Oct. 23, at Mount Vernon Nazarene
Mount Vernon Nazarene claimed a share of the AMC South Division title with a 5-1 victory over the Lady Jackets. Cedarville ends the season 4-12-1 overall and 2-3-1 AMC. The Cougars, 12-4-1 and 5-1 AMC, netted three goals in the first half for a 3-0 advantage at the intermission. Kelly Wise scored her sixth goal of the season in the 57th minute on assists from Bethany Wailes and Kristin Merkel. MVNU completed the scoring in the 77th and 79th minutes. Amber Laing recorded 12 saves in 90 minutes of action. The Cougars attempted 28 total shots with 18 on goal compared to four shots from Cedarville with three on goal. [STATS]
Oct. 20, at Houghton
Cedarville surprised perennial NAIA power Houghton with an early goal, but the Highlanders rebounded for a 3-1 victory. Katie Koch perfectly placed the Lady Jackets' only shot on goal into the net in the 5th minute for her seventh score of the season. Houghton, an AMC North Division member and 10-2-2 overall, got the equalizer in the 26th minute. It was 1-1 at the intermission and the Highlanders netted goals in the 52nd and 73rd minutes to account for the final. Amber Laing made six saves for Cedarville, 4-11-1. The hosts had the distinct advantage in overall shots (22-3) and shots on goal (9-1). [STATS]
Oct. 19, at Roberts Wesleyan
Roberts Wesleyan found the net in the 48th minute and held on blank the Lady Jackets, 1-0, in a match involving American Mideast Conference members. The North Division Raiders square their record at 8-8 while Cedarville, residents of the South Division, falls to 4-10-1. Junior goalkeeper Amber Laing was kept busy totaling eight saves. Roberts Wesleyan held the advantage in overall shots by 16-7 margin and in shots in goal, 9-3. [STATS]
Oct. 16, RIO GRANDE
Kelly Wise tallied two goals and an assist to lead Cedarville to a 4-0 AMC South Division victory over Rio Grande in the final home match of the 2007 campaign. The Lady Jackets, 4-9-1 overall and 2-2-1 AMC, equaled their season-high for most goals in a game. They also defeated Geneva and Asbury by 4-0 margins. CU honored its only senior, defender and co-captain Kristin Merkel, prior to the match and then proceeded to control the play from the opening kickoff. Jaimie Watkins finished off a rebound in the 9th minute with Wise assisting. Wise in turn tucked in a pass from Lisa Burgman in the 30th minute for a 2-0 lead at the intermission. Wise stole the ball from the Redwomen defense in the 55th minute and buried her fifth goal of the season. Katie Koch slotted home her sixth goal in the 69th minute off a feed from Lindsay Raybuck to complete the scoring. Cedarville held shot advantages of 31-3 overall and 15-2 on goal. Amber Laing made two saves and was credited with her fourth shutout. Rio Grande falls to 4-10 and 0-4 AMC. [STATS]
Oct. 13, at Tiffin
NCAA Division II Tiffin got a goal in the 84th minute to outlast the Lady Jackets, 2-1, in a non-conference match. The Dragons, 10-5 overall, scored in the 36th minute. The 1-0 differential stayed that way until Jaimie Watkins netted her first career goal in the 79th minute on an assist from Lisa Burgman to knot the score. Tiffin responded just five minutes later with the winner. Junior goalkeeper Amber Laing was kept busy by making 13 saves. Cedarville drops to 3-9-1 for the season. [STATS]
Oct. 9, at Urbana
Urbana pinned a 2-1 AMC South Division setback on Cedarville with a goal late in the second overtime. The Lady Jackets, 3-8-1 overall and 1-2-1 AMC, have played four overtime games this fall resulting in a tie and three losses. Both teams scored early to forge a 1-1 tie. The Blue Knights needed just 82 seconds to get on the board. Katie Koch responded in the 8th minute with her fifth goal of the campaign on an assist from Kristin Merkel. The score remained deadlocked until the 107th minute when Urbana got the game winner to improve to 12-2 and 3-1 AMC. [STATS]
Oct. 5, SHAWNEE STATE
Sophomore forward Kelly Wise scored the game's only goal and junior goalkeeper Amber Laing got the shutout as CU blanked Shawnee State, 1-0, in an AMC South Division match on Homecoming Weekend. The Lady Jackets came up with their goal late in the first half. Jaimie Watkins drilled a shot off of the left post and Wise was in the right place in front to finish off the ricochet in the 42nd minute. Laing recorded her third shutout of the season after making five saves. Cedarville, 3-7-1 overall and 1-1-1 AMC, had a slim 17-16 edge in overall shots and a 9-5 margin in shots on goal. The visiting Bears, 6-4-1 and 0-2 AMC, hammered two balls off of the crossbar in the second period. [STATS]
Oct. 2, at Ohio Dominican
NAIA No. 13 Ohio Dominican got all they needed with a goal in the 39th minute for a 1-0 decision over CU in an AMC South Division match. The Panthers improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 AMC. Ohio Dominican controlled nearly every phase of the match with a whopping 27-1 bulge in shots and a 10-0 margin in shots on goal. The hosts also had a 9-1 edge in corner kicks. Amber Laing made nine saves in goal for the Lady Jackets, 2-7-1 and 0-1-1. [STATS]
Sept. 29, WALSH
The Lady Jackets continued their inexplicable success against Walsh with a 1-1 tie in two overtimes in AMC South Division action. Cedarville is 7-1-3 in the all-time series against the Cavaliers. Katie Koch scored her fourth goal of the season in the 12th minute. She took a long pass from Kelly Wise and nailed a 20-yarder with her left foot inside the right post. Walsh, 7-3-2 and 1-2-1 AMC, netted the equalizer in the 30th minute. The Cavaliers, who outshot the hosts 19-11 overall and 5-4 in shots on goal, later put a ball off the post and another off the cross bar. The Jackets watched their record go to 2-6-1 overall in their conference opener. Amber Laing was credited with four saves. [STATS]
Sept. 22, ASBURY
Kelly Wise netted two goals while Katie Koch added a goal and two assists to lead the Lady Jackets to a 4-0 non-conference victory against Asbury. The outcome ended a five-game losing streak for Cedarville, 2-6 overall. Wise buried a 25-yard shot in the 29th minute off a throw in by Megan Spring for the first goal of the match. Freshman Jessica Rarick chipped her first collegiate goal over the keeper's head in the 37th minute on an assist from Koch. The Jackets made it 3-0 in the 58th minute when Koch tucked a shot just inside the far post on a pass from Lisa Burgman. Wise headed home her second goal of the contest in the 61st minute with assists from Koch and Jamie Widman. Asbury, 3-5, held a 16-15 edge in overall shots, but Cedarville had a sizable 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Amber Laing made four saves for her second shutout of the season. [STATS]
Sept. 15, GRACE
Grace pulled out an even non-conference battle 15 minutes into overtime for a 2-1 victory against host Cedarville. The Lancers, 2-4 overall, broke a scoreless tie in the 63rd minute. CU was awarded a penalty kick nine minutes later when Katie Koch was taken down in the box. Senior co-captain Kristin Merkel was successful on the PK to knot the score which led to extra sessions. The match-up was about as equal as possible. Both teams managed three shots in the first half, eight apiece in the second period, and two each in the first OT. Grace got off the only shot in the second overtime resulting in the game winner. The Jackets dropped their fifth straight match to fall to 1-6. [STATS]
Sept. 13, at Taylor
Taylor made the most of its opportunities in a 2-0 non-conference win against visiting Cedarville. It was the fourth straight setback for the injury-riddled Lady Jackets, 1-5 overall. The Trojans, 2-3, got all they needed with a goal in the 32nd minute. They netted an insurance tally in the 58th minute. Each team totaled 11 shots while Taylor had an 8-6 edge in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Amber Laing played all 90 minutes and was credited with six saves. [STATS]
Sept. 8, WILMINGTON
Wilmington remained unbeaten with a 3-0 win over the host Lady Jackets with all three goals coming in the first 30 minutes. The Quakers, 4-0 overall, took command early with two scores before the contest was 10 minutes old. Wilmington got on the board in the 5th and 10th minutes before adding the third tally in the 31st minute. Cedarville, 1-4 with its third straight setback, was outshot 9-1 in the first half and 3-2 in the second. The Quakers had a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. [STATS]
Sept. 6, at Campbellsville
Katie Koch scored Cedarville's lone goal on an assist from Lindsay Raybuck, but it wasn't enough as host Campbellsville edged the Lady Jackets, 2-1, in a non-conference match. The host Tigers, 1-2 overall, tallied a goal just before the intermission in the 44th minute to take the lead for good. The hosts made it a two-goal bulge in the 55th minute before Koch netted her second score of the season three minutes later. Amber Laing was credited with seven saves in goal. The Lady Jackets, playing without the services of five starters due to injury, drop to 1-3 for the season. [STATS]
Sept. 1, SAINT FRANCIS (Ind.) (Cedarville Classic)
Kristin Merkel put the Lady Jackets on the board first, but Saint Francis (Ind.) bounced back for a 2-1 win over the Lady Jackets in double overtime to wrap up the Cedarville Classic. Merkel scored in the 13th minute when the Cougar goalkeeper misplayed her free kick for a goal. It stayed 1-0 until USF, 2-3 overall, found the net in the 48th minute. The visitors posted a whopping 26-2 shot advantage for the match and 12-2 bulge in shots on goal. They finally secured the winner 14 minutes into overtime. [STATS]
Aug. 31, GENEVA (Cedarville Classic)
It was all Lady Jackets in the Cedarville Classic opener against Geneva as Allyson Castle tallied two goals and two assists in a 4-0 victory. Katie Koch added a goal and an assist, Lisa Burgman scored once, and Jamie Widman contributed an assist. Amber Laing had four saves in goal for the shutout. [STATS]
Aug. 28, at Indiana Wesleyan
NAIA No. 25 Indiana Wesleyan scored three times early and rolled to an 8-0 non-conference victory over the Lady Jackets in CU's season opener. Unfortunately for the Jackets it was the largest setback in the program's 11-year history since losing 7-0 to Wilmington in Cedarville's first season of women's soccer. The Wilcats, 2-0, found the net twice in a span of 37 seconds in the 8th minute. It was 3-0 at the break before IWU blew the match open with four goals within a 15-minute window midway through the second period. The hosts had a 31-2 shot advantage overall and it was 25-1 in shots on goal. The 17 saves credited to goalkeeper Brianne Barnes was the fifth-highest mark in school history. [STATS]
