May 12, Indiana Wesleyan (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Indiana Wesleyan ended Cedarville's season with a 7-3 win in the losers' bracket final of the NCCAA Midwest Regional. The Jackets had shocked IWU 14-13 on Thursday by scoring five runs in their final at bat. This time, the Wildcats bolted to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Bryan Mangin went 2-for-4 and scored a run. [GAME BOXSCORE]
May 12, at Spring Arbor (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Host and top seed Spring Arbor handcuffed Cedarville, 4-1, in the NCCAA Midwest Region winners' bracket final. Samuel Hutchins was 3-for-3 and the only other hit for the Jackets was a double off the bat of Bryan Mangin. Cedarville's lone run came when Tim Sastic scored on Matt Schroeder's fielders choice in the sixth inning. [GAME BOXSCORE]
May 11, Indiana Wesleyan (NCCAA Midwest Regional)
Bryan Mangin's two-run single capped a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning that gave Cedarville a 14-13 win over Indiana Wesleyan in the opening round of the NCCAA Midwest Regional at Spring Arbor. The Yellow Jackets used a seven-run fourth inning to recover from an 8-2 hole, but they found themselves trailing again, 13-9, heading in to their final at bat. They took advantage of two errors and three hits to score five times with one out. Mangin's two RBI's gives him a school record 34 for the season. Matt Schroeder and Drew Bennett each had three hits and three RBI's while Samuel Hutchins added two hits. Scott VanDerAa, 6-10, pitched a complete game to get the win. [GAME BOXSCORE]
May 6, ASBURY
The Yellow Jackets ended the home portion of their schedule by splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Asbury. Cedarville won the opener, 9-2, but lost the second game, 10-2. Matt Schroeder and Micah Hutchins led the offense in game one while Scott VanDerAa pitched a complete game for his fifth victory of the season. Schroeder was 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, three runs scored, and three RBI's. Hutchins was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBI's. May 3, at Point Park
Point Park cruised to 11-0 and 10-3 victories over the Jackets in American Mideast Conference action. The Pioneers checked Cedarville on two hits in the opener. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] PPC scored three times in their first at bat of game two and bolted to an 8-0 lead through five innings. Samuel Hutchins had two hits with an RBI for the Jackets while Ben Saturley added a triple with an RBI. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
May 2, WITTENBERG
Cedarville ended a 21-game losing streak with an 11-10 non-conference victory over Wittenberg. The Yellow Jackets rallied from a 6-2 deficit with nine unanswered runs which included a seven-run sixth inning. Bryan Mangin went 4-for-5 at the plate while Samuel Hutchins was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Ben Saturley picked up the win in relief and Scott VanDerAa recorded a save. Cedarville entered the season having not beaten the Tigers since 1989 but they swept both games from Witt. [GAME BOXSCORE]
April 29, at Rio Grande
Rio Grande rolled to 7-3 and 13-2 victories over the Yellow Jackets in American Mideast Conference action. Cedarville got on the board first in the opener with a three-run third inning. Rio quickly recovered with a run and then took command with three-run frames in the fourth and fifth hammering four homers in the two innings. Aaron Statler had two of Cedarville's four hits. April 28, GENEVA
Geneva took both games of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader from Cedarville by scores of 10-5 and 9-6 in eight innings. The Golden Tornadoes jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the opener. Micah Hutchins and Bryan Mangin had two hits each for the Yellow Jackets. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Cedarville let a 6-3 lead after three innings get away in the nightcap. Geneva tied the contest in the sixth inning and put it away with a three-run eighth. Chad Hofstetter banged out three hits while Mangin and Matt Schroeder added two each. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
April 27, SHAWNEE STATE
Shawnee State, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA, overpowered the Yellow Jackets, 10-0, in an American Mideast Conference game. It was a makeup from the second game of doubleheader that was rained out in Portsmouth on April 11. The Bears broke the game open with four unearned runs in the third inning. Cedarville mustered only two hits on singles from Aaron Statler and Micah Hutchins. [GAME BOXSCORE]
April 25, URBANA
Urbana clubbed five home runs and held on for an American Mideast Conference doubleheader sweep at Cedarville. The Blue Knights hit two homers and bolted to a 6-0 lead in the opener. The Jackets tied it with a six-run sixth inning but Urbana responded with three runs in their next at bat. Brothers Micah and Samuel Hutchins had three hits apiece for Cedarville. April 22, at Ohio Dominican
Ohio Dominican unloaded seven home runs and rolled to an American Mideast Conference doubleheader sweep of the Yellow Jackets by scores of 21-2 and 7-2. ODC blew open the first game with a 13-run second inning. The first 12 Panthers that went to the plate in the frame all scored. Bryan Mangin was 2-for-3 for Cedarville with a double and an RBI. April 20, MOUNT ST. JOSEPH
Mount St. Joseph blanked the Yellow Jackets, 3-0, in a non-conference game shortened to seven innings due to rain. The contest was initially delayed 90 minutes because of travel problems experienced by the Lions. Bryan Mangin went 2-for-3 at the plate for Cedarville. The remainder of the home team's five hits came on a double from Matt Schroeder and a pair of singles from brothers Samuel and Micah Hutchins. [GAME BOXSCORE]
April 18, at Tiffin
Tiffin nipped the Yellow Jackets by scores of 5-4 and 5-3 in an American Mideast Conference doubleheader. Five Cedarville errors in the opener led to four unearned runs for TU as Scott VanDerAa, 4-6, took the loss. Aaron Statler had an RBI double for the Jackets, who had five hits for the game. April 15, SAINT VINCENT
Saint Vincent took advantage of the Yellow Jackets defensive miscues to win both games of an American Mideast Conference doubleheader, 5-4 and 13-8. Cedarville led the opener 4-1 before committing three of their four errors in the game during the fourth inning which led to four unearned runs. Matt Schroeder had two hits and Aaron Statler drove in two runs. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] Five Yellow Jacket errors in game two led to six more unearned runs for the Bearcats. April 13, MOUNT VERNON NAZARENE
American Mideast Conference leader Mount Vernon Nazarene swept a twinbill from the Yellow Jackets, 9-1 and 10-4. In the opener, Cedarville managed only a leadoff infield single from Samuel Hutchins in the first inning. He later scored on an infield grounder from older brother Micah. MVNC led 9-1 after three innings, but they were checked on just one hit over the final four frames by relief pitchers Josh Logan and Trevor Creeden. Creeden and Aaron Statler had two hits each and Chad Hofstetter singled in two runs for the Yellow Jackets. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE]
April 11, at Shawnee State
Shawnee State, the defending American Mideast Conference tournament champion and currently ranked No. 22 in the NAIA, scored in every inning of an 11-7 victory over Cedarville. The second game of the AMC twinbill was rained out. The Yellow Jackets struck for five runs in the fourth inning to take a 7-4 lead. SSU answered with four runs in their half of the frame to regain the lead for good. Cedarville banged out 15 hits with Bryan Mangin going 3-for-3 with two runs batted in. Chad Hofstetter was 3-for-4, Nathan Verwys had two hits with three RBI's, and Matt Schroeder and Aaron Statler added two hits each. [GAME BOXSCORE]
April 6, THOMAS MORE
Thomas More took advantage of one big inning to record a 6-2 victory at Cedarville in non-conference action. The Saints broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in their fourth at bat and rode the work of five pitchers to the win. Rookie outfielder Matt Schroeder was 3-for-4 at the plate for the Yellow Jackets with a pair of doubles while Nathan Verwys added two hits. [GAME BOXSCORE]
April 1, at Walsh
American Mideast Conference leader Walsh swept a twinbill from Cedarville. The Cavs limited the visitors to just five hits for the day and won by scores of 5-1 and 11-1. Cedarville committed seven errors in the opener which led to four unearned runs. The Jackets avoided the shutout when Bryan Mangin hammered his fourth home run of the season in the seventh inning. March 30, CAPITAL
The Yellow Jackets hammered out a season-high 20 hits, yet still came up short in a 21-16 non-conference loss during a slugfest with Capital. The Crusaders scored eight times in the top of the first inning and never trailed. Cedarville made two comebacks and had runners in scoring position to take the lead both times. The Jackets cut the deficit to 10-9 after four innings and it was 13-12 through seven frames. However, Capital got seven unearned runs in the eighth to seal the outcome. John Bourdeaux, Dana Gerber, and Matt Schroeder had three hits each for Cedarville. Bryan Mangin had a pair of hits and three RBI's. [GAME BOXSCORE]
March 29, OBERLIN
Bryan Mangin pitched and hit Cedarville to an 8-6 baseball victory over Oberlin and a sweep of their non-conference doubleheader. The sophomore righthander pitched six innings of the nightcap allowing just one run on three hits. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBI's which included a two-run homer in the first inning. Micah Hutchins was 2-for 4 with two RBI's and three runs scored while younger brother, Samuel, added two hits. [GAME 2 BOXSCORE] Scott VanDerAa, also a sophomore righthander, improved his record to 4-2 with a four-hit complete-game 7-0 win in the opener. He struck out six and walked one. March 25, MALONE
Cedarville opened the American Mideast Conference season on by dropping a doubleheader to Malone, 8-2 and 7-1. The Yellow Jackets got on the board first when Bryan Mangin cracked a two-run homer in the first inning, but the hosts managed only four hits for the game. Cedarville played the first official games at their new baseball complex, but visiting Hiram swept the non-conference twinbill, 9-5 and 4-0. The Terriers had just four hits in the first game, but they took advantage of 10 walks, a hit batter, and three Yellow Jacket errors to grab the win. March 18, at Warner Southern
The Yellow Jackets ended their spring break trip by splitting a doubleheader at Warner Southern. Cedarville claimed the opener, 4-1, while the Royals rolled to a 14-2 win in the second game. Sophomore righthander Scott VanDerAa improved to 3-1 by hurling a three-hitter in the first game. Tim Sastic squeezed home the tying run in the fourth inning and delivered a run-scoring single in the sixth. March 16, Husson (at Lake Wales, FL)
Cedarville lost their fifth straight game with a 13-4 setback to Husson College of Maine. For the third time during their skid, the Yellow Jackets watched a lead dissolve with the opposition coming up with a big inning. Trailing 4-3, the Braves scored six times in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Husson had 13 hits with only one going for extra bases. Cedarville managed eight hits with Micah Hutchins doubling twice and Matt Schroeder going 2-for-4 with a double. [BOXSCORE]
March 15, at Webber
Webber outslugged Cedarville, 6-2 and 14-10, in non-conference action. The Warriors used big innings in both games to put away the Yellow Jackets. Cedarville scattered seven hits in the opener and trailed 3-2 before the hosts scored three times in the sixth inning to account for the final. [GAME 1 BOXSCORE] In the nightcap, the Jackets took a 5-2 lead but Webber erupted for eight runs in the third inning to take control. Micah Hutchins went 3-for-4 at the plate in the second game and scored three runs. His younger brother, Samuel, was 3-for-5 while Aaron Statler had a 2-for-4 effort. Cedarville opened their seven-game spring break swing by losing a doubleheader to Carroll WI, 4-3 and 10-5. The Yellow Jackets moved to 3-0 on the season with a 5-2 non-conference victory at Wittenberg. Cedarville broke a 2-2 tie in the ninth inning when Tim Sastic scored on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs later Sam Hutchins delivered a two-run single. Cedarville opened the season under first-year head coach Greg Hughes with a non-conference doubleheader sweep at Cumberland KY by scores of 13-7 and 11-4. Craig Sullivan, Aaron Statler, and Nathan Verwys had two hits each in the opener and combined for eight runs batted in. Chad Hofstetter was the winning pitcher in relief.
