Geist named Athletic Director
CEDARVILLE, Ohio (6-6-2008) - Dr. Alan Geist has been named the new Athletic Director at Cedarville University effective July 1. The announcement was made by Dr. Pamela Johnson, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Human Performance.
Geist takes over for Pete Reese, who guided the Yellow Jackets' athletics program since 1999. Reese retires following more than 40 years in athletic administration, but will remain on staff as Assistant Director of Outdoor Athletic/Recreation Facilities.
Geist, a 1983 graduate of Cedarville College, has been a faculty member in the University's sport management program since its inception and became full-time in 2005 as the program coordinator of the major. He was appointed to the position of Associate Athletic Director in 2006.
Geist will oversee 14 Yellow Jacket varsity sports. He will also retain his faculty status as an Assistant Professor of Sport Management.
Before returning to Cedarville, Dr. Geist served as a teacher and administrator at both the high school and college levels including a number of years in athletic administration at each level. He is a member of the North American Society for Sport Management (NASSM).
Geist earned a master's degree in sport management from the United States Sports Academy in 1989 and his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 2001. Alan and his wife, Lynn, have two sons, William and Ryan, and reside in Springfield.
