Oklahoma Christian nips Lady Jackets at NCCAA

Box Score WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Raegan Ryan scored 23 points and Kayla Jenerette added 18, but #6 seed Oklahoma Christian used a second-half surge to edge #3 Cedarville, 78-74, in the first round of the NCCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship at Grace College.

The outcome places the Lady Jackets in Thursday's consolation bracket. They'll play host #7 Grace at 1:45 p.m. in a rematch of the Midwest Region final.

Ryan buried four three-pointers and scored 18 of her points in the first period. Cedarville shot 48 percent from the field and took a 40-30 lead into the halftime locker room.

The Jackets pushed the margin out to 13 points early in the second half before the Eagles used the free throw line to get back in it. OCU outscored Cedarville 20-2 from the line and 48-34 overall in the final 20 minutes.

Despite the discrepancy at the charity stripe, the Lady Jackets still remained on top until deep into the contest. Oklahoma Christian, 20-11 and winners of six straight, took its first lead with 6:40 left, but CU recovered for a 68-65 difference at the 5:55 mark.

The Eagles responded with seven straight points and never trailed again. However, the Jackets had three opportunities to either tie or take the lead in the final three minutes.

"I'm extremely proud of the effort my team put out today," proclaimed Head Coach Kirk Martin. "They (Oklahoma Christian) are a really good team.

"We are still growing and learning how to win these type of games. We're getting closer to pulling them out."

Ryan and Jenerette combined to go 9-for-12 outside the three-point arc for Cedarville, 18-10 overall. Ryan also dished out a team-high four assists. The Jackets won the rebounding battle, 33-30, with Lauryn Robinson grabbing eight.
