Ensslen is NCCAA Outstanding Performer

MARION, Ind. (5-3-2008) - Sarah Ensslen set a school and meet record, won three events, and tied for second in another while being voted the Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the NCCAA Outdoor Championship. The Lady Jackets finished as the runner-up out of 14 schools.

Ensslen won the long jump with a school and meet record effort of 19-feet 6-inches. She claimed her fourth triple jump title at 40-10.50 and tied for 2nd in the high jump at 5-3. Ensslen was also part of the winning 4 x 100 meter relay unit with Bethany Davies, younger sister Johanna Ensslen, and Mandy Montzka in 48.53.

Courtney Reid won her third straight 100 meter hurdles title with a school and meet record time of 14.44 seconds. She repeated as the 400 meter hurdles champion in 1:02.53 and joined Davies, Johanna Ensslen, and Montzka to win the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:00.24.

Elisabeth Pyles copped the 3,000 meter steeplechase for the third straight time in 11:06.96. Davies was a winner in the 800 meters in 2:14.89.

Other All-Americans (top three finishers) included Lydia Wong in the 800 (2nd; 2:15.67) and 1,500 (2nd; 4:39.11); Brittany Simpson in the 5,000 (2nd; 17:56.56) and 1,500 (3rd; 4:45.31); Nicole Santos in the 10,000 (2nd; 38:06.15) and 5,000 (3rd; 17:59.07); and Tara Leaman in the javelin (2nd; 131-2).

Malone won the team banner with 158 points while Cedarville tallied 152. Host Indiana Wesleyan was 3rd with 126 points. [RESULTS - PHOTO GALLERY by Matt Franz]

Lady Jackets repeat as AMC Champions

Sarah Ensslen was the Outstanding Field Performer at the AMC Championship.

CANTON, Ohio (4-19-2008) - Sarah Ensslen set two AMC records and was named the Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet as Cedarville repeated as American Mideast Conference champions. She was one of five Lady Jackets to win two individual events and Jeff Bolender was voted the AMC Coach of the Year.

Ensslen won the triple jump with a mark of 40-feet 10.25-inches and took the long jump title at 18-8.50. Both were new meet records. She was also part of the 4 x 100 meter relay unit along with Bethany Davies, Courtney Reid, and Marla Rice that finished 2nd in a school-record time of 48.52 seconds that met the automatic NAIA qualifying standard.

Reid won the 100 meter hurdles in 14.86 seconds and the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.21. Her time of 14.82 in the 100 meter hurdle prelims qualified her for the NAIA. Tara Leaman was an automatic qualifier in the javelin with her winning heave of 134-1. She also won the discus at 136-2.

Elisabeth Pyles won both the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:17.85) and the 5,000 meters (17:57.73). Lydia Wong was victorious in the 800 (2:15.51) and 1,500 (4:50.63). Davies set a new school record in winning the 400 meters in 56.95 seconds. She teamed up with Wong, Rice, and Brittany Simpson to win the 4 x 800 meter relay with an NAIA automatic qualifying time of 9:33.80.

Cedarville totaled 214.33 points to edge host Malone by three points. Notre Dame College was third in the eight-team field with 138 points while Walsh had 111. [RESULTS - PHOTO GALLERY by Matt Franz]

Ensslen leads CU trio at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (4-12-2008) - Sarah Ensslen placed 6th in the triple jump and met the NAIA qualifying mark in the long jump to pace the Lady Jackets at the Tennessee Relays.

Ensslen, the defending NAIA outdoor triple jump champion, had a performance of 41-feet 5-inches which finished 6th of 30 competitors. She also qualified for the NAIA long jump with a leap of 18-10.50 which placed 18th of 30.

Lydia Wong automatically qualified in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:41.49. Bethany Davies finished in the middle of the field in the 800 meters in 2:19.34. The meet consisted predominantly of NCAA Division I schools. [RESULTS]

CU has six All-Americans; ties for 6th at NAIA

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (3-8-2008) - Bethany Davies, Keri Hilty, and Courtney Reid earned All-America recognition in two events each and three other Lady Jackets were honored as well at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championship. Cedarville tied for 6th place as a team.

The top six finishers in each event are All-Americans and Davies finished 3rd in the 600 meters in 1:34.04 while Hilty was 5th in 1:35.50. Reid placed 5th in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.10 seconds. The trio teamed up with freshman Mandy Montzka to finish 3rd in the 4 x 400 meter relay in a school-record time of 3:49.75.

Lydia Wong broke her own school record in the mile with a runner-up mark of 4:54.79. Nicole Santos was CU's other All-American finishing 5th in the 5,000 meters in 17:47.34.

Elsewhere, Elisabeth Pyles was 7th in the 5K in 17:54.34 and Emily Flores ended up 13th in the pole vault by clearing 10-feet 11.75-inches. Montzka was 6th in her prelim heat of the 400 meters in 1:00.14 and Stacey Keller placed 6th in her heat of the mile in 5:18.42.

Wayland Baptist (Tex.) won the team championship with 71 points to nip runner-up Azusa Pacific (Calif.), 70. Simon Fraser (B.C.) totaled 59 points and was followed by Oklahoma Baptist, 47; Black Hills State (S.D.), 35; and Cedarville and McKendree (Ill.) tied with 26 points each.
