Malone women, MANU men claim NCCAA banners Malone finished with 56 points to win their 10th NCCAA title. Runner-up Cedarville had 78 points and defending champion Indiana Wesleyan tallied 82 points to finish 3rd in the 20-team field. Malone’s Lacey Watkins repeated as individual champion by covering the 5,000 meters in 17:47. Pioneer head coach Jack Hazen was tabbed Women’s Coach of the Year. On the men’s side, MidAmerica Nazarene won its first NCCAA championship with 57 points. Defending champion Malone was 2nd with 70 points and Indiana Wesleyan was 3rd with 76 points. A total of 22 men’s team competed. Leo Kormanik of Malone was the individual champion with a time of 24:33 for the 8,000 meters. MANU’s Curt Ammons was named Men’s Coach of the Year. Baptist Bible College swept the Division II team titles. Sarah Prahl of Northland Baptist Bible won the women’s individual title in 19:53 while BBC’s Kyle Hardenbrook was the men’s champion in 27:13. Indiana Wesleyan's Katie Bloomquist was presented the coveted Bullock Award for women while Malone's Leo Kormanik was chosen as the Wheeler Award recipient for men. Both awards recognize the NCCAA's outstanding runners in athletics, academics, leadership, Christian character, and Christian service. Contact: |
