The rebuilding process continues for the Cedarville College men's golf program. One senior, three sophomores, and two freshmen make up the roster for the 1999 Yellow Jackets, but the talent is present to be competitive.
"It's obvious that our team remains very young," admitted Jim Kragel, who begins his fifth season as head coach. "We don't have the depth that some of the programs have that we face, but we do have some players that on a given day can shoot some low scores."
The sophomore threesome of Russ Toms, Matt Dunn, and Joe Mulvaney are the lone returning players. They each saw significant varsity time as freshmen and now will be expected to step to the forefront this spring.

Toms finished 1998 with the lowest 18-hole average at 81.1. He carded a 78 in his collegiate debut and the completed the season by leading the squad at the Mid-Ohio Conference Championships. Dunn averaged 81.3 and it could have easily been lower. He turned in seven scores of 80 or lower including a 77 in his opening match. Mulvaney was entrenched in the third spot and averaged 85.1. His season-low round was a 79. Jonathan Murphy, the lone senior on the team, along with freshmen Kyle Beard and Mike Poelzer round out the roster. All three should see time on the varsity throughout the season.
"The key to golf, and any sport for that matter, is to show improvement," Kragel summarized. "We've improved each year, yet the conference has improved as well. Tough competition will provide good experience for us."
Highlighting the schedule is the 18th Annual Cedarville College Invitational. It will be played on April 27 at the Country Club of the North in Beavercreek. The schedule winds down with the American Mideast Conference Championships on May 6-7 at the Apple Valley Golf Club in Mount Vernon.
