Melissa Hartman is in her second season as the head volleyball coach at Cedarville University. She is the fifth head coach in the 44-year history of the Lady Jacket program.

Hartman's initial campaign at the volleyball helm was a memorable one. She guided the Lady Jackets to their second straight NCCAA national title after they had repeated as Midwest Region champions. She was tabbed the NCCAA Midwest Region Coach of the Year and later recognized as National Coach of the Year.

CU earned its third NAIA Region IX title in a row and returned to the NAIA National Tournament for the third straight time. The Jackets were rated as high as 11th nationally in the NAIA poll and finished with a 45-10 record for the school's third consecutive 40-win season.

While this is the first head coaching job for Hartman, she served as an assistant coach for the Lady Jackets in 2004 and 2005 under Teresa Clark. CU had a combined 89-16 record in that timespan, won back-to-back AMC South Division and NAIA Region IX titles, copped the 2005 NCCAA national championship banner, and made the school's first two trips to the NAIA National Tournament.

Hartman, a former three-sport standout for the Lady Jackets, is one of the most decorated female athletes that Cedarville University has ever had. She was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002 for her volleyball, basketball, and tennis accomplishments.

Hartman was a two-time all-conference volleyball selection and graduated as CU's all-time leader in matches played (184) and digs (2,429). She is the Jackets' seventh all-time leading scorer in basketball (1,678) and ranks third in steals (293). On the tennis court, she was the Mid-Ohio Conference singles champion as a senior, finished with a 41-12 career record, and received the prestigious Prince/ITA Graduate Scholarship.

Dr. Hartman is a 1996 graduate of Cedarville with a degree in biology and she earned her M.D. from the Indiana School of Medicine in 2000. Prior to returning to Cedarville, she spent two years at Parkview Hospital in her hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind. where she served with Professional Emergency Physicians. Dr. Hartman is single and resides in Cedarville.
