Olivet Nazarene, Malone capture NCCAA championship banners

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Olivet Nazarene University won the 25th Annual NCCAA Women's Cross Country Championship while Malone College ran to victory in the 33rd Annual NCCAA Men's Cross Country Championship hosted by Cedarville University.

Olivet Nazarene won its third women's banner, but it was the first for the Tigers since winning back-to-back titles in 1994 and 1995. Malone's Joanna Genter won the individual title with a course and meet record time of 17:43 for the 5,000 meters. It marked the third straight year that a Pioneers' runner came out a winner.

Malone's men returned to the winner's circle. It was the Pioneers' 16th banner overall and the third in the last four years. Roberts Wesleyan's Julius Rono ran to the individual title by covering the 8,000 meters in 24:52.

In Division II, North Central University won the women's crown and Northland Baptist Bible College was the men's winner. Individual champions were Danielle Seelhorst of Baptist Bible College and Kenneth Courts of Northland Baptist.

Cedarville University's Samantha Maat was presented the coveted Bullock Award for women and Spring Arbor University's Dan Lane was given the Wheeler Award for men. The awards recognize the NCCAA's Outstanding Runners in athletics, academics, leadership, Christian character, and Christian service

Olivet Nazarene's Mike McDowell was honored as the NCCAA National Coach of the Year while the men's National Coach of the Year award was prsented to Jack Hazen of Malone.

In the women's and men's combined team score category, Malone came out on top with 113 points. The rest of the top four included Cedarville, 167; Indiana Wesleyan, 231; and Olivet Nazarene, 236.
