May 6-7, at American Mideast Conference
The Jacket linksters had their most disappointing tournament of the season by placing seventh out of seven schools at the American Mideast Conference Championships. They were coming off of their best effort of the season which was a runner-up showing in their own invitational where they knocked off three AMC opponents. Matt Dunn paced Cedarville at the AMC with a score of 82-82-79-243 for the 54 holes. [AMC GOLF RESULTS]
April 27, 18th ANNUAL CEDARVILLE INVITATIONAL
Cedarville sophomore Matt Dunn took medalist honors at the 18th Annual Cedarville College Men's Golf Invitational at Country Club of the North while Shawnee State University copped the team title. Dunn Ohio carded a one-under par 71 to become the third Yellow Jacket golfer to win the tournament. Shawnee State totalled 298 strokes to win by 17 shots over Cedarville which finished at 315. The rest of the field included Walsh University (317), the University of Findlay (321), Tiffin University (322), and Mount Vernon Nazarene College (324). Mike Poelzer finished fifth with a 76. Other Yellow Jacket scores were Joe Mulvaney (81), Russ Toms (87), and Jon Murphy (88). Dunn joins former Cedarville players Bill Boulet and Tom Greve as medalists of the event. Boulet turned in a two-under par 69 in the first tournament in 1982 while Greve's winning number was a 73 in 1984. Both of those rounds came at Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield. April 23-24, at Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed seventh out of nine schools at the 36-hole Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational with a 654 total at the Apple Valley Golf Club. Malone College won the event by 26 shots with a 612. Matt Dunn's 80-76-156 paced Cedarville. Other scores were Russ Toms (85-79-164), Mike Poelzer (81-85-166), Joe Mulvaney (86-82-168), and Jon Murphy (95-90-185).
April 19, at Walsh Invitational
The Yellow Jackets finished seventh out of 11 schools at the Walsh Invitational played at the Tam O'Shanter Golf Club. Otterbein won the five-count-four event with a 302 total while Cedarville had a 322. Russ Toms placed fifth individually with a career-low 75. Other Yellow Jacket scores were Matt Dunn (79), Joe Mulvaney (82), Jon Murphy (86), and Mike Poelzer (87).
April 13, at Urbana Quad
Cedarville placed third out of four schools at the Urbana Quad. Ohio Valley won the match at 323 and was followed by Urbana "A" (324), Cedarville (333), and Urbana "B" (383). The scores for the Yellow Jackets included Matt Dunn 78, Russ Toms 83, Joe Mulvaney 85, Mike Poelzer 87, and Jon Murphy 92.
April 8, CEDARVILLE TRI-MATCH
Urbana recorded a 312 to outshoot Cedarville (321) and Wilmington (336) at the Reid Park North Course in Springfield. Yellow Jacket scores included Matt Dunn (77), Russ Toms (81), Mike Poelzer (81), Joe Mulvaney (82), and Jon Murphy (82).
April 5, at Shawnee State Invitational
Cedarville placed 5th out of 10 with a 331 total at the Shawnee State Invitational played at the Elks Country Club. The host Bears won it at 312. Matt Dunn paced the Yellow Jackets with a 79 and was joined by Jon Murphy (81), Mike Poelzer (85), Joe Mulvaney (86), and Russ Toms (91).
April 1, at Urbana Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed fifth out of eight schools at the Urbana Invitational in their season opener played at the Woodland Golf Club. Shawnee State won the event with a 309 total and was followed by Tiffin 316, Urbana 319, Miami-Middletown 342, and Cedarville 343. Freshman Mike Poelzer carded a 77 and tied for second individually to lead the Jackets in his collegiate debut. Other scores for Cedarville included Matt Dunn (83), Russ Toms (90), Jon Murphy (93), and Kyle Beard (99).
