Johnson inducted into NCCAA Hall of Fame

CEDARVILLE, Ohio (6-12-2008) - Dr. Pamela Diehl Johnson, Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Human Performance and associate head women's tennis coach at Cedarville University, was inducted into the National Christian College Athletic Association Hall of Fame. The honor took place on May 30 during the association's annual convention in Greenville, S.C.

While Johnson is recognized as one of the foremost authorities in NAIA women's tennis, she was also at the forefront of the tennis movement within the NCCAA. She has been a member of the NAIA National Tournament Committee since 1985, has held the position of NAIA National Tournament Director since 1989, and has served as the NCCAA tennis chair.

Johnson completed a 30-year career in 2006 as head coach of the Lady Jackets before assuming the role as the program's Associate Head Coach. Her teams piled up 280 victories, won four NAIA Region IX championships, seven NAIA District 22 championships, eight conference titles. She took 12 teams to the NAIA National Tournament and coached 29 NAIA All-America Scholar-Athletes.

Johnson, who has been at the University since 1974, guides the departments of Exercise and Sport Science, Athletic Training, Education, Psychology; and Social Work, Criminal Justice, and Sociology. She also oversees the Yellow Jacket athletics program as well as Campus Recreation and Facilities. She completed her fourth year as one of four academic deans on campus and is the highest-ranking female at CU.

Johnson was honored for her longtime contributions to women's tennis by being inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in May, 2004. She was inducted into the Cedarville University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996.
