| Indiana Wesleyan wins NCCAA championship CEDARVILLE, Ohio (11-4-2000) -- Top seed Indiana Wesleyan dethroned defending champion Christian Heritage 15-6, 14-16, 15-13, 15-11 to win their first NCCAA title in 15 years. Tiah Romagnoli hammered 22 kills with five blocks to lead the Wildcats, 41-2 and ranked No. 13 in the NAIA. Lacey Ellis had 15 kills with five blocks, Sarah McCurdy added 13 kills, and Gina Proffitt had 62 assists. "This is our first national championship since 1985 and it was exciting to win over the 1999 champion," said IWU's Deane Webb, who was named NCCAA Coach of the Year. "We won by working hard and being a team that is better than the sum parts. We give God all the glory." NCCAA Player of the Year and Tournament MVP Heather Davis pounded 24 kills for Christian Heritage, 15-17, whose membership in the Golden State Athletic Conference includes five NAIA Top 25 teams. Emily Hethcock had 20 kills with 18 digs, Joy Leichtfuss tallied 16 kills, and Leah Mallinger set up 75 assists.
