Zeltman, Gelser recognized for sports ministry
CEDARVILLE (6-17-2008) - Women's volleyball performer Sarah Zeltman and men's soccer player Josh Gelser are the recipients of the Don and Nedra Callan Sports Ministry Awards at Cedarville University for the 2007-08 academic year. The honor recognizes student-athletes for their evangelism in and through sports activities while at the institution.
The awards are given in the name of Don and Nedra Callan, who have been committed to worldwide sports evangelism for more than four decades. Dr. Callan is the former Dean of the School of Health and Human Performance and has served in various other capacities in athletics during his 48 years at the school.
Zeltman, a senior middle hitter from Kidron, Ohio, was part of a Lady Jacket volleyball squad that finished with a 24-15 record in 2007 and is CU's all-time leader in kills, blocks and service aces. She was part of two missions trips to the Dominican Republic and Costa Rica and is spending eleven weeks this summer in Costa Rica on a volleyball missions trip.
Gelser, a senior midfielder from Vestal, N.Y., is a four-year member of the Yellow Jacket men's soccer squad. He was an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, played in 69 career matches, and scored four goals with nine assists. He has worked with On Goal Soccer Ministries for two years and has taken a soccer missions trip to Mexico.
