Cedarville guts out NCCAA win at Grace

Box Score

WINONA LAKE, Ind. - Raegan Ryan paced four Lady Jackets in double figures with 18 points to lead Cedarville to a 71-57 victory over host Grace in a consolation bracket game at the NCCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship.

CU, 19-10, plays Shorter (Ga.) on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in the fifth place contest.

In what was a rematch of the Midwest Region final, this was expected to be a much closer game than the Lady Jackets' 80-46 blowout on March 2. It was.

Despite the fact that Cedarville never trailed, it took some time to shake free of the Lancers. A 13-point first-half lead was trimmed to 33-28 by halftime.

The Lady Jackets never produced some breathing room until an eight-point spurt midway through the second period inflated the bulge to 57-41. The largest difference was 17.

"This game was more about the mental part than the physical," said Head Coach Kirk Martin. "I was very pleased with our guts and determination in order to win.

"Gordy (Deborah Gordon) had a great game for us and Raegan (Ryan) continues to lead as she's done recently. This was a satisfying win."

Ryan buried three three-pointers as part of her 18 points to go along with five assists. Gordon totaled 14 points, six rebounds, and two assists.

Kayla Jenerette and Kayla Linkous tossed in 12 points each. Deborah Chandler finished with eight points and five assists. Cedarville owned the boards, 43-26, and converted 16-of-18 free throws.

The season finale against Shorter is not viewed as "just another game."

"Tomorrow is important," Martin added. "A 20-win season is recognized as a quality season. We'll have our hands full with Shorter."
