HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The NAIA Division II No. 2 Yellow Jackets overcame a sluggish start thanks to making 16 three-point baskets en route to a 69-53 American Mideast Conference victory at Houghton.
Cedarville, 26-3 overall and 11-1 AMC, came stumbling out of the blocks managing just one point in the first five minutes and falling behind 9-1. Brandon Sok and Grant Walker nailed back-to-back treys and the long-range assault was on.
Trailing 17-12, the Jackets hit four consecutive threes to take the lead for good which included a 39-26 margin by halftime. CU made 9-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first period and was 7-for-12 in the second. The visitors tallied just six two-point field goals in the game. Houghton, 9-16 and 4-8 AMC, could get no closer than 11 points in the final 20 minutes.
Matt Harner was 6-for-9 from deep for 18 points. Chris Beals buried four three-pointers for 12 points and Daniel Rose chipped in 11. [STATS]
