The Germain Ford of Beavercreek Male Athlete of the Week (Feb. 18-24) is men's track & field hurdles/jumps specialist Matt Schaeckenbach. The freshman from Iowa City, Iowa won the high jump at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championships on Fri.-Sat., Feb. 23-24. Schaeckenbach cleared 6-10.25 (2.09 meters) to tie the fourth-best mark in program history and meet the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying standard. He was third in the heptathlon with 4,992 points - No. 3 all-time at CU and a provisional qualifying total. Schaeckenbach was named the Freshman Athlete of the Meet for his efforts as the Yellow Jackets placed fourth in the 11-team championship event.
