Sisters Julie (left) and Bonnie Schaefer formed the primary battery combination for the 1998 Lady Jacket softball team. Julie, a senior catcher, worked all 157 innings behind the plate this spring and also posted a .246 batting average. Bonnie, a junior, pitched 127 1/3 innings with a team-low 4.01 earned run average. She also ranked second on the team in hitting with a .297 mark. The Schaefers were NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athletes as well as Mid-Ohio Conference Scholar-Athletes.
Freshman centerfielder Maria Lattanzio was an All-Mid-Ohio Conference honorable mention performer. She paced the team in hitting and ranked sixth in the MOC with a .413 batting average. She became only the sixth player in Lady Jacket softball history to hit over .400 for a single season. Lattanzio also ranked first on the squad in hits (31), runs scored (13), and triples (2), and she tied for first in doubles (5) and stolen bases (4).
Sophomore shortstop Becky Summers eludes a sliding Urbana University baserunner while attempting to turn a doubleplay. She was a part of five DP's during the season. Summers, a two-year starter, batted leadoff with a team-high 15 walks to go along with 12 runs scored.
Junior outfielder Noella Fisher started all 25 games during the 1998 campaign. The California native, who batted .232, tied for the team lead with five doubles.
Senior and four-year letter winner Andrea Butz prepares to deliver a pitch during an 8-2 home win over MOC power Urbana University. Primarily a first baseman, the righthander notched the victory in this game in what was her last of three pitching appearances during the season.
