The 2000 men's golf season is one that head coach Jim Kragel has been looking forward to. The Yellow Jackets return their top three players from last spring and welcome four newcomers who will add depth to the squad as they attempt to improve upon their showing from last spring.

"I really believe this is the strongest group of golfers we've had since I've been here, " remarked Kragel, who is in his sixth season at Cedarville. "We have made a commitment as a team to really try and be ready for the upcoming season. Although we are still a very young team (two juniors, two sophomores and three freshmen), we now have a group of golfers that on any given day can shoot a very good score for us. My hope is that we can be more consistent than last year."

Matt Dunn, a junior from West Chester, OH, will again be the team's number one player. He has a career 79.95 scoring average and last year led the squad at 78.7. He is the defending champion of the Cedarville Invitational upon carding a one-under par 71. Dunn became only the third Yellow Jacket golfer, and the first in 15 years, to win the event.

Another junior, Marion, IN native Russ Toms, is back for his third season in the program. He ranked third on last year's team with an 83.7 average after rating first at 81.1 as a freshman.

Mike Poelzer, a sophomore from Milwaukee, WI, made an immediate impression as a rookie by averaging 82.6 shots per round. His collegiate debut was a runner-up showing at the Urbana Invitational with a 77.

The list of newcomers includes Craig Bennington, Ben Borich, Tom Simon, and Pete Vischer. Kragel states it will simply be a matter of these players getting comfortable with the college tournament environment and learning to compete from the championship tees.

"It's really a great bunch of players, who are spiritually and academically sound," Kragel added. "I look forward to improving quite a bit on last year's record!"

Highlighting the schedule again is the 19th Annual Cedarville College Invitational at the Country Club of the North in Beavercreek. The season closes out with the American Mideast Conference Championships on May 4-5 at the Apple Valley Golf Club in Mount Vernon.
