Reid, Short are CU Athletes of the Year
CEDARVILLE (6-17-2008) - Women's track & field performer Courtney Reid and men's basketball player Ryan Short have been named the 2007-08 Athletes of the Year at Cedarville University. The two were chosen in voting by the school's head coaches.
Reid, a senior from Dayton, Ohio, is one of the most prolific hurdlers in Cedarville track & field history. She is a multiple NAIA and NCCAA Indoor and Outdoor All-American.
Reid graduated with six indoor school records (55 meter hurdles, 60 meter hurdles, 200 meters, 4 x 200 meter relay, 4 x 400 meter relay and distance medley) and four outdoor marks (100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, 4 x 100 meter relay and 4 x 400 meter relay).
Reid was an NAIA Indoor All-American in the 60 meter hurdles and the 4 x 400 meter relay this year. She earned NAIA Outdoor All-America recognition in the 400 meter hurdles as well as the 4 x 400. She was a four-time champion at the NCCAA indoor meet this winter, won three events at the NCCAA Outdoor Championship, and won three events at the AMC Championship.
Short, a 6-2 senior from Springfield, Ohio, averaged a team-high 15.9 points and 3.6 assists per game this season for the 23-8 Yellow Jackets. The squad advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament Sweet 16.
Short is an NAIA Division II All-America honorable mention for 2007-08. He was named to the NCCAA All-America First Team and was the recipient of the NCCAA's Pete Maravich Award as the Player of the Year. He also hit the winning shot in the final seconds of the American Mideast Conference Tournament championship game.
Short is an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete and finishes his career as the school's 12th all-time leading scorer with 1,745 points. He was a member of the All-AMC South Division First Team and was given the league's annual Ron Holmes Award.
