There is a lot of optimism surrounding the Cedarville College men's track & field squad for the 2000 season. The Yellow Jackets return a solid nucleus of athletes which includes one NAIA All-American and four NCCAA All-Americans.
"We are really looking forward to the outdoor men's season," stated Paul Orchard, who is in his seventh year at the helm. "We appear to be strong in all of the running events even though our distance runners are young. In the field events we should be OK. We'll have athletes competing in multiple events so as long as we stay healthy it should be a good spring."
Headlining the list of returnees is junior Eddie Nehus, an NAIA and NCCAA All-American in the 800 meters. He will specialize in the event again along with competing in the 4 x 400 relay and the 1,500 meters. Nehus broke a 26-year-old school record in the 800 last year with a time of 1:49.86 at the NAIA Nationals. He won the NCCAA and American Mideast Conference 800 meters and was also part of the winning 4 x 400 squad at both meets.

The rest of the relay team returns in senior Nate Jenkins, junior Cliff Reynolds, and sophomore David Dingeman. Jenkins will compete in the 200 and 400 meters. Reynolds, an NAIA Indoor All-American this winter in the 600 meters, will focus on the 400 meter hurdles while Dingeman will add the high jump to his list of events which includes the 400 meter dash.
Senior thrower Shawn Graves heads up the field events in the hammer, discus, and shot put. An NAIA and NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete, he was an NAIA Indoor All-American in the 35-pound weight throw.
NCCAA All-America Scholar-Athlete Peter Bednarek returns for his senior season to build toward the decathlon. Juniors Ken Loescher and Steve Wakefield head up the distance runners while high jumper Andy Paugh adds strength in the field events.
