings of relief to get the victory to improve to 6-3. Houchin worked the 9th and fanned three batters en route to his third save of the year for Cedarville, 11-24 overall. Houchin sparked Cedarville's 15-hit attack by finishing 3-for-4 with three RBI's. Brady Workman was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored; Shumaker finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs; Wilson totaled two hits, two runs, two RBI's, and two steals; and Young contributed a pair of hits and two RBI's. April 15, at Shawnee State
Shawnee State rallied for two runs in its final at bat to complete an American Mideast Conference sweep over the Yellow Jackets. The Bears claimed the nightcap, 7-6, after winning the opener, 6-1. In game two, Cedarville came off the mat with three runs after the first two batters were retired in the top of the 7th inning for a 6-5 lead. In the bottom half of the frame, however, the Bears squeezed in the tying run and then got a two-out RBI single for the winner. Matt Totten had a pair of hits and scored two runs. Matt Houchin recorded a double and three RBI's while Brady Workman and Brandon Young each added RBI doubles. April 12, URBANA
Matt Houchin's home run leading off the bottom of the 9th inning gave Cedarville a 3-2 victory over Urbana in the first game of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Blue Knights won the nightcap, 15-4. Houchin went down wind to the opposite field in left with his second homer of the season for the game winner. It was only the fourth hit of the contest for Cedarville. Paul Wilson had two hits and Pete Kraus delivered a two-run single in the opening frame. Clint Price pitched all nine innings and improved his record to 5-3. He struck out seven and walked two. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Yellow Jackets started off the second game in fine fashion. After Urbana scored two in the top of the 1st inning, Wilson answered with a two-run homer and Matt Totten added a two-run double for a 4-2 lead. It stayed that way until the Blue Knights, 16-12 overall and 7-4 AMC, erupted for nine runs in the 4th inning. Brandon Young was 3-for-3 at the plate with a double for Cedarville, 10-22 and 4-12 AMC. April 8, at Ohio Dominican
NAIA No. 23 Ohio Dominican swept the Yellow Jackets 10-0 and 7-2 in an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Panthers won all four games played between the two schools this spring. ODU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings of the opener. Five of their 12 hits were for extra bases while the Yellow Jackets were checked on four singles. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Panthers, 20-8 overall and 9-1 AMC, scored six times in their first two at bats of the nightcap for a 6-0 lead. Cedarville, 9-21 and 3-11 AMC, got its only runs of the day in the 3rd inning and had three hits total for the game. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
April 7, WILMINGTON
Pete Kraus drew a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the 9th inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-6 come-from-behind victory over Wilmington. Cedarville, 9-19 overall, spotted the Quakers five runs in their first at bat and never grabbed the lead until the game-ending base on balls. Brady Workman opened the frame with a bunt single and was sacrificed to second by Jordan Shumaker. Paul Wilson was intentionally walked and Workman moved to third on Matt Houchin's fly out to center. Brandon Young was intentionally walked to fill the bases and Kraus worked the count to 3-0, took a strike, and then took a low fast ball to end it. Workman was 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. His three-run double in the 4th inning tied the contest at 5-5. After Wilmington, 6-10, tallied a run in the 5th inning, Wilson hammered a solo home run to left to tie it again. Tyler Rost had three hits and Houchin added a double to CU's total of 11 hits. Andrew Lockridge pitched the final 8 1/3 innings to get the win and even his record at 2-2. He struck out six and allowed one earned run on five hits. [BOXSCORE]
April 5, NOTRE DAME
Freshman lefthander T.J. Taylor tossed a complete-game three-hitter and Cedarville rallied for a 5-3 win over Notre Dame to gain a split of their American Mideast Conference doubleheader. The Falcons put together a rally themselves to take the first game, 5-4, in nine innings. All of the scoring in the nightcap occurred in the 5th inning. After NDC plated three runs in the top of the frame, the Yellow Jackets scored five times on just one hit. CU had the bases loaded with nobody out and nearly didn't score at all. Matt Owens sprinted home on a two-out wild pitch and was called safe on a close play. Matt Houchin's routine fly ball to left center was misplayed for a two-run error. Pete Kraus reached on an infield error to keep the inning alive and Brandon Young's grounder was thrown into the first base dugout for another two-run error. Taylor struck out eight and walked three in seven innings to square his record at 2-2. Phil Cruz was 3-for-3 at the plate and Young added two hits including a double for CU, 8-19 overall and 3-9 AMC. April 2, OHIO DOMINICAN
NAIA No. 20 Ohio Dominican won both games of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader over the Yellow Jackets in the first games played on campus this spring. The scores were 11-3 and 8-1. Cedarville struck first in the opener with two runs in their first at bat on an RBI triple from Paul Wilson and a sacrifice fly by Matt Houchin. The Panthers came right back with seven runs in the 2nd inning to take the lead for good. ODU hammered 15 hits including seven doubles in the game. Wilson finished 2-for-3 and Brady Workman was 2-for-4 with a double. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The second contest was 1-1 after two innings and then ODU, 15-7 overall and 4-0 AMC, methodically pulled away. Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double for Cedarville, 7-18 and 2-8 AMC. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
March 29, at Malone
Malone used big innings in both games of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader to beat Cedarville twice at Thurman Munson Stadium. The Pioneers won by scores of 5-3 and 8-1. Malone broke up a 1-1 tie in the opener with four runs in the 4th inning. The Yellow Jackets outhit the hosts 9-8, but stranded 10 runners on base. Pete Kraus was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. Matt Houchin was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Tyler Rost was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The nightcap was also mired in a 1-1 deadlock until the 6th inning when Malone exploded for seven runs on eight hits. All but one of the 22 hits combined by both teams were singles. Houchin was 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the 1st inning and Paul Wilson had two hits. Cedarville, 7-16 overall and 2-6 AMC, left nine runners on base. Malone improved to 14-5 and 3-1 AMC. March 26, at Mount Vernon Nazarene
Mount Vernon Nazarene took both games of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets, 7-0 and 12-2. Cedarville was on the short end of the second perfect game pitched in MVNU school history. All 21 Yellow Jackets were retired in order - 10 by strikeout, two on ground outs, and nine in the air. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The second contest was tied 2-2 until the host Cougars, 10-7 overall and 2-0 AMC, scored five times in the 3rd inning. Another five-run effort in the 5th ended the contest by the 10-run mercy rule. Paul Wilson was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored. March 25, at Wright State
NCAA Division I Wright State scored in all but one inning and buried Cedarville 17-1 under the lights at Nischwitz Stadium. The host Raiders, 5-11 overall, pounded out 19 hits including nine that went for extra bases. The Raiders put nine runs on the board before the Jackets scored their only tally in the 6th inning. Cedarville, 7-12, produced two hits total on singles by Matt Totten and Brady Workman. The Yellow Jackets were able to draw seven walks and had three batters hit by a pitch, but they stranded 10 runners on base. [BOXSCORE]
March 24, POINT PARK (at AIA Complex)
The Yellow Jackets halted all sorts of skids when they swept an American Mideast Conference doubleheader from Point Park at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex. Cedarville ended a 26-game AMC losing streak with a 2-0 win in the opener. They completed their first conference twinbill sweep in four years, and their first doubleheader sweep of any kind in nearly two years, with a 5-3 victory in the nightcap. CU scratched out two runs in the first game and winning pitcher Clint Price tossed 6 2/3 innings to improve to 4-2. Phil Cruz beat out a bunt to score Matt Totten to begin the scoring in the 5th inning. Totten's sacrifice fly in the 6th scored Paul Wilson. Price struck out four and allowed four hits while Matt Houchin got the final out to record the save. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Yellow Jackets rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the second game by sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring all five of their runs in the 5th inning. Jordan Shumaker, who had two of Cedarville's six hits, delivered a two-run single to tie the contest. Wilson and Brandon Young followed with RBI doubles and Totten added another sacrifice fly. Winning pitcher Andrew Lockridge, 1-1, went 6 2/3 innings and Houchin came on for his second save of the day. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE] The Yellow Jackets, 7-11 overall and 2-2 AMC, last took both games of a conference doubleheader on April 23, 2004 when they beat Tiffin at home. Their last AMC win was in the 2006 season finale when they edged Shawnee State, 3-2, on April 29. CU's last twinbill sweep of any kind occurred on March 28, 2006 when they took care of Myers twice at home.
March 20, WALSH (at AIA Complex)
Cedarville opened the American Mideast Conference schedule by dropping both games of a doubleheader against defending NAIA Region IX champion Walsh. The Cavaliers limited the Yellow Jackets to just six hits on the day in registering back-to-back 11-0 wins. Game one was scoreless until the CU defense allowed an unearned run in the 4th inning and three more unearned in the 5th. The Cavs plated seven runs in the 6th which ended up being the last due to the 10-run mercy rule. Eight of their 11 runs were unearned. Paul Wilson and Matt Totten doubled while Phil Cruz beat out an infield single for the Yellow Jackets. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Walsh, 7-7 overall, enjoyed five-run innings in the 2nd and 3rd to blow it open. Six of the Cavalier's 12 hits went for extra bases. March 17, CONCORDIA (Mich.) (at AIA Complex)
Concordia swept a non-conference doubleheader from the host Yellow Jackets by scores of 3-2 and 9-2. The twinbill was played at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex. The Cardinals needed 11 innings to outlast Cedarville in the opener. The Jackets scored both of their runs in the 3rd inning when Concordia misplayed a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Shumaker into a two-run throwing error. The Cards plated a run in the 4th, tied it with a sacrifice fly in the 7th, and then pushed across the winner in the 11th on a bases loaded walk. CU could muster only six hits and they stranded 12 runners on base. Matt Houchin, Brandon Young, and Matt Totten each doubled. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, Cedarville got on the board with a run in the 1st inning, but Concordia, 9-1 overall, took over with four runs in the 3rd. March 14 GRACE (at AIA Complex)
Clint Price tossed a complete game and struck out seven batters in the process as the Yellow Jackets defeated Grace, 9-2, at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex. It's the third time that CU has beaten the Lancers this season. The second game was not played because of fog. The Yellow Jackets, 5-7 overall, broke open a tight contest by scoring five times in the 5th inning. Cedarville totaled nine hits and took advantage of seven walks. Price improved to 3-2 with the victory. He allowed two unearned runs on six hits and walked one batter. Paul Wilson sparked the offense by going 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and three stolen bases. Jordan Shumaker doubled in two runs and Matt Houchin added a double. [BOXSCORE]
March 8, Northwestern (Clearwater Invitational)
Cedarville ended its stay at the Clearwater Invitational with a 9-5 setback to Northwestern (Iowa). The contest took two days to complete because of rain. The Yellow Jackets enjoyed a 5-1 lead, but the Red Raiders got a run in the bottom of the 4th, two more in the 5th, and then won it by scoring five runs in the 6th after the first two batters were retired. Paul Wilson was 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBI's. Jordan Siefkes also added a double. The Yellow Jackets came up with just five hits total. [BOXSCORE]
March 8, Grace (Clearwater Invitational)
Matt Houchin doubled home the go ahead run in the bottom of the 6th inning to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-5 win over Grace. The Lancers bounced back from a 5-2 deficit to tie it. Houchin finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI's. Matt Owens was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and Jordan Siefkes had two hits. March 7, Indiana Wesleyan (Clearwater Invitational)
Indiana Wesleyan had the winning hand in a 3-1 pitchers' duel. Andrew Lockridge went the distance for Cedarville allowing three earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Pete Kraus tripled in a run the lone run for the Yellow Jackets. Matt Houchin singled and scored with other hits coming from Nate Wilson and Joshua Chamberlin. [BOXSCORE]
March 5, Evangel (Clearwater Invitational)
Evangel scored in every inning in a 13-2 drubbing of Cedarville in a game called after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. Seven of the Crusaders' 13 hits went for extra bases including five home runs. Paul Wilson stroked a double while Matt Totten and Micah Wilson added singles to account for the Yellow Jackets' three hits. [BOXSCORE]
March 4, Robert Morris (Clearwater Invitational)
Cedarville rallied with three runs in the 4th inning and four more in the 5th to post a 10-5 victory over Robert Morris (Ill.). The Yellow Jackets made the most of eight singles and 12 walks to take the win. Brandon Young tallied a pair of two-run singles, Matt Tottan had two hits and three RBI's, and Tyler Rost added two hits. Phil Cruz and Paul Wilson stole two bases apiece. Freshman T.J. March 4, Hannibal-LaGrange (Clearwater Invitational)
The Jackets managed just four hits against Hannibal-LaGrange in falling, 9-3. The Trojans hammered out 13 hits and never trailed in the contest. Brady Workman got Cedarville on the board with a two-run homer. Paul Wilson doubled with singles coming off the bats of Brandon Young and Matt Totten. [BOXSCORE]
March 3, Grace (Clearwater Invitational)
Cedarville jumped on Grace for eight runs in the first three innings and coasted to a 9-1 victory. Matt Totten paced the offense by going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI's. Brandon Young doubled twice and scored twice while Matt Houchin added two hits. Winning pitcher Colby Stoltzfus checked the Lancers on two hits in 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. [BOXSCORE]
March 3, Evangel (Clearwater Invitational)
The Yellow Jackets opened play at the Clearwater Invitational with a 7-1 setback to Evangel. Paul Wilson scored Cedarville's only run after he doubled and later came across on a ground out by Matt Houchin. Brady Workman had a double as one of the Jackets' six hits. [BOXSCORE]

Cedarville erupted for an 18-3 win over Florida College in the first game of a doubleheader to give Mike Manes his first victory as head coach of the Yellow Jackets. The host Falcons rallied to take game two, 13-5. Brady Workman and Joshua Chamberlin each belted three-run homers to spark the offense in the opener. Matt Totten had a pair of hits and drove in three runs while Jordan Shumaker added three RBI's. CU assembled 13 hits total. Starting pitcher Clint Price worked six innings allowing three earned runs in picking up the win. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] The Yellow Jackets were poised to sweep the twinbill by taking a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning. FC, 4-10 overall, responded with 11 runs in the frame to take the win. Feb. 25, at Asbury
Asbury jumped out to a big lead and went on to defeat Cedarville, 9-5, in the season opener for the Yellow Jackets. The Eagles, 1-2 overall, scored three runs in the 2nd inning and five more in the 4th for an 8-0 advantage. CU finally got on the board in the 6th on a two-run double by Matt Houchin. After Asbury tacked on its final run in the bottom half of the frame, the Jackets added two runs in the 8th and one more in the 9th. Houchin was 3-for-4 at the plate with a stolen base while Paul Wilson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, three steals, and an RBI. Freshman Nate Wilson came off the bench with a pair of hits and a run scored in his collegiate debut. [BOXSCORE]
