CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets placed their first seven runners among the top 15 finishers in the 21st Annual Friendship Invitational to claim the team championship for the second straight year.
Cedarville totaled 38 points to outrun the other five schools. Wright State had 49 points and Cumberlands (Ky.) recorded 65.
Joseph Cathey paced the Yellow Jacket contingent at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course. He finished 4th in 25:58 for the 8,000 meters.
Cedarville then had a pair of three-man clusters that completed the victory. The first group held down positions 6, 7 ,and 8 which included
Clay Watson (26:13),
Ryan Gustafson (26:25), and
Josiah Bragg (26:27), respectively.
The remaining pack featured
Joe Niemiec (13th; 27:00),
Matt Cheney (14th; 27:05), and
Jacob Walter (15th; 27:06).
It marked the sixth time in the meet's history that Cedarville won the team championship.
