Nov. 17, at NAIA Nationals
Jud Brooker placed 61st out of 258 runners at the NAIA Championship where the Yellow Jackets finished 25th as a team. American Mideast Conference member Malone cruised to the team title with a 143-point victory. Brooker covered the 8,000 meters in 25:57. The rest of the Cedarville line-up featured Rob Trennepohl (181st; 26:56), Jordan Davies (182nd; 26:56), Kevin Kuhn (204th; 27:16), T.J. Badertscher (213th; 27:20), Seth Campbell (226th; 27:32), and Joshua Saunders (237th; 27:53). [RESULTS]
Nov. 10, NCCAA NATIONALS
Jud Brooker and T.J. Badertscher picked up All-America honors as the NAIA No. 24 Yellow Jackets placed 4th of 22 schools at the NCCAA Championships. NAIA No. 1 ranked Malone cruised to victory at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course with 30 points. No. 17 Indiana Wesleyan had 63 points, No. 18 MidAmerica Nazarene finished with 91 points, and Cedarville totaled 97. The top 15 finishers are labeled NCCAA All-Americans and Brooker was 7th of 156 competitors in 25:40 for the 8,000 meters. Badertscher placed 12th in 25:58. Other Yellow Jackets to score were Kevin Kuhn (20th; 26:29), Rob Trennepohl (30th; 26:49), and Jordan Davies (37th; 27:02). Also, Joshua Saunders was 43rd in 27:17 and Matt Silveira was 51st in 27:40. Kuhn, Saunders, and Trennepohl were recognized as NCCAA Scholar-Athletes. Nov. 3, at AMC/NAIA Region IX Championship
Cedarville edged NAIA No. 12 Shawnee State for the runner-up spot at the AMC/NAIA Region IX Championship at Walsh University. The outcome may have given the Yellow Jackets an at-large berth to the NAIA Nationals in Kenosha, Wis. on Nov. 17. With unanimous NAIA No. 1 Malone in the field, everyone else was running for 2nd place as the Pioneers cruised to their 15th straight conference title with 24 points. CU finished with 69 points while the Bears tallied 70. Jud Brooker placed 3rd in 25:39 for the 8,000 meters. It also landed him on the All-AMC First Team for finishing in the top seven. T.J. Badertscher was 10th in 26:25 while Kevin Kuhn finished 13th in 26:36. They earned spots on the All-AMC Second Team. Rob Trennepohl garnered honorable mention recognition with his 18th-place showing in 26:49. Oct. 20, at Southeastern Classic
The Yellow Jackets made an impressive showing at the Southeastern Classic with a 3rd-place finish. NAIA No. 1 Malone won the 22-team event with 22 points, Union (Tenn.) had 69 points, and Cedarville tallied 110. Rounding out the top five were Bryan, 112; and Shorter, 155. Jud Brooker covered the 8,000 meters in 26:26 to finish 11th of 191 runners. T.J. Badertscher was 13th in 26:34. Others to score for the Yellow Jackets were Rob Trennepohl (26th; 27:29), Seth Campbell (28th; 27:35), and Josh Wiseman (40th; 28:03). Elsewhere, Matt Silveira was 42nd in 28:15 and Chris Vaughn was 44th in 28:19. [RESULTS]
Oct. 5, at All-Ohio Intercollegiate
NAIA No. 20 Cedarville ran without its top runner and struggled to a 17th-place performance out of 39 schools at the Ohio Intercollegiate Championship. The Yellow Jackets finished 5th of 10 teams in the NAIA/NCAA Division II competition. No. 1 runner Jud Brooker, who was injured in each of the past two years on what is regarded as the toughest course on the schedule, was held out of the race. Two freshmen responded to set the pace for CU. T.J. Badertscher placed 55th out of 259 runners in 27:35 for the 8,000 meters and Jordan Davies was 84th in 28:12. Other Yellow Jacket runners were Rob Trennepohl (91st; 28:19), Kevin Kuhn (100th; 28:31), Josh Wiseman (126th; 28:59), Matt Silveira (149th; 29:26), and Seth Campbell (152nd; 29:29). American Mideast Conference member and NAIA No. 1 Malone easily won the overall team title with 32 points. No. 15 Shawnee State was tied for 9th with 288 points and Cedarville was 17th at 450. Sept. 22, FIRST CEDARVILLE OPEN
The NAIA No. 23 Yellow Jackets copped the first three places led by individual champion Jud Brooker as they won the Cedarville Open. CU tallied 22 points to outdistance runner-up Taylor (71) and third-place Baldwin-Wallace (82). A total of nine teams competed in the inaugural event. Brooker covered the 8,000 meters in 26:08 during the hot and humid morning weather. Kevin Kuhn was 2nd in 26:34 and freshman T.J. Badertscher was 3rd in 26:35. Others to score were Seth Campbell (9th; 26:59) and rookie Jordan Davies (11th; 27:01). Closing out the top seven were Rob Trennepohl (17th; 27:33) and Matt Silveira (19th; 27:43). [RESULTS]
Sept. 15, 17th Annual CEDARVILLE INVITATIONAL
NAIA No. 21 Shawnee State took the title from the No. 20 Yellow Jackets at the 17th Annual Cedarville Invitational. A total of 19 teams participated at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course with the Bears posting 41 points, CU tallied 68, and 3rd-place Denison had 71. Jud Brooker finished 3rd out of 180 runners after covering the 8,000 meters in 25:58. Seth Campbell was 12th in 26:25 while rookie T.J. Badertscher was 13th in 26:26. Rob Trennepohl placed 21st in 26:53 and rookie Jordan Davies was 24th in 27:02. Completing the top seven were Matt Silveira (31st; 27:11) and Joshua Saunders (56th; 27:54). [RESULTS]
Sept. 8, at Queen City Invitational
Jud Brooker placed 4th in 15:43 and Kevin Kuhn was 5th in 15:44 as the NAIA No. 15 Yellow Jackets opened the season at the 5K Queen City Invitational. Cedarville finished 4th of 5 teams. Brooker was just 14 seconds behind the individual champion with Kuhn only a second slower. Two freshmen launched their collegiate careers by figuring into the scoring. T.J. Badertscher was 18th in 16:16 and Jordan Davies was 25th in 16:31. Seth Campbell placed 20th in 16:18. Cincinnati won the meet with 38 points. The Bearcats were followed by Northern Kentucky (51), Xavier (60), Cedarville (72), and Berea (148). [RESULTS]
