May 4-5, American Mideast Conference Championship
Cedarville ended the season by placing sixth at the American Mideast Conference Championships at the Apple Valley Golf Club. The Yellow Jackets put together rounds of 327, 322, and 320 for a 969 total in the 54-hole event. Matt Dunn paced Cedarville with scores of 78-81-80 for a 239 total. Others scoring for the Jackets were Craig Bennington 84-79-79-242; Mike Poelzer 83-81-78-242; Russ Toms 82-93-83-258; and Tom Simon 86-81-83-250.
April 25, 19th ANNUAL CEDARVILLE INVITATIONAL
Mount Vernon Nazarene won the 19th Annual Cedarville College Invitational at the Country Club of the North. It's the fifth time in the past seven years that the Cougars have walked away as champions. Shawnee State's Jonathan Oliver took medalist honors with a 74 while defending champion Matt Dunn of Cedarville carded a 76 and won a tiebreaker with four other players to finish second. MVNC had a 309 total to defeat Shawnee State, 312; Urbana, 322; Cedarville, 325; and Tiffin, 345. April 21-22, Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed eighth out of nine schools at the 36-hole Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational at the Apple Valley Golf Club. Malone won the event with a 310-297-607 score while Cedarville's numbers were 326-326-652. Matt Dunn led the Jackets with rounds of 75 and 77 for a 152 total which tied for sixth overall. Other Cedarville scores were Russ Toms, 82-83-165; Mike Poelzer, 85-82-167; Tom Simon, 84-89-173; and Pete Vischer, 90-84-174.
April 17-18, Walsh Invitational
The Yellow Jackets placed seventh out of nine teams at the Walsh University Invitational. Malone College won the 36-hole event with a 608 total while Cedarville recorded a 675 with rounds of 340 and 335. Matt Dunn again led the Jackets by carding a 78 and 81 for a 159 total. Other scores for Cedarville were Craig Bennington, 87-87-174; Russ Toms, 90-85-175; Mike Poelzer, 85-90-175; and Tom Simon, 97-82-179.
April 13, SOUTHWEST OHIO CHALLENGE
Cedarville won the Southwest Ohio Challenge at the Reid Park North Golf Course. The Jackets totaled 326 strokes to outdistance Urbana (338) and Wilmington (365). Matt Dunn fired a 78 and took medalist honors by winning a playoff on the fourth extra hole. Craig Bennington had an 80 for the Jackets, Tom Simon carded an 83, and Mike Poelzer had an 85 in his first outing of the spring. [TOURNAMENT RESULTS]
April 10, at Tiffin Invitational
Cedarville tied for fifth place out of seven schools at the Tiffin Invitational at the Red Hawk Run Golf Course. The Jackets totaled 338 strokes which was well behind champion Ohio Wesleyan, who finished at 314. Matt Dunn carded an 80 for Cedarville. Other scores were Tom Simon (85), Russ Toms (86), Pete Vischer (87), and Craig Bennington (88).
April 6, at Urbana Invitational
The Yellow Jackets finished sixth at the Urbana Invitational at the Woodland Golf Club. Muskingum won the 11-team event with a 323 total and Cedarville was 16 shots back at 339. Matt Dunn battled the high winds for a 79 which was good enough to tie for third overall on the par-71 layout. Russ Toms had an 82, Craig Bennington carded an 87, and Tom Simon turned in a 91.
April 3, at Shawnee State Invitational
Cedarville placed fifth out of eight schools at the Shawnee State Invitational at the Elks Country Club in McDermott, Ohio. The host Bears won the event with a 308 total and were followed by Mount Vernon Nazarene, 310; Tiffin, 319; Pikeville, 321; Cedarville, 325; Urbana, 329; Wilmington, 337; and Wilberforce, 405. Freshman Craig Bennington paced the Yellow Jackets with a 77 and tied for seventh overall. Other scores for Cedarville were Matt Dunn with a 79; Russ Toms, 83; Pete Vischer, 86; and Tom Simon, 91.
March 30-31, at Muskingum Invitational
The Yellow Jacket golf team finished 11th out of 13 schools at the Muskingum Invitational at the Eagle Sticks Golf Club. Cedarville, who entered the final 18 holes of the two-day event in seventh place, had a team score of 317-338-655. Otterbein easily won the tournament at 575 and was followed by host Muskingum at 612. Matt Dunn continued his solid play with a 78 and finished in a tie for 14th place individually with a 153 total after carding a 75 in the opening round. Other scores for the Yellow Jackets were Craig Bennington 77-86-163, Pete Vischer 80-89-169, Tom Simon 85-86-171, and Russ Toms 87-88-175.
